He said it is the best ever. He did not say it potentially or could be the best ever. As of right now it does not even rank because Lance is unproven.
It's an opinion, which may or may not be correct. I'm sure there were plenty of people who said it was a great idea to buy stock in Apple when it first came out. It was unproven at that point, but eventually they were proven correct.

I'm not saying Lance is going to be great, but maybe he will be.

Best Jerry trade of all time?

This isn't even close to the most recent one. Swapping the 10th pick in the 2021 draft for the 12th and getting some guy named Micah Parsons worked out fairly well, whaddya think?

Not at all. This is an extremely low risk, high reward trade.
He is not playing the next 2 years unless an injury happens. After that he is a free agent who can go anywhere else. It is potentially an upgrade to the backup QB position but the backup QB does not really get snaps unless an injury happens so the upside is very minimal.

Isn't Kyle Shanahan supposed to be a QB guru? If he couldn't get anything out of Lance, what makes you think McCarthy can?
He is a QB guru, but let's not pretend he's perfect. He's had his share of misses over the years. All coaches do. Maybe Lance will fit what the Cowboys will ask him to do better.

Of course it is an opinion, which I do not agree with. It was a hyperbolic statement. Lance is unproven and so is this trade. To claim, "Best Jerry trade of all time.", is obviously trolling the forum.

What I like about this trade is that we're finally going after QBs, whether it's via trade or the draft. And this guy doesn't seem to be third stringer material. He could become a starter. I'm not saying he's fighting for that other dudes roster spot yet, but it'll be interesting to see how he develops.

Should have done that ever since the embarrassing 21 season play off loss. Well, I guess it's never too late.

Other than that I agree with the post above. This thread is stupid as it's way to early to even rate this trade.

So that’s the downside. The downside.

Here is reality. Check out my last comment (film analysis of Lance's preseason video of 2023 before Cowboys picked him up). Horrible decision to trade for a QB who has so many flaws. No wonder the 49ers gave up on him in such a short amount of time.

Usually, you'd say it's way too soon to give up on a #3 overall pick. He's had injury issues getting in the way of his learning, and he's young. By all accounts, he's a good kid and has a lot of potential. I have no problem at all with this decision. Even if it doesn't work out, there's no way to know what they would've done with next year's 4th round pick, and I doubt it would've had more possible upside than this.

Give the kid and the coaches a chance before you write him off. After all, he's a Cowboy now.

Potential means you haven't done a thing.

The 49ers never had the patience he was always injured. He had an amazing passer rating in college. I mean they gave three first round picks to get them they must’ve had a reason.
They dumped him for a 4th rounder, they must’ve had a reason.

Relax, same guy couldn’t beat out a bust journeyman and an undrafted fa. He is simply a developmental 3rd qb who has upside due to his age and draft status

I don't care if he's a Cowboy now. The Cowboys picked up a very good team's problems, and now we see why the 49ers were so willing to get rid of him after barely 2 seasons and giving up on him after spending three 1st round picks to move up in the draft to get him. The video is very revealing as to what ails him, especially with that sidearm, elbow hitched throwing motion. That kid needs lots of work and time dedicated to see if he can get fixed. If anything, this trade for him forces the team to occupy a spot on the 53 man roster to keep him. I can see why the Buffalo Bills were interested but refused to offer no future 4th round pick or better for him.
