Sure you did.

My rankings arent great. Im a Ray Rice homer and I was sleeping on Felix.

To be fair I thought CJ would be there at 28-30 and would have gone w/ Jenkins/CJ/D-Jax or Jenkins/Devin Thomas/Ray Rice in a small trade down

oh ok...the Bengals.......in that case, I am glad we kept Marty B. The Bengals are basically playoff bound. I dont want to trade a very good, very young up and comer for a pick that may never pan out or may become Bobby Carpenter Part 2

By the way, if there is a TE traded this off season, I expect it to be Chris Cooley. The Commanders have to be thrilled with Fred Davis.

They should keep both and run a lot of 2 TE sets....Cooley and Davis would give matchup nightmares....

Everytime this topic comes up, I ask if anyone has definitive proof of what was offered. No one is able to provide any facts. Lots of unsubstantiated rumors but nothing concrete. I for one wish this issue would just die.

We should have traded Miles Austin and Tony Romo when we had the chance, too.

I have no proof, but a friend of mine is an attorney for the firm that represents the Bengals. A few years back he informed me of the Corey Dillon trade a good 6 weeks before it happened. He told me it was Henry and a 4th for Bennett. Not a first. If you don't believe me, fine. No big deal. I'm just putting this out there because that's what I was told from a reliable source.

this trade that never happened really pisses me off.

It's just one more in the massive resume of our wanna-be GM

A good GM trades players with a year or so left for high picks -- e.g. what the Pats did this year with Seymour.

A bad GM trades players with serious upside.

Bennett has serious upside. It is rare to pick a 2nd rounder who is now worth a first. You want to hold on to those guys because they are going to help your team.

So many of you hate Bennett for reasons that have nothing to do with his on-the-field performances (e.g,. his dumb rap). Seriously, it is embarrassing.

There is also the matter of the dropped passes.

My support for the Bennett trade is more because of the limited role of the 2nd TE in our 2 TE offense. If we were actually going to use the second TE alot in the passing game it would make sense to have one like Bennett. If all you want is a guy who can block and catch some dump-off passes, Phillips is good enough for that.

The Marty B trade that never happened

We need to shop him in the offseason in light of the performance of Phillips. We won't get as much for him as we would have from the Bengals, but we can use the draft pick(s).

clearly that isn't how the team sees it -- no way you spend a 2nd round pick on a TE if that is how you see it. clearly, we want a guy who can be our #1 if Witten goes down ... and Phillips is not good enough for that.

Maybe we want one in principle, but in practice we have not used the second TE in the downfield passing attack the last 4 years despite having spent two second rounders on the position.

I view this as an indictment on Garrett more than on Bennett. But if we are going to keep using Garrett as HC/OC, it doesn't look like the second TE will see many balls.

Some posters on this board have said they have hated Bennett since high school. *******es. Bennett is a very good blocker. So what if he dropped two passes? You guys are idiots with an agenda who don't like Bennett. And someone said the word "dropped passes". Roy Williams is our designated "pass dropper". Nothing Bennett has done warrants a negative word anymore than most other players on the team. Your biased hatred is disgusting.

I love how NE dumping Seymour is genius.

Im sure they will get a nice draft pick in 2 years. Meanwhile, theyre struggling to win a bad division and could use him.

When are people going to let go of the supposed NE dynasty?

If we would have taken Chris Johnson over Mendenhall and Felix, people would have **** their pants, myself included. So acting like there was any way we were going to take him is like rueing not getting Tom Brady in the 6th.

I was all over Chris Johnson. I also was pissed when we passed on Mendenhall. I was wrong about the latter. Felix isn't the player Johnson is but he's a pretty good back. And he's still not used the way we need him.

I have nothing personal against Bennett...I just think Phillips is a better TE. :)
