The Escobar Pick in 2013

The Ravens wanted Frederick with their pick in the 1st but we grabbed him 1 spot early.

"Pointless hindsight" is fan for "my team made a huge mistake but I don't want to acknowledge it".

Still carrying that resentment, lol,,, naysayers would sing a different tune if Witten ever went down for an extended amount of time. But hey, who needs depth?

I'll be honest with you. I wouldn't give a rat's rear end if Witten went down for any length of time. This is 2016 not 2006.

And they are idiots. With how the draft was going in the first round, Frederick wold have most likely been gone.

It wouldn't have mattered anyways. We simply don't do the two TE set well when it comes to receiving. Until one of the coaches realizes it's time to start limiting Witten's role in some way, our second string TEs should just be focusing on their blocking because they won't be getting many chances in the receiving game.

I respectively disagree on both accounts...

OG Larry Warford went in the 3rd and C Brian Schwenke was the 2nd center drafted with pick 107 in the 4th

A Zach Ertz, Travis Kelce, or Jordan Reed would have been an impact player on our 2014 and 2015 teams. Regardless of 12 personel...

Agree... Just pointing out the particular pain of this mis-step.

Dallas has drafted pretty well recently. They need to hit a home run in free agency and the draft this year.

That draft class is really deteriorating. Frederick is a beast, Escobar a bust, Williams is an inconsistent 2 or 3, Wilcox hasn't developed, Webb's in Tennessee, Randle was a crazy JAG and Holloman played a year before retiring with the same spine condition Irvin had.

I think anything more than a C grade is generous. I'd go lower.

You're not going to hit on a TE with Witten firmly established as the Cowboys starting TE. They're never going to get enough of an opportunity.

It's ridiculous to continue using premium draft picks on a position being manned by a future HOF player who isn't close to being done.

The funny thing is Travis Fredrick wasn't the guy they were targeting at 31 after trading down with San Fran. The guy they wanted was Cordarrelle Patterson but Minnesota jumped back in the 1st rd just ahead of Dallas and got him. The Cowboys kinda settled for Fredrick at 31 but they needed to upgrade from Phil Costa so I guess the pick made sense.

Odds were in our favor to hit it big on a TE with a 2nd rd pick. In hindsight this pick is more painful than ever...

1) Pick 21 Tyler Eifert
2) Pick 35 Zach Ertz
Cowboys picked T. Fredrick w/ pick 31. Great pick... But according to draft pundits... getting Fredrick at 47, where Cowboys drafted Escobar, would have been virtually guaranteed.
3) Pick 47 Gavin Escobar
Le'veon Bell went to Pitt with the pick next pick... just sayin'
4) Pick 55 Zach McDonald
5) Pick 63 Travis Kelce
6) Pick 85 Jordan Reed

I wonder how many fans are angry at their GMS for passing on Frederick? Seems like our FO was ahead of the curve there.

They've done well in the first round, but they really need to step it up outside of the first round, IMO.

The thing is, we need a TE now. Witten isn't even a good one anymore. He's okay. Solid but in decline. We need the next TE and I'm afraid Escobar took himself out of consideration when he trimmed off the butcher stache. Don't want him. Can't win with him. Can't do it.

Yup....Witten has got to go. Progress stopper. Can't tell you how often I breakdown tape and the play goes wrong because of a missed Witten or Free block. Been like that for years. A real head coach would have benched both along time ago.

Sucks for all those teams needing a QB when Romo was available for a measley 7th round pick.

Can't agree with you on Witten not being a good tight end anymore. He's still among the best when his buddy is throwing him the ball.
