The lack of pressure is disturbing

They have put some 'resources' into the D-Line over the last 2 years. Unfortunately, unlike the O-Line, things largely haven't worked out so far.

- Signed Hardy
- Drafted Lawrence (2nd & 3rd)
- Drafted Gregory (2nd)
- Signed Thornton
- Drafted Collins (3rd)

I agree that they failed to really look at a solid vet DE this offseason. I was one that wouldn't have minded signing Mario Williams. The cost for guys like Olivier Vernon was simply ridiculous. The DT group should be improved. Mayowa missed significant time, so I'll wait to pass judgement there. Irving was doing alright prior to being injured. IIRC, it was reported that Lawrence was giving Smith some fits in TC. And while Hardy undoubtedly helped Lawrence...D-Law also showed well in the playoffs the previous season, playing with guys like Mincey & Selvie.

When healthy/not suspended...the DE's could at least be decent...LDE: Irving, J. Crawford, Tapper/Russell ... RDE: Lawrence, Mayowa, perhaps Gregory eventually (won't hold my breath at this point).

I was really pulling for them to sign Jabaal Sheard & also draft Danielle Hunter last year. A hypothetical D-Line with those two...DE's: Sheard, Hunter, Lawrence, Irving, J. Crawford ... DT's: T. Crawford, Thornton, T. McClain, Collins ... with Irving & J. Crawford also being able to play inside.

we need to watch the Commander footage from the first game last year as a defensive blueprint. Even though guarding Desean 1 on 1 is playing with fire

This ^^^^ Best defensice effort I have seen in years, then they went away from it????

But wait, Son said we were going to be surprised by the pass rush in a radio interview. What he didn't say was surprised good or bad. Some may be expecting some pass rush.

Nothing has changed from how we will have to maneuver this season from 2014. Our offense will have to put pressure on their offense by scoring points and put them in a higher risk offense to increase our chances of picks. That was the only difference between the defense form 2014 to 2015, the OC's knew they didn't have to score as often.

Can't really base anything off preseason on how Marinelli will address this but he knows with a rookie QB back there, his D cannot allow the other team to control the clock and slow the game down. We still have to stop the run first before we worry about the pass rush.

Watching Lee coming on the blitz and how quickly he can shoot the gaps I would hope to see a bit more of him on pass rushing. However someone along that DL is going to have to bring pressure because in my view Dallas can't rely on blitzing alone to produce pressure.

I think Marinelli being looked at as some kind of pass rushing guru is definitely being tested the last few years. Our pass rush just can't ever seem to get consistent pressure let alone finish.

Also, what happened with Irving. Being hyped as some kind of monster/physical freak all preseason and now he probably won't even start even with two guys suspended. Just disappointment after disappointment with this DL.

Irving is injured. Although I thought I read both he and Tapper were hopefully return to practice soon.

DE is a total wasteland right now when you factor in injuries (Tapper and Irving), looming suspensions (Lawrence and Gregory) and guys people swore would look good looking kind of blah (Russell and to a lesser extent Mayowa).

At some point, you have to think (and hope) something breaks right for us here at DE.

This has ne nore worried then Dak at QB to be honest. Been saying for 2 weeks we need to make a trade for a DE. But McClay will try to work his magic on the cheap as usual.

What magic does he have? I haven't seen a legit pass rush on this team in a very long time.

Also, can't say this is disturbing. That would set the premise I thought this pass rush would be good and now it is not. Most knew the pass rush on this team would be one of the worst in the league. Even when healthy, we don't have a guy out there who scares the opponent and can wreck havoc.

I was referring to the Mincy, Selvie, Irving magic. All players off the crap heap that might get sacks, but not many! ;)

The time for hoping someone steps up is over. The hand with the crap is about to fill up. No one is going to make a huge stride between now and week 1.

There is nothing that fans can do BUT hope, dude. So I'll stick with hoping the defense will get it and step up when it matters.

And then it would need to be a DE IMO...

Personally I think the DT group in Dallas has the potential of being pretty good.

And after Ware and Miller does Denver have a DE worth giving up Leary for?

Shane Ray. But he's Ware's heir apparent at OLB. Denver's edge rushers are OLBs because they play Wade 3-4. DE's rush also but are considered interior pass rushers. Cowboys want to target OLBs on 3-4 teams and DE's on 4-3 teams.

On paper this looks like a 3 win team.

Aren't we mister optimist? They look far better than a 3 win team. It's funny how people judge an entire team based on a couple of preseason games where the starters don't stay in and don't use their actual scheme.

Pass rush was horrid against Seattle..

If I have to watch another year of soft coverage with no pass rush then I'm done with Marinelli.

Confuse and pressure the quarterback! Stop making things easy!
What game did you watch. We had guys in the backfield just couldn't tackle their QBS. Not saying our pass rush is great but 2nd and 3rd stringers against 1st team OL didn't do"horrid".

The problem is we haven't fielded our staying DL.....what should be our starting DL.....yet. with suspensions and injuries we have had a make shift line. I think by getting a stud rush end opposite Dlaw and with our upgraded interior we will be ok
