Any time a writer paraphrases something from an interview there is reason to be suspicious. Especially when the alleged comment is undeniably idiotic.
I doubt Jeff Fisher is dumb enough to believe that media distractions are the number one reason teams fail.
Now, could "distractions" such as a coach taking a leave of absence, or a key player being suspended, or a team having to practice all of its games in another city due to a natural disaster in the area it represents cause problems with a team's ability to prepare and perform? Certainly.
Members of the media asking "What did you think of so-and-so's comments that he's not getting the ball enough?" instead of "what do you guys need to do to beat so-and-so" aren't going to affect a team's ability to prepare and perform.
You don't win and lose because of media sessions, as much as the mass media would love to believe they determine the outcome of games.
