The need for speed at WR. We'd be stupid not to draft one

I am very confident in Miles Austin and in one of the polls someone made i voted that he is up and coming and will be our future #2. The only problem with Miles as we all know is staying on the field, and other then him, who do we have that can stretch the field? I think its potent that we draft a WR with some speed and good hands in the later rounds, maybe the 5th? I sure would be upset if Miles went down and we had to watch Romo never throw deeper then 20 yards.

I stand by my previous statement that we'll draft a hybrid returner/WR in the mold of a Dante Hall to handle return duties and take some pressure off of Felix to handle the ball 12,000 times per game. (later rounds)

I personally like Johnny Knox out of Abiline Christian. He has 4.3 speed and experience returning punts, which is what we really need. Maybe our second fourth round pick lands him?

I've seen some talk of him and watched a few videos. That would be a nice pickup in the later rounds. Dude runs some very nice routes and is very quick.

No thanks. How about someone that actually has a chance to make it as a slot receiver to go along with his return abilities. Skyler was a tease at best (on the NFL level) IMO.

i absolutely agree, this is especially important for us who want to contend this year and really only have RW and crayton with any significant NFL experience. but we have other needs and i would not like a high pick to be spent on WR.

my thinking is to sign Torry Holt (great insurance in case RW or Austin gets injured) and he can be the 2/3 WR in our offense at the same time giving us speed at WR.

then still draft a PR/WR hybrid in rounds 5-7 and let him fight it out with hurd/stanback for the last 2 slots at WR/special teams.

Williams was sick during the combine, he's faster than that and proved it at his pro day. Not that I want to draft him in the second. Jimmy's philosphy had more to do with defensive speed. Emmitt and Michael were two of the slowest players at their respective positions.

Completely agree with the original post and the follow-ups. WR/Punt (and even kick return if Jones is too busy or dinged) speed is probably the number ONE need on offensive side of the ball.

We need to add more speed, or at least to me, that short distance quickness. The good thing is the player doesn't have to be huge or an every down guy either. We have enough pieces and talent so that a role player would fit in just fine. So, we should be able to find one in the mid rounds 3-5 and even gamble on a late round redshirt or development guy also.

Otherwise, offensively we need to develop some more oline after all the misses, but quickness and short to mid-range yardage guy that can get a bit of separation would be a huge boost to Romo, RW, and Austin who are better in the longer game so far as I've seen. Romo needs a security receiver outside of Witten who can get open QUICKLY. Last year, way too many plays took too long to develop. If F Jones is the only quick threat out there, he will be keyed on, so another occasional option might really help the overall dynamic.

Welker, Hall, the trouble maker in Phili drafted last year (Jackson), those type of guys. Like Kevin Williams was for us years ago, but maybe a tad quicker in the slot!

we had kelvin martin, he had speed and quickness to return punts for tds

we drafted jimmy smith, who we cut & landed in jacksonville

we drafted kevin williams a speedy small wr for punts and kickoffs

I just can't see us drafting a WR with our #2, seeing that our 1 and 3 already went to one. Thats a big chunk of a draft to go to one position.

That said, it makes sense to go after one in the later rounds.
