The Jared Gaither Thread **Merged**

Your case only strengthens my case because if they thought he was the current or future at LT they would never drafted OHER to be the LT. So they don't think he is the future at LT, they don't want to pay him LT money...yet some on here want us to not only pay him LT money but give up draft pick (picks or pick and player) to get him.

If they thought he was the current or future at LT they would have never drafted Oher for the position. Let that sink in for everyone.
It should be fairly obvious to anyone with synapses that fire.

So why would we want to pay an unproven player top 10 LT money when we can possibly pay a rookie bottom 10 LT money when both are equally as unproven?

Especially why pay someone top 10 LT money who has an injury history, work ethic issues, and disciplinary issues in his past?

In addition, why would you want to overspend in a year when the free agent pool is decidedly weak? Why not wait until next year and see what kind of players come available, especially with Flozell Adams still playing at a pretty high level? Waiting a year also gives you an entire year of camp, preseason, and regular season ball to see how your rookies are developing in addition to giving Doug Free even MORE experience?

My mom used to drive a ******** man who lived in our neighborhood to church on Sundays. Every week, he'd tell me about how he was saving money from his job bagging groceries to 'buy a lion.' He had it all planned out. He wasn't going to have it in a cage because he was going to train it, and he was going to feed is spoiled vegetables that he got at work. For about a month I argued with him that it was a bad idea because lions were dangerous and didn't eat vegetables and because I was pretty sure you'd need a license for one. He never agreed with me, but to the best of my knowledge, he never got the lion, either.

Slate's not going to get a lion, but I don't think you're ever going to convince him of that. You're better of telling him 'that's nice' and asking him what he's going to name it. My guess is that he's planning to call it 'Jared.'

You need to reread what I actually said.

I never made a overall comparison between Free and Gaither and I never called Gaither a bust. All I did was say what Raven's fans said.

Its nice you never actually try and respond to my numbered points. You apparently don't know anything about the guy other than his number of starts.

You DID make a comparison.

YOU said Gaither is disgustingly overhyped, while Free had an excellent season is infinitely quicker and faster. What conclusion am I supposed to come up with?

I concluded, that you don't think much of Gaither and like Free better.

Are you gonna deny that?

What was the word before I put before the word comparison?

And why would I deny what you say you think?

Dear lord its like talking to my sisters kids.

Fine I will point out directly why you were stupid. I said an 'overall comparison.' I never did.

Free's combine results for broad jump, vertical jump, 40 yard dash, shuttle, etc beat the pants off of Gaither with the exception of bench press. He is quicker and faster than Gaither by a lot.

I will also say that from what I have seen so far that Free will be the better player compared peak to peak. I think he has the physical tools to handle the very best of speed rushers.

I knew that!

That's why I wrote you DID (in capital letters) make "a" comparison. Then I pointed out the (1 comparison) you made. I concluded, that you liked Free at LT more than Gaither based on that. I tried to get you to confirm this by asking this question....

"Are you going to deny that?"

Instead of answering yes or no, you came up with your BS.

Judging by your post above...I was right in my conclusion.

Just like I thought.

I'm not even going to get into these combine results or what "you've seen" so far. You have your opinion on their "peak to peak" whatever that means and I have my opinion...that you're an idiot

-----------------

1. Gaither NEVER went to the combine.
2. Look at these numbers and links

Name 40 dash Broad Vert Bench
Free 5.22 9'3" 30" 22
Gaither 4.98-5.14 9'3" 31.5"

Not sure what info you're looking at? Not quite sure where Free "beats the pants off gaither"?

Fair enough. Then they are comparable. Free would have been the best at the 2007 combine if not for a poor showing on the bench press which Gaither only managed 19 at.

Its alos nice to see that Gaither was hurt for his proday too.

Watch the name calling and personal insults guys.

The arguing is ok, it is ok to get riled up about your opinions of the other guys opinions...but knock off the personal insults and name calling.

Next time will not be a freebie.

We need to teach you the difference between present tense and future tense. Really you shouldn't call me an idiot when you fail to even grasp what the word will signifies before a verb.

Gaither at this point is inconsistent in pass protection and gets called for a lot of penalties. Free already is less penalized and after 30 starts I believe will be more consistent in pass protection as he gets to know his blocking assignments and timings better.

No problem man.

I think Doug Free has a very good future ahead of him. Whether that be at RT or LT i'm not sure yet.

The whole Gaither thing i look at like this.
Can we get a player of his KNOWN ability(not potential) at #27. He is imo(and this is the thing, its how you rate the player) a top 10 OT in the league. If you can do that for #27, instead of taking a flier on Campbell,Brown, Ducasse etc then imo you make the deal and dont look back.
Yes he's going to command a hefty deal. But if you think, as i do, he's a top OT then you do it, knowing that you can free up Flo's contract and essentially its a wash.

Now if you dont rate the player then thats fair. I just hope people here aren't OVERVALUING the #27 pick. Yes its good to have but its a lot better having a recognised top quality LT.

Hes not a top 10 OT. He gets flagged too much allows too many sacks and is hurt all the time.

Sorry I am not giving $10 mil and a first rounder for a guy that is good for missing 3+ games every year. He was even hurt for his proday and missed time in college. As he gets older then this will get worse.

I also believe this is in part due to the fact he keeps himself poorly conditioned and strikes me as the type of player that will cash in and pull a Hamlin.

not sure about that, you have stats to back up the penalties and sacks beacsue 2 years ago he was tied 3rd in the league giving up only 1.5 sacks in 15 games started?

Idgit comparing me to a ******..cool.

Can't say I can complain after I made a personal attack last night.

I think its funny that because they are in front of a monitor they can be as rude or say whatever they want.

These people are probably little *****es in person.
