It comes from 20 years of mediocrity. Fans get frustrated and need to vent.
Imagine if these forums existed in the time of Meredith, the Staubach-Morton experiment, Duane Thomas, Rentzel, Septien, Goodrich, Danny While and no player would have received the venom that Jackie Smith would have been given.
I am a fan and am only responsible for myself and don't have a problem with anyone being pissed at any player, coach, owner, etc. This is also a venting outlet cloaked in anonymity and people can do here what they can't do other places so it serves a very useful purpose.
I don't care what these guys do away from the game; they're there for my entertainment and there are some people that feel they should be targets for the amount of money they make. Pro athletes are just like any other celebrity and if they can't stand the heat, don't cook. It is part and parcel of being a pro football player and comes with the territory.
I would disagree with the universally loved part for Dez as I've never liked him as a person, not even close, but I do like him catching passes and scoring TDs for my team just as I will the next one that takes his place. And that's fine, I don't like Irvin either but I loved watching him play for the Cowboys. There hasn't been one season that we haven't had some drama going on with Dez and almost all of it was and is unnecessary. What is amusing is posters defending him time after time like they know him. Does anyone here really care about what he does except on the football field?
What's wrong with that? But at the same time, what's wrong with some not liking those players?I've noted this several times in this thread, I completely get it.
Gosh, I hope I'm not coming across as all sunshine and daisies I'm as much a grounded fan as one can be, I guess I just have some players I really like, despite the ineptitude of our front office.

I've heard from other fans on other forums that the bext place to troll and get something started are the Cowboys sites because there is an abundance of fans willing tom trash their own players.
And it's not this site or DC.com, it is intrinsic in too many Cowboys fans. They booed Meredith out of the game in the late 60's, this is nothing new. There is no entitled football fan like a Texas football fan because too many think they invented and own the game. And I am not calling out any Texas posters on this forum so back off on that but I've never seen any fan base more entitled than the Cowboys one. If we lose, it's the refs or some other excuse, can't be that we lost to a better team. Part of the reason that the Cowboys are the most polarized sports team in history are their fans behavior. Winning got that for the Celtics and Yankees and originally did for the Cowboys but what has sustained that is not winning, it is this football elitist attitude.
personally I just want to see this team win something again that means something I could care less who the hc is or the qb is or the rb is I just want to see them win its pretty simple really

This all comes back to winning. In 2014 there wasn't that much to complain about. We were all just shocked mostly, week in and week out. We never got a chance to enjoy the 12-4 streak, because we were wondering when it was going to all fall apart.
Had we won Last year I'm fully convinced Hardy would be on this team. The blow ups, etc wouldn't have likely not happened. But no, Romo and Dez got injured and our coaches couldn't coach. And then snowball got bigger and bigger.
All we ask here is a winning culture. We might not win the SB every year, but we deserve to be in the hunt every year, similar to GB and Seattle year after year. But we don't. We go 5 years, have a good season, and then suck for another 5. We hire 2nd and 3rd rate coaches, pay all of our stars real well, but kill the depth. We throw away 2nd round picks and now we have a son who wants to go cheap on FA's year after year.
We have the most fantastic facilities, and make more money then everyone. But we have a team that belongs in small market.
My rant is done.
Well said, Stay thirsty my friend !!!!!!!In the recent past, certain players/personnel have drawn a predominant amount of disdain from our fanbase -- Jerry Jones, Jason Garrett (especially the last two years), Nick Hayden, JJ Wilcox, Carr (depending on the day), even Greg Hardy.
Then, there were the fringe guys that towed the line of love and hate, depending on the particular fan -- guys like TWill, McFadden, Mo, Doug Free.
Now it's spilled over to fan favorites, guys that have done all they can to help the organization, and were at one point or another almost universally loved, two players specifically -- Tony Romo and Dez Bryant.
While Romo has always had his detractors for various reasons, most fans knew this guy was our backbone and always presented us a chance to win. The sole reason why we were even remotely relevant, and a cover up of a mediocre coaching staff and front office. At the same time, Dez was the guy that was the conduit for Tony and the endzone. Our guy we could count on to grab that ball in traffic and bring it down for 6.
Now, after a series of injuries to both players, the fandom is out and very vocal in their disapproval for our two Big Name, fan favorite players.
It's almost sad to see these two guys go down this path. Is this what happens as players age, as they go through various injuries. Is this a byproduct of a team that has toiled in mediocrity for over two decades, spilling out now into our assessment of our very best.
Perhaps it's because we have two new rooks, with sky-high potential on offense in Zeke and Dak, and they are simply pushing the older stars out the door.
Injuries happen, and, especially in the case of Dez, we should excercise patience, yet we aren't. With Tony, it's a bit more problematic, as his growing amount of injuries make it hard to defend him against his now growing amount of detractors (yet, I still try).
I get it, it's sports -- and perhaps that very simplistic statement answers my own question. Yet, I want to reflect with a post, how sad it is to see things going down the way they are. Especially since I'm new to a large fanbase that can hear my rant.

TOTALLY AWESOME!!!Never thirsty, Dave, always have a beer in hand! It's 5 o'clock somewhere
And other fans need to try putting at least an ounce of thought into their responses. Some fans need to stay out of their wives panty drawer. You say one bad thing about Romo and they get all in their feelings. He was good not great . Time to move on.
You must live your life on the straight and narrow my friend.Don't tell me how to live my life.
