I have long thought only the truly great players can overcome the Cowboys garbage coaching and culture. Lee, Witten, Smith, Martin, Beard and Zeke currently fit that bill. One of those guys gets hurt and it all goes south. This is why so many early picks and FAs fail here. Good players but need coaching. They don’t get it here. Very interesting that our secondary from last season moved on and had good years. Very interesting to hear Barry Church describing the Jags prep vs Dallas. Dez could have been great but has been taught to not improve, pout, and slip. Very interesting to see Cedric Thornton go to Buffalo and have a good second half. Amendola is a star but could not cut it in Dallas? I could go on and on. This team has no hope with Garrett and the old drunk calling the shots. The fish rots from the head down in Dallas. This upcoming season will truly prove that the leadership stinks. Talented roster. Good draft coming up. Some cap money. It will amount to nothing.
I didn't know that about Thornton, but I'm not shocked. BUFF has the best NT in the game in Dareus and a high quality DT in Kyle Williams. So, not only does he have a very good player beside him, he's not being forced to play out of position as he was here. A player who is 6-4/309 like Thornton is going to have leverage problems at the nose. I cannot comprehend for the life of me how we don't know that.

Buffalo traded away Dareus to the Jaguars in mid-season. I guess you missed that.

The majority of this fan base or at least cz is pretty much done with Dak. If Rush were to take over and struggles I wonder if the sentiment would be the same? I'm in the minority in the mindset that Dak has the right stuff to be a franchise qb.

I did!!!

No joke? No wonder the JAG's went form 6th to 1st on D. Of course, Calais Campbell, Church, and Bouye didn't exactly hurt!!!

Thanks for the info, I truly wasn't aware!!!!

Edit: Oh, hey Jumbo!!!!!! Hope you're having a good time here at our new home!!!

I live in NY and have friends who like the Bills. Watched more Bills football than any non fan should. He was a rotational guy but really showed up in the second half. Not a starter or star but very solid player. He was wasted here. Happens often.

W/ a slight improvement in footwork, some training in how to handle the blitz, and just simply time and experience, I think Dak has top 10 potential. He already has the unteachables like extreme leadership, great attitude, and great work ethic, so now we just need some work on fundamentals. Hopefully the new QB's coach will be better about development.

It won't be Rush for sure, maybe a highly drafted QB, but once they game plan rush, he's done.
BINGO !!!!

Rush has NOT played against a top tier NFL defense, NFL defensive schemes, good opposing head coach/DC scheming him, and although he is pretty accurate his arm strength is mediocre at best and will essentially be a rookie. His goose would be cooked in a real NFL game against a good/average team and probably against bad teams.

I am astounded that people continually jump on the "change QB" bandwagon. This offense had troubles this year because:

#1. unimaginative offensive scheme

#2. offensive line woes

#3. Teams having a year of film on Dak and game planning his game

#4. distractions over the Zeke deal

#5. poor QB coaching

#6. Dak took a step back . . . probably related to #1- #5

Red Jesus has already said Dak is our QB of the future so that is that ... get used to it!

FTR, I loved Tony, I love Dak, and I was impressed by Rush and have nothing against him. None of my comments should be construed as "I hate player X and love player Y". These are just common sense items ... which seems to be lacking over here too (like at DC Cowboys). Don't know if it's young people who have never weathered the team storms or what.

If Cooper Rush were to outperform Dak in the off-season or preseason should he become the starter? Or if Dak misses the first 4 games and we are undefeated with Rush and the offense is rolling, should Dak get the starting position back? What factor should determine who our starter should be?

Dak won 22 starts in his first 2 seasons despite "coaching" deficiencies. What has Cooper Rush done, other than look good against scrubs in preseason games?

And now we're wasting Malik's talents.

You know, what I find strangely ironic is that we tout ourselves on drafting players w/ position flexibility, but refuse to do so on the DL, filling the roster w/ 3 tech types. How does that even make sense?

Our main problems this season were letting 2 very good offensive linemen walk and losing the best running back in the NFL for 6 games along with letting defensive players walk . But we went younger I think we will be better next season and Dak will be better because of the beating he took this season
I agree. You deserve some bacon, sir.

Ksk, you make a great point. I just had a thought. You know, they claim it's Marinelli that doesn't value the nose tackle position, but really, nothing has changed since Wade was the DC and they didn't want to move Ratliff to DE and the run defense was trash. I think it's Jerry more than anyone.

In all seriousness, we aren't married to Dak. It's not a death to us part pact. We stick with him in 2018, hopefully add a new weapon or two like the Eagles did for Wentz but if he doesn't improve and stays where he is in his development then it's back to the draft in 2019. If he goes down for a few games and Rush plays well in real games (not pre-season games), he plays until Dak comes back. I know the thread is meant to to draw comparisons to Romo going down and not goig back to him but remember the dude had three broken clavicles and three back surgeries in his career. He was physically unfit to continue playing. Ok, if Dak has a Teddy Bridgewater type of knee injury, Rush will get an extended look. In no other situation should it be extended.
