Zeke represents everything wrong with the Cowboys. Lazy, complacent, spoiled and entitled. Derrick Henry was in the same draft class and he has the work ethic to still remain elite. Zeke even before the draft was known to be a guy with questionable work ethic and intangibles.

I was always a Zeke fan.
I always gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Unfortunately he's been below average the past 3 seasons and we never should have signed him.
With that being said, thanks Zeke for some great early seasons. Sure they over used you and shortened your career but I enjoyed watching you.
Best of luck in your future.

why? releasing him before the final game of his career

before a home game just seems low class to me

was there some reason they felt the need to do this?

edit: obviously if he requested the release then it's fine

Low class? This organization invested $100 million dollars in him and the ROI was nothing.

They owe him nothing.

Not to mention he's been habitually late to team meetings and they sat him out one game because of it.

Zeke was below low class his entire time in the NFL.

A statement from agent Rocky Arceneaux of @Alliance_Sports:

“I’d like to thank Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys for affording Zeke this unique opportunity in granting us our release. Even though nothing is imminent, Zeke is excited about the possibilities and is grateful. He’s got a lot of good football left in him and will remain a Dallas cowboy for life.”

Crap. He's got a lot of good football left in him.

And they gain nothing for releasing him

his salary is guaranteed

they can already bump someone up from the practice squad if they need another body

If there was a benefit, sure...I get it

but otherwise what was the point? just to make frustrated fans feel better? doubt this does that

edit: but the reason seems to be so he can pursue an opportunity with a playoff team...if so good luck to him but I don't think he'll be helpful

A playoff team will sign him for their SB run.

I do not blame him to get out of this screwed up team.
Yeah I wish they'd done it sooner. I said as soon as they decided to bring him off the bench that it was not a good fit. Some dudes can't function in a limited role. Zeke proved to be such a dude. I don't know what he has left but I guarantee you it's more than what the Cowboys got out of him this season. I think he will hang around a couple more years to see if he can get a shot at 10K yards. But I would love to see him on a playoff team that needs a power runner. Didn't the Lions lose their power runner (Montgomery?) Will he be back for the playoffs? If not, I would not be surprised to see them kick the tires on Zeke.

Showed up late for another meeting? That will teach him.

With the way Dak is crying these days over losing, I am sure this is a real tearjerker for Dak losing his best buddy forever from the team.

If it were not for that moronic 4-year, $60M/year contract, Dak would have joined hands with Zeke out the door.

He was never the same after forcing himself to play while injured in 2020 I believe. Coaches should have had the sense to sit him, but here we are.
Yeah that was dumb by all involved. What a waste of a tremendous talent. But the Cowboys seem to specialize in wasting tremendous talents.
