RELEASED The Cowboys have released Ezekiel Elliott

Y’all should honor me for bringing the truth about Zeke and Jaylon Smith waaay ahead of the game.

seems silly to do it now
It does seem odd, but I presume he either asked for his release or said the wrong thing to the wrong person.

I don't know what team would sign him at this point, but perhaps he lands on a contenders practice squad. Unfortunately he was worse than expected, and likely done in the NFL after this year.

Zeke represents everything wrong with the Cowboys. Lazy, complacent, spoiled and entitled. Derrick Henry was in the same draft class and he has the work ethic to still remain elite. Zeke even before the draft was known to be a guy with questionable work ethic and intangibles.
And so does signing him. I knew that moment that this season would suck, because Jerry was putting his personal desires ahead of what the coaches wanted.

Jerry inserted himself into things this past offseason more than he had the last several years, and we all see what happened.

is this their way of admitting they were wrong? Or are they going to spin it as letting a beloved Cowboy seek a playoff run elsewhere
Yep.....in full defense of Zeke.......remember Jerry must have suggested, pounded the desk, declared he was the boss, and signed off on this, or all of the aforementioned, from the beginning. Again, Zeke was not the problem, more a result of the problem. Thanks, Zeke, for the early good years. We will be finding a new Fall Guy for 2025.

It’s crazy to happen now. I thought he would retire a Cowboy. I know he wanted 2TDs to become 2nd on the Cowboys in rushing TDs….4TDs would make him pass Dorsett for total TDs. Look at the good news he’s #1 in 2pt conversions with 4, hahaha.

The reality is he sucked coming off the bench this year, fumbling and getting no yards. I don’t see any team picking him up for a playoff run unless they want a backup rb to come in and fumble at the 1 yard line. Is he really going to milk this another few years? Just retire. I also don’t see why he wouldn’t just wait 5 games until the season is over. I guess he just wants to go to a different team. At least now he has a chance to sign w a playoff team.

Surely Zeke is thrilled, easiest money he ever made...
I seriously doubt that. The season he had is going to make it very difficult for him to latch on with another team next year. He may have no choice but to retire.

Signing never made sense except that Jerry was feeling nostalgic.

Another sign the issues with this team starts at the top.

Elliott asked to be released and the Cowboys granted his wish. This guy was a drain on this team from day one and Jerry caved to him every time. Good Bye and good luck.
Remember first 2 years waiting to get suspended than getting suspended than holding out in Cabo I would of ran him into the ground and than traded his *** that next year.
We bring him back this year and he misses meetings comes late and than asks for his release with one game left.
Again, how the early career is so easily forgotten......only the sacred leave and remain beloved on this board.

it could be they save some $ by cutting him now??
or they need the roster spot for someone who can actually play and be useful against wash?
otherwise it makes no sense with 1 week to go lol.
Maybe he said wrong thing to jones boys and so they fired him?

Agree. Zeke is one of my favorite Cowboys but he was long past providing any upside to this team. Not his fault because I’m sure he was happy to be on a roster. He’s just another name on the list at this point of circumstances from the root issue
