There are highlights of everything - I watched every game the guy played in at Notre Dame. Smith's value is not in being a pass rusher - it's as a run and chase guy who is great in space at running down plays and covering RBs well.
ND's defensive coaching has not been all that the last four or five years. So it is very possible they were not using him as he could best be used.

Based on having seen him play extensively in college.

For one, I am not suggesting he should be a DE or anything like that. All I am saying if used as a blitzer in a scheme that was uber aggressive at attacking the QB with LBs, or a 3-4 OLB, I believe he'd be very effective. We probably won't use him like that since we don't use our LBs like that but let's say that during the year our defense is still struggling to get to the QB and Marinelli decides to bring more heat with his LBs............. I think Smith, if healthy, could be excellent at getting after the QB.

Did you see him playing 3-4 OLB like Von Miller in college?

If you are talking about him blitzing from time to time, I won't argue that. But that's very different than lining up as a 3-4 OLB. How many 6'3" 228 pounders play with their hand in the dirt? And why would we want him to take that beating? Especially when he's at his best in space?

Brandon George reported it in early January.

Albert Breer reported it in early March.

Stephen Jones confirmed it a couple weeks after that.

I think they said the nerve was firing - not sure they actually got into movement of the foot.

Nerve in Jaylon Smith's knee regenerating; Cowboys LB slowly gaining muscle control, @RapSheet reports http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...n-pick-toes-up-lift-foot?campaign=Twitter_atn

Didn't Breer report this 2 months ago and CrapSheet said there had been no progress? Rap is a hack. Glad to hear this for Jaylon. He really is one of the nicest most sincere people you will ever meet.

Bob Diaco won the Broyles Award in 2012 as ND's defensive coordinator. While he may be a loon when he gives a press conference, he's a good defensive coach.

VanGorder was an absolute disaster.

Don't flatter yourself. I have no dog in the fight, just amused at the back and forth.

Of course I wouldn't. You're here to make sure of that, big man.

Here is something that confirms what I have been saying for months and here you are waving your hands at a mistake I owned up to made weeks ago.

And here is the thing, Booze: no one admits to be being petty like that. People can still see it. That hate is strong in you.

Actual toe movement, Fuzzy? I know sensations were reported, but the dorsiflexion of the toes is what I was referring to.

In any event, this is a great day, and further cements what most of us have hoped for :)

I simply pointed out that both sides are equally bad. That's not really optimisitc.
You seem to think that there were not those here that would rather Jaylon not recover then they be shown to be wrong. THAT is what I meant saying optimistic about humanity. I have no doubt there are several posters here who had nightmares about Tony taking us to the SB and winning the MVP award. They truly would rather the boys lose then Romo get credit. And if there are those like that then it stands to reason there are those like I described as regards Jaylon.

He's over 240 lbs now. Weight won't be a problem for him.

Jerry just talked about this at length at the pre-draft PC. As did Garrett.

I guess it's possible they are lying, but I tend to think they are not.
I am at work and can only check my phone every now and then.

VanGorder was an absolute disaster.

Well for one, Smith only played one year under Diaco. And Diaco played a very passive 3-4 defense that didn't blitz a lot, played a lot of deep zone coverage, etc. So even if Smith had played more years under him, it's unlikely they would have used him properly.

VanGorder was a much more aggressive DC but he came under criticism for how he used Smith his two years he had him.

Well JG won coach of the year; but who really thinks he is all that? Those coaching awards are for a particular year and in 2012 ND truly had the luck of the Irish until they ran into Alabama.

Guess I'm the only one that finds it ironic this statement is made 3 days before the draft.

Maybe its just me.

Brandon George talked about the foot movement catching up with his nerve starting to fire back in January. That is when it started.

Albert Breer said "foot activation" in March.

Yes, they have been talking about his ability to move his foot.

What the hell is wrong with being optimistic? Lol

Optimism isn't a scourge effecting a populace like the Bubonic Plague or whatever that crazy disease was in Outbreak.

You can be an optimist, as well as a realist. It's called being 'grounded', mon frere.
