Meh but hope I'm wrong

For the old timers does Larry Bethea come to mind? Same pick #28, 1st round.

Think about this in the future:
  • RDE - Taco @ 6'6", 270
  • LDE - Irving @ 6'7", 280
Like the good old days of BIG, play-making DE's that are true 3-Down players.

Yeah, I think they'll bulk TC up right away. I think he should play at about 275-280 or so. He needs to build his core and legs. Upper body is nice already.

300:1 Taco never gets to 84 sacks.

This was a need pick. In a normal draft Charlton would be a third rounder. There weren't much to pick from at defensive end...but we needed one.

i remember when we could've had Frederick in the 3rd round

i'm better with it than most, think we could've done better by trading down but there were no viable partners i guess

it is what it is, welcome to big D Taco
If we trade down, we might not get any decent rushers--they made the wise choice, Now they will draft a TE, a player with a major injury, a pot head, and several small school projects.

I was way wrong about Frederick. Very possibly I'll be wrong about Taco. I don't dislike the pick...it was imperative that we add to the options at defensive end.

I wish there was more explosion and flat-line speed in Charlton's game. I wish there was better 40-time speed. Part of me thinks Watt might have been a better selection because he has some of his brothers game...certainly has explosion and pure speed. I suspect though that the Cowboys didn't feel he was big enough and wasn't well suited for 4-3.

There were just very limited options in this draft, especially slotted at our 28th pick. Overall I generally like our draft.

One of the knocks I keep seeing on Watt here at CBZ is that he "isn't big enough" to play DE. He is one inch shorter than Gregory and by the time the season starts will probably weigh the same (250 or so).

How is that not big enough?

There are reasons to like TJ Watt over Carlton: He's more mobile, and explosive. He's less experienced at DE, having converted from TE. He's got an older brother who's one of the b best DL in the NFL, and will almost certainly help him with techniques, scouting, veteran tricks, etc.

There are also downsides with Watt: He's had multiple surgeries. He's smaller. Many of his sacks came against Tight ends or air.

There are also reasons to like Carlton over Watt: He's bigger, got much longer arms, has more developed techniques, such as posting tackles off him with his length. According to PFF, Carlton is the number one Edge rusher in the draft at getting QB pressure (sacks, hits, pressures) in 2.5 seconds or less.

IMO, Carlton has lots of upside, and I don't think it's any kind of forgone conclusion that he can't rush from RDE. While it will be harder to speed rush, most of them can't anchor as well as the RT, and are more susceptible to a bull rush.

I don't know how good Carlton's gonna turn out to be, but there's plenty of reason to be optimistic.

The only downside is everytime he makes a play and has his name called, I am going to get hungry.

Just think about it this way,,, every Tuesday night in my house for the past 30 yrs has been.... Taco Tuesday...
Now I have a valid reason to have Taco Sunday, sometimes a Taco Monday, and every once in a while, even a Taco Thursday.
Might even start buying Cheetos when I go shopping.
