How many snaps did zeke steal and what rb did he impede development?
Any snap Zeke took this year was a waste of time. Any other back on the team would have been much better use of those carries whether it be Luepke, Vaughan, or some unnamed RB we should have signed instead of Zeke. Zeke was the very definition of a progress stopper this year.

We could have drafted a young RB for cheap, and a position of great need, but Zeke took up a roster spot. If you can't see how a fresh from college RB would be immensely better than a washed up former star who set the NFL record for his career yards per season declining every season (no other NFL RB has ever had that dubious distinction), then there's nothing I can say to change your mind. If stats plus the eye test don't convince you, then I don't know what will.

It's 2025, Zeke has been on the decline since 2021 as a #1 back.

14 teams are going to the playoffs. I highly doubt any of them are scrambling to sign Zeke. Maybe a flier on the PS, as he can still pass block?

We are talking about a back that was cut after 2023, signed in August, 5 months after being cut from Dallas the first time.
5 months waiting for a team. And it was to a team that was going to suck again, in the Pats.

Now, after another subpar season, some think a playoff team will sign him for a run?
The playoff signing sounds like an excuse to me rather than admitting it was a bad re-signing cause Jerry had a favorite.

I've missed all the back n forth on this thread, but what Playoff team wants to sign Zeke? Is this an actual truth or delusion?

Has to be delusion. You'd like to think if anything it would just be for his pass protection but even that has fallen off. He got replaced by Luepke for that most of the time this year because he was better at it. Zeke and his fans are definitely delusional. Anyone that signs Zeke, it has to be for injury because most likely the guys they have are already better.

You're right, and Henry would have been a nice addition while we bring that young RB along. They were obvious choices that we failed to make.

Believe it or not that is the reason he asked to be released. No playoff team will be that desperate. And when Zeke isn't signed this off season, the message will be sent - your done.

I really want to say something yesterday the fact that this is still going on I don't understand why is this a thing why is this a story one game left in the season when a guy was probably not gonna be on this team next year anyway and this is a big deal somehow and I'm sure there's a lot of negative comments and jokes and making Ezekiel elliott's career some kind of joke maybe that downplay what he really has done here he's the third all time running back in Dallas cowboy history as it sits right now behind two of the best that we've ever seen play here and he deserves some respect so I just wanted to say that his career he has better numbers than Terrell Davis he has insane numbers everyone acts like he had one good rookie year and everything else was bad you guys don't realize his first four years in this league he was the best running back in the league with little debate....

So I wish Ezekiel Elliott a great retirement he should retire but the man had a great career let's not even try to have a debate about that had nothing to do with the offensive line 'cause if we go there we're gonna have to go there for Emmett Smith versus Barry Sanders argument and right now you see saquon Barkley doing it his offensive line has something to do with it he wasn't nearly as good with the New York Giants as he is with the Philadelphia Eagles who have one of the best offensive lines and they best at drawing up schemes that make it easier on their quarterback and running back so let's not go there I don't have any debates about where Ezekiel Elliott falls in the history of the NFL and the Dallas Cowboys because he deserves more respect in retirement than he's getting here I don't think you guys realize his numbers I mean the guy is close to 9000 yards rushing... And I will hear very soon Cosa means if you guys wanna have a debate I can go find that from 2016 to 2022 where he ranks among the best and it shows he had a better career he has more stats more touchdowns more scrimmage yards and more running yards and as good a average as Terrell Davis and we could go pick other guys out too but that meme is still laying out there it's all true and where he ranks among Dallas Cowboys and as of 2022 where he ranked in his own class in his own era he was still top three in just about every category in 2022 against other running backs and yeah he fell off a Cliff his career is over but give this man some more respect....

I'll say it again he's number three all time you know how hard that is when the Dallas Cowboys have such a rich history at running back in other positions when you start down playing our own players and I'm not getting involved in the other ones but when they set records and they climb the ladder that high historically against other Dallas Cowboys at their same positions you gotta give them some respect...

Sorry buddy. I don't think we had good enough blocking. Yes...even walter payton and barry sanders and emmitt needed holes. we didn't have many, a slight bit more in the last few weeks.

Both of our lines SUUUuuuUUUcked dude. Would it have made ANY difference? Sure maybe. Would it have been significant, and would we use him up fast trying to make something out of nothing? . No, and yes.

If your "eye test" can't see that, I don't know what to tell you , back at ya.

But then you are the expert with your own NFL team and silver trophy. Right?

Zeke ran into the backs of his own linemen constantly even if there were holes. He sucked, good riddance.

It's human nature. And you can;t fight that. ...it makes 'em feel better. You can almost smell their enthusiasm for his death nell.

These people mocking and ridiculing a guy that gave EVERYTHING to this team...and that is literally. I keep asking people that ;love making fun of him "playing center"...what other premier NFL running back would have been asked to do that? What other premier rb would say yes? barkley? Please.
NOBODY answers that question.

He played hurt when the team needed him. Would barkley? mccaffrey? I mean you got your evidence there. They will sit in a heart beat....I don't blame them it's good for their business.

Thank you for giving your career to this hapless, wasteful team, zeke. Hope you get signed, but if not...enjoy retirement! Party on!

Zekes decline was very obvious diring his last stint with the Cowboys, so to re-sign him was very curious (but this is Dallas), loved the guy his first 3 years but he couldn't maintain that level of play. Now the Cowboys can move on and Zeke can enjoy the next phase in his life.

This is one of many reasons why JJ is a terrible GM. He falls in love with certain players he drafts. The best GMs have zero sentimental attachments to a player. It can blind your ability to objectively judge talent.
As asinine as it was to overpay and then keep (and keep playing) Zeke for as long as we did the first time, bringing him back just took it to a whole other level. When Jerry signed him last Summer and stated that he still had a lot left and could still be a starter in this league does he think anyone and I mean ANYONE was dumb enough to believe that other than maybe Stephen who was happy to not give up any of his inheritance to sign an actual NFL RB? It was by far the single worst move (or non-move if you want to team it up with passing on every decent RB in free agency and the draft) in one of the most horrible off-seasons an NFL GM has had.

Did Jerry finally realize this and did the criticism he got for his utter incompetence this past offseason finally sunk in and culminate with not even waiting for the season to end to cut Zeke loose. Not likely, but one can dream..

so you have proof those 2 would have been more productive. Interesting.

A reasonable take. Kudos.
