Le'Veon Bell is also mentioned in that post. If we abandoned this second TE nonsense instead of repeating it, we might just have the best all around running back in the league on this roster instead of the Joseph Randle debacle.

It's not just about picking arguably the worst TE in the bunch, it's about passing on better players while doing it.

Sorry, but that OP was clearly about tight ends,,,

If I had my druthers they would have gone after DL or LB at the time.

Witten is the standard for consistency, he's one of the great tight ends of all time and deserves more respect than ya'll are giving him. The guy still catches everything that hits his hands. Is he slow? Yes, but he's the only guy we can go to consistently on 3rd and medium who will catch the freakin ball.

While coming up a yard short because he's incapable of breaking tackles. Wrap him up by the waist and the dude falls like a tree.

You're describing a player that should be more of a role player at this point. Witten is still a great blocker, he's not a great receiver any longer. In this league now, you need a big fast TE. IF our coaching staff would be willing to lessen Witten's playing time, I would not be opposed to drafting Hunter Henry in the second.

The two TE thing has been destined to fail ever since we decided copying the Patriot model with it.

Exactly. Escobar is a good receiving Tight End. He's never been used right since they drafted him. And other teams know he's not coming in to block when he plays. Then he gets setback some more with the injury. We all know Witten is slowing down and nearing the end of his career. So that's another position that this team needs to improve going into next year.

The Cowboys plan with Escobar was to use him in the slot but Beasley emerged foiling those plans. You can use a big receiver in the slot but most teams opt for the small, shifty, jitterbug type receivers because they can get open quickly. With Witten firmly established as the starting TE and with Beasley becoming a chain mover on third down it's limited Escobar's opportunities. The Cowboys have been trying ever since they drafted Bennett to have one-two punch at TE but haven't been able to make it work.

Odds were in our favor to hit it big on a TE with a 2nd rd pick. In hindsight this pick is more painful than ever...

1) Pick 21 Tyler Eifert
2) Pick 35 Zach Ertz
Cowboys picked T. Fredrick w/ pick 31. Great pick... But according to draft pundits... getting Fredrick at 47, where Cowboys drafted Escobar, would have been virtually guaranteed.
3) Pick 47 Gavin Escobar
Le'veon Bell went to Pitt with the pick next pick... just sayin'
4) Pick 55 Zach McDonald
5) Pick 63 Travis Kelce
6) Pick 85 Jordan Reed

they made the right move in taking fredrick, dont take the chance of him being gone.the rest of that particular draft.......meh

I think that is very accurate.
I also think it speaks to a complete lack of creativity on the part of the team.
It should be fairly easy to copy 2:00 and 3rd down stuff New Orleans did with Jimmy Graham.

And let's be honest, it wouldn't hurt to let Witten sit 10-15% of the offensive plays so that he stays fresher.

When Dez was injured not using Escobar on goal line stuff was just really poor personnel mgmt.

Everything said in a fan forum is practically pointless, it doesn't matter unless we are staging a "walkout" or boycott or something along those lines, this forum exists because fans need/want to vent

This isn't true. Mediot types read here as do team shills. Journalists I respect like Sturm use this place directly and openly.

However this conversation about hindsight following an injury is gratuitous nonsense. This thread is about people pretending they know more than the professionals who run the team. You see the who's who of that mindset posting in here. Swaim is even in the conversation. I really liked Bell when he came out. He was built like a dump truck and made for the NFL I remember saying but this rueing game is nothing but self aggrandizement.

It's obvious that this is the case because you guys aren't even talking about Escobar's play for the most part. I thought his strength in blocking was markedly improved and when Romo was in the game he was getting 3 targets which spells out to me how they had integrated him into the offense they wanted to execute but couldn't when Romo went down.

"Pointless hindsight" is fan for "my team made a huge mistake but I don't want to acknowledge it".

As if you are anything other than a fan like the rest of us.

"my team made a huge mistake but I don't want to acknowledge it" is narcissist for "I use confirmation bias liberally."

Jason Garrett to Gavin Escobar: "There ain't been one day, not one day, that I done right by you."

Keep telling yourself that but as I've said, Le'Veon Bell's name was there too.
