I am going to play the Spagnola card:

If he is so good, why do the Ravens want to move him to right tackle?

Because he's resoundingly average.

Boy, you're really going out on a limb.

Free > Gaither?

Free has only started like 7 1/2 games so far and Gaither has started 28 plus another 5 postseason. Trying to downgrade Gaither who's just 24 years old into a bust is laughable.

Actually what's laughable is attempting say that he is calling Gaither a bust, which clearly he is not. He is simply stating reasons why he would rather not overspend for Gaither on this team, based on what Doug Free showed last year.

Miles Austin showed me all I needed to see in about 4 games in 2008, but that must mean we should've spent 2 draft picks on Brandon Marshall last off-season

You need to reread what I actually said.

I never made a overall comparison between Free and Gaither and I never called Gaither a bust. All I did was say what Raven's fans said.

Its nice you never actually try and respond to my numbered points. You apparently don't know anything about the guy other than his number of starts.

Michael Oher can play LT.

RT's are easier to find.

They migh really like Marshall Yanda at RT, so if they could get an extra 1st or 2nd that's a win win.

Baltimore is playing with house money since Gaither is expendable and selected in the supplemental draft.

Baltimore doesn't want to pay them both LT money, which the agent will ask for because Gaither was FORCED to play RT.

Baltimore may feel they are good at drafting tackles. So it isn't a concern for them.

There you go for all you Mickey Spags

Gaither is coming to Dallas. Deal with it.

An expendable player, yet you want him on this roster.

LoL.

This statement is baseless and stupid to even assume.

Oher was a rookie last year and outplayed Gaither COMBINED with the fact they dont want to pay both top dollar is the reason they are willing to let him go.

Hes been hurt every year, gets flagged a lot, doesn't keep himself well conditioned, has a history of character concerns and is inconsistent in pass protection.

What you fail to grasp is...They drafted OHER to REPLACE Gaither at LT. So essentially they felt that Gaither was not the future at LT and at best would be suited at RT and now they don't want to play a player LT money when they think he is best suited for RT.

So if you want to give up a 1st draft pick for a RT...I would say at worst we could draft another RT, we could keep Columbo at RT or we could just start free at RT.

But you are attempting to push the idea that the only reason they don't want Gaither at LT is a money issue when the simple fact is they drafted someone to replace him at LT.

For them. yes.

They are in a nice situation.

Oher at LT and they could plug in a guy at RT already on their roster like Yanda who they feel could do a good job.

Their line is still young. They get a top draft choice and don't have to deal with the headache of signing Gaither since he'll be asking for LT money.

Or.....not.

My examples made a pretty good case with why he could be expendable to them.

They still don't explain why they drafted Oher in the first round last year if Gaither is so great.

Your case only strengthens my case because if they thought he was the current or future at LT they would never drafted OHER to be the LT. So they don't think he is the future at LT, they don't want to pay him LT money...yet some on here want us to not only pay him LT money but give up draft pick (picks or pick and player) to get him.

If they thought he was the current or future at LT they would have never drafted Oher for the position. Let that sink in for everyone.

So why would we want to pay an unproven player top 10 LT money when we can possibly pay a rookie bottom 10 LT money when both are equally as unproven?

Especially why pay someone top 10 LT money who has an injury history, work ethic issues, and disciplinary issues in his past?

In addition, why would you want to overspend in a year when the free agent pool is decidedly weak? Why not wait until next year and see what kind of players come available, especially with Flozell Adams still playing at a pretty high level? Waiting a year also gives you an entire year of camp, preseason, and regular season ball to see how your rookies are developing in addition to giving Doug Free even MORE experience?

I was on the fence with Gaither until I downloaded some games and watched his play.

I would suggest, whether you want Gaither or not, that you actually watch some of his games before you weigh your opinion. It seems like we have a bunch of people voicing their opinion when they don't even know what Gaither has done and I would further suggest haven't seen any of the prospects in the draft that they suggest are better or worse.

I tried basing much of my opinion from message boards and articles but as with any player, there were glowing and condeming reports everywhere and since I wasn't a Baltimore fan, I didn't know who to trust. I read message board material where all the fans were happy to get a 1st and that Gaither wasn't all that, but then upon further review some of the very same posters were excited to have their bookend tackles forever earlier in the offseason. I think we've seen plenty of fans that are starting to overvalue draft picks and undervalue their players. Sensy and Choice anyone? I read articles from the Ravens beat writers talking about how Oher was just OK when filling in for Gaither when he was injured and that if they had to have one player back, either Reed or Gaither, they would want Gaither because the offensive line struggled without him, not just the RT either. Oher himself said Gaither outplayed him.

I liked what I saw from Gaither and think he would be a starter for years, however I do have my concerns. At this point, a 1st and his salary might be asking a bit much because he does have work ethic issues and any time a player has a neck injury I am leary. Ironically, part of the reason I started climbing down the fence on his side and downloading tape is because of the posters that were against bringing in Gaither for no better reason than "Why would the Ravens let him go if he is any good?" or "He had a season ending injury, they are dumping him because of his neck." Clearly these guys were against this move even though they didn't have any facts to base their opinions on.

I'm fine with or without Gaither and trust Jerry and co. in this decision because they have resources that I don't, I just hope that they are actually doing their homework rather than taking a hardline stance to not be active in free agency based upon trades that could be considered questionable today.

Can you be a bit more specific of what you're seeing? What plays has he given up, what do you see as his strengths, what do you see as his weaknesses, who is he up against, is he getting help?
