The Cowboys retained rights to Ryan Williams?

In DC we got alot of VT games and he was always that spread/option back to beat the corner but had the agg jukes that would make you think he could be at least a Pro Bowl back for a few seasons. But in college days he would usually just hit those Isos and off T's w/so much speed that u would think it could relate.

He cannot return in 2015.

If Dallas reaches an injury settlement with Ryan Williams or releases the running back from Injured Reserve once he's healthy, he can return in 2015.

With an injury settlement, Williams can sign with a new club as soon as he can pass their physical (even if it's sooner than the expected recovery period for the injury). The Cowboys would have to wait an additional six weeks beyond the agreed upon injury settlement period before they would be allowed to re-sign Williams.

If a settlement can't be reached, the team can release Williams from Injured Reserve whenever he's deemed healthy enough to pass a physical (players can file injury grievances if they disagree). Once released, barring the filing of an injury grievance, the player is free to sign on with a new team. At this point, I don't know if the Cowboys would be able to re-sign Williams or if there would be any kind of waiting period like with an injury settlement.

I find it really odd that they didn't put him on the PUP.

Some in the media have speculated that Dallas is done with the running back.

Makes sense.

It looks like they have decided to turn the page.

Ok with the move because it shows the Cowboys are loyal to players who are loyal to them. He could hve left and joined a full time roster last season but he decided to stay on the Cowboys practice squad. Who does it hurt keeping him on the IR?

Has little to do with loyalty
If you waive a player injured and he clears waivers it's automatic
Jerry is loyal but this is just part of the procedures for the league
I suspect they will keep him on it till he is healthy then cut him
They don't like injury settlements because in many cases it's cheaper to just pay them on ir rather than negotiate something that can be somewhat unknown

When he is ready to play....the Cowboys will cut him from the IR w/ an injury settlement....making him a free agent. He can sign with anyone. I expect Williams to contribute this year...in some form. The Cowboys have invested too much time and effort to just let this slip away.

Or they are tired of dealing with a guy that just can't stay healthy.

He can't re-sign with the Cowboys for 6 weeks after they cut him plus the number of weeks equal to the injury settlement.

If they expected him to contribute this season, they would have put him on the PUP.

But we don't/hope we don't need him next season? Why not give him the injury settlement instead?

Because we likely can release him before the season starts. An injury settlement is for hurt guys who would miss a certain # of games. Why burn $ when you don't need to. He clearly can't stay healthy. We are done with him

Placing him on IR (gets paid for season at least I thought) is cheaper than an injury settlement; never heard of game to game being in calculation during off season, etc.? If true, cool with that.

No because he will be released from IR when his knee heels. I sincerely doubt we keep him on IR all year to stash him for 2016. An ift- injured guy who couldn't make it through minicamp? Why continue to waste time with him?

He still is a decent power back in Madden. So there's that.

AFAIK he is on IR for all of 2015. IDK how you release someone from IR unless it is designated which he is not.

You can release a player from IR if he is - or should be - healthy enough to play elsewhere.

Williams got scoped. That's usually 6-8 weeks at most. Once that time has passed we can release him if we don't want to retain his rights. I doubt we care to keep him enough to pay him all year for doing nothing.

Honestly, I doubt he wants to stay. If he's at all interested in having an NFL career, he wants to get somewhere else to have a crack

When you put a player on the IR for a major injury then they can not come back. If you put a player on IR for a non-major injury then they can be released when they are healthy. However, you must designate them immediately if they are not a major injury ie, one not lasting more than 42 days. Williams was not designated as a non-major injury AFAIK. So he is not coming back until the next calendar year.

I'm not talking designated for return. A player waived-injured that reverts to IR CAN be waived once his injury is gone. He cannot play here this year but CAN play elsewhere after his release.

It is sorta cute how you sound so authoritative when you are wrong

Don't attack me esp when you are confused about the rules. Either debate another member civilly or not at all.

I'm not anywhere close to talking about designated for return IR. That's a one player a year option and they are unable to bring that player up for 8 weeks after being designated. He was not designated for return nor was he designated as a non-major injury. He cannot be placed on the active roster this year. He has already been waived injured then reclaimed and put on the IR.

The rules are out there for anyone to peruse. I suggest you avail yourself of them. If I 'sound' authoritative to you it is because you are projecting it not because I am attempting to be so. However, my sources are authoritative as they come from the league and the player's unions.

Good lord. Just freaking Google "waived from injured reserve" - then come back and tell me you were confused

I've already posted earlier in the thread he was waived/injured or did you not know that? He was claimed back off waivers and immediately placed on injured reserve. If you can't understand the rules which I assume you have read then then I can't help.

Have a wonderful evening.

The rumor is that they are waiting for Ryan Williams to get fully healthy, then they will trade him and Ron Leary for Adrian Peterson.

That's why we are keeping his rights, we have big plans for that guy.

Wrong. He was waived injured. Players who are waived injured and not claimed automatically revert to IR. We did not claim him and put him on IR.

Perhaos you should avail yourself of the rules.
