Very well said, Theebs. It can't be overlooked that the current political fiasco has everyone's attention, and is, too, drawing a lot of viewers away from the game. After the elections, I suspect numbers will climb back up, at least somewhat. People are glued to this election and it's taking viewers from all sorts of television programming, sports and otherwise,
I don't think politics has anything to do with anything concerning football honestly. Never has never will.
football and all sports fans want to root for and against someone. When there are Villains everything is better.
And I don't mean villains from the criminal aspect. Ray lewis history shows no one cares what these guys do none of the owners care either unless they lose money from companies via advertising.
If you look around the league right now there is no one creating this energy. Its just a bunch of guys. People do not hate Rodgers, Big Ben, Eli, Phillip Rivers etc......do casual fans know Phillip Rivers exists? A lot of people hate or hated Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Tony Romo.
Even Rex Ryan can not generate any care at the moment....He is in buffalo, no one cares if he runs his mouth or whatever. Its just the way it is. When he is in NYC people care, they make him a villain now he comes off a bit like a whiny baby because he is in buffalo.
All the young marquis qb;s elicit almost no emotion. Andrew Luck, Jameis winston, Mariotta, bortles, David Carr etc... They just do not move the needle say like If Dak happens to play against Wentz on SNF october 30th. Then again even if he doesn't and Romo does it will be huge because these guys move the needle.
it just happens like this some years. Then it rebounds.
