If I've spent 10 years on this team and had one playoff game in my career, then looked around the locker room and noticed some of these guys are a lot better than I'm used to playing with, and maybe, just maybe I'm going to get my shot at going to the SB, you're damn straight I'd shut my mouth and be the best damn role player I could be.

Even if it doesn't work out I'm $2.5M richer when all is said and done.

Well good for you - even if I don't believe you.

These guys have te rest of their lives to think about.
The rest of their wives and childrens lives.
The rest of their nieces and nephews lives.

Maybe if I'm Shaq - and made 200 mil in my playing career...
maybe I'd take a pay cut to get a ring.

Or Alex Rodriguez.

Greg Ellis? Nah bruh... I gotta make sure that my family can maintain the lifestyle I've gotten them accustomed to.

I don't want to have to auction my assets 15 years from now because I can't afford to maintain it.

But Kudos to you.. I admire the selfless attitude for the love of the game.

Terrell Suggs racked up 12 sacks as a rookie just playing on nickel packages.

If Greg Ellis plays in all nickel packages and can't rack up more than 6 sacks, he has nobody to blame but himself. 80% of passing plays take place in the nickel.

Film from 2 years ago? When he was 31?

Yeah - If i'm dishing out the millions, I'd definitely question the fact that you could still play at the same level at 33.

Maybe if I saw you playing at that level at 32... I'd be more willing to throw you a bone.

But if I hadn't seen you do it in 2 years.. in the NFL.... yeah - I'm gonna question it.

Maybe it would be different if he were 26.

So playing two years on a part-time basis is the same as two years of full service? What happened to the adage, it's not the age of the tire, but the wear on the tread?

In a worse case scenario, Ellis has a fresh set of legs.

If he is worried about "out of sight, out of mind", well, then that speaks to how much confidence he has in his abilities and reputation, which is part of his problem.

Ellis got enough money from his rookie contract to do everything you are talking about. He was a number 8 pick.

Furthermore, I got JJT and every other beat writer telling me what a team player he is. A valued leader. I got Ellis himself saying this stuff.

At this point its ego, pure and simple. He doesn't want to be a 'role player' He wants to be paid like a top DE. Winning a championship apparently doesn't even rank in the equation, as he has no control over who he gets traded to.

Spare me the gotta put food on the table argument. This about looking at what guys like Winstrom got and saying "where's mine?"

Which is exactly what Coach Parcells alluded to in his press conference the other day.
