It's time to start looking at who to draft at the 14th spot.

I think the #1 priority is an athletic SG who can drive to the basket but who also has a decent mid-range game. Oh, and he also needs to learn how to pass.

We failed earlier with Maurice Ager. I think it's time to try again. I don't know much about college basketball. Any ideas?

I'm by no means an expert on NCAA hoops, so take the following with a grain of salt.

The SG most frequently listed about where we would draft (assuming worst-case-scenario and the 14th pick) is Arizona's Chase Budinger, who does nothing for me. Eric Gordon from Indiana is set to go in the top ten but his stock is falling and it happens to someone every year. Chris Douglas-Roberts is currently predicted to go later in the first round. He plays for Memphis so Yeager should have an opinion on him.

D.J. Augustin or Darren Collison may drop to us, but they're a little small (5'11" and 6'1") for the NBA and very few point guards that size have really made it as stars. They could be very good role players / backup PGs. But they could also get picked early as their teams (UT, UCLA) go further in the tournament.

CDR is a very good player but still way to skinny for the NBA. He reminds me of Richard Hamilton. I just wish he was as active as Rip.

I think Dallas would play SA tough, but the Mavs have oddly been a very bad road team this year (after averaging 30 road wins a year the past three seasons) and that series would be on SA's homecourt.

Yeah, I'm hoping for someone in the 6'5 - 6'7 range who is athletic. I mean it's been so long since we've had a real athletic player who can go get lobs and dunk the ball hard. Josh Howard is the closest thing we have now but he's becoming complacent.

Man, I wish Marquis Daniels didn't turn out to be such a headcase. I would love to still have him on the team if he didn't have attitude problems.

True. I remember when he and Josh Howard were just starting out - Marquis looked like he was going to be a steal.

does anyone know why the mavs are the seventh seed right now? denver leads the season series with dallas and with golden state, so why are they the eighth seed and not the seventh? is there a different set of rules for a three way tie? is the first tie breaker conference schedule?

Mavs arent the 7th seed and ties are done by conference record.

might there be something that we are missing here? the only thing i can think of is that the first tie-breaker in a three way tie is conference record, which would put the mavs ahead of the nuggs and warriors

Games played between the teams with identical records are seeded also according to regular season games played against each other as well.

Spot on. They upgraded Dirk yesterday to "day-to-day" but doesn't look like he'll play tonight.

There's a good chance he will join them on their upcoming road trip, though, which is good news. He would probably play tonight if it weren't for the run-and-guns Warriors team. He would just be hobbling around out there.

And yeah, Stack definitely appears to be out for another week.

One positive with Dirk out - Josh Howard is upgrading his value in a potential off-season trade while he's averaging 30 ppg and 9 boards. Not that I want to get rid of him, but if the Mavs fail to make the playoffs, or get bumped in the first round - changes will be made, and he is one of the few tradeable pieces of this team who would have real value to another team in a trade.

Want to take on Damp's salary? Or Jason Terry's? And Stackhouse alone isn't going to get a lot back.
