The NFL as we know it will soon end. A couple years from now it will be flag football.

The concussions is what's gonna bring the sport down. It's gonna become a huge liability. Insurance companies will not insure football.

A couple years from now we'll be rooting for the Mexico City Cowboys. Because the NFL will have to move elsewhere to avoid lawsuits. And pay players less since the NFL will be hurting for advertisers if a scenario like this plays out.

No. Messed with the fabric of the game. Letting him in would tempt others to do the same.

There are ways to acknowledge him without inducting him.

The fabric of the game has already been destroyed. I mean, they cancelled a World Series for goodness sakes. Records were broken because players took performance enhancing drugs and we've introduced asterisk's into the record books. I used to be a rabid baseball fan but now I couldn't care if they never played the sport again. I just don't watch; not a game, not a World Series, not any particular player....nothing. And that falls on the feet of of the owners and players. Their stance on Pete Rose is hypocritical.

Preach it, brother! We are in the damnedest minority on this take. It's confounding that so many people still want him out of the Hall. What a damn shame.

And you know what, I'm gonna say it, PEDs made baseball more interesting and fun.

Mid-late 90's baseball was so damn awesome to watch and be a part of. I love low scoring, pitching duels and defense and "small ball" as much as the rest. But those Maguire/Sosa (and for a while Galarraga) HR races were unreal! Bonds ended up going nuts with the long ball and that was the death of the exciting PED era. MLB couldn't take a dude mashing it the way Bonds was, destroying the "fabric" of the game and their beloved history. The BBWAA go ape**** when the status quo is tested (Conseco's congressional testimony and other occurrences didn't help, either -- leaked reports of a myriad of players juicing, etc).

Still love the MLB, but it's a different game now. And my team sucks. So there's salt there, too.

Edit -- @MichaelWinicki, I know you follow the game. What's your take, if you don't mind? Or is this not the place to have this discussion? The OP has even talked baseball in this thread. I'm real curious to see what you have to say.

Abso-freaking-lutely, Haley.

Hard nosed, blood, sweat, and dirt player who beat Ty Cobb's all time hits record. A sure fire record that will never be touched. Betting on baseball (when he was a manager, not a player) did nothing to get him those hits.

He never bet on his team to lose, and Giamatti had a vendetta against him and wanted to make a name for himself. The league already allows him to participate in MLB functions now, Manfred needs to do what's right,
Very true. Breaking Cobb's record should put him in by itself. In time, he will get in. The obstacle facing Pete is Pete. Plenty of people don't like him. He was always well known for being a hardass and, well, a prick. That has hurt him in a lot of regards. He still should be in the HOF.

Oh boy, is Pete ever a hardass, Haley! Both during his career and afterwards, to this very day. I love that about him. What a true warrior... and hardass :)

Thats why l always admired him. You want his kind on your team and nobody ever wanted to play against him. He never took any **** from anyone.

The downfall of the NFL can be summed up very simply
Political correctness and liberalism.
Even sports radio and TV are interjection a left wing slant.
When the local sports radio host sounds like Keith Obermann or his little brother Rachel Maddow something is definitely wrong.

Because half of them are owned by ESPN/Disney.........every show has a woman host telling me about football.....I turned on Around the Horn and it was 3 women and Tim Colishaw....Ditkas and Schillings get fired if they don't play ball

Very true. I turn on sports shows to hear about sports, not politics.
