No argument there. But another organization could've done more with the talent they drafted because they're not run like a country club.
Probably. But how much better not sure. Not many teams winning a championship without an Elite QB or defense.

What we’ve missed even more is a GM who doesn’t become attached to players and a HC where the buck stops. Which is all part of the toxic culture . But I’d still argue talent was lacking but without a better organization unable to see or make the moves to fill those holes.

I will say Detroit is ahead of us at this point. They very well could be 5-0 right now. And play hard, where we play soft against better teams.

SF, Philly, Detroit, Dallas, TB (only because they are 3-1)
I was thinking of putting Detroit ahead of Philly though. From what I seen of both teams so far, Philly had more struggles with their wins through most of the games.
Agree. I think SF, Detroit, Philly are the best teams. And they all have something in common. They will punch you in the face. Dallas isn’t that team. Dallas will struggle and lose against Philly and Detroit. I really like Detroit. I’m from there and it’s the first time I’ve seen them in this good of shape. Love their HC. I just don’t think Dallas goes far, might miss the playoffs this year. The wheels could come off after Monday nights game.

And the people who are hopeful about a busdriver QB Doing it with a good running back and a great defense helping, those kind of teams only have a chance of winning, I think, when there isn't a team out there with tons of talent on both the Defense and Offense. It takes more than just a good defense to compete with the likes of the 49ers, a bus driver QB won't do it. Just because you have a QB you can win a championship with when you build the right team for him, doesn't mean he is good enough to do it on certain years when there is a well balanced team that is the best in the NFL that year. And I'm not calling dak a bus driver QB per say, just using that as an example. He has been a good QB; I'm not sure he is still at the same level as in his prime, just saying in last Sunday's game we did need a QB on the same level as the 49er's to compete

it should also be acknowledged that early in his GM tenure, Jerry did do the necessary things to build a championship team. All he wanted to do was win, and he did. Now, he wants to win only on the condition that he gets credit for it. And that MO is a proven failure.

Yea, I’m still not sure how great our defense is. Yes it dominates lesser teams but to be great must shut down or at least stifle great offenses and QB’s . And great defenses stop the run. We are still weak up the middle. Our pass rush is limited if Parsons isn’t impacting. Overall our defense isn’t as dominating unless it creates or gets turnovers.

Overall I’d argue it’s over hyped. And our defense becoming great is what most of our hype was centered around.

And we are missing a big bruising RB to compliment Pollard who isn’t a between the tackles kind of RB.

This offensive scheme by MM is suspect as well . It even struggled in Redzone against lesser teams. We have more glaring weaknesses than most want to admit.

Blowing out bottom tier teams has blurred our vision . At least the SF game appears to have everyone’s attention but they have over reacted because they didn’t see all of these issues going in.

One huge problem with the Cowboys is Jerry is always coddling his players. He refuses to make any critical comments about the team when they perform poorly. He never says the performance of his team was unacceptable no matter how bad it is. He just continues to spew positives about his team/players no matter how bad it gets. Stephen is pretty much the same way. They both continue to anoint the players. Jerry reportedly tore into his players once after the embarrassing loss to Green Bay in 2010 when he fired Wade Phillips. Jerry got pissed because his players quit on Wade and it was even obvious to him. It certainly got the players attention because they started stringing together wins after that, including one against Indianapolis with Peyton Manning, despite being stuck with a backup QB. Maybe he should try that approach again. Everyone on the team deserved to be ripped after the embarrassing performance we saw Sunday night.

The most disturbing aspect of this team year after year is their habit of consistently being soft. Physically and mentally.

Like the owner and his spoiled son, the team talks too much and acts like they have accomplished something they haven’t. They almost never seem focused and even after a game like Sunday’s absolute thrashing the whole organization acts like “business as usual”. That’s all culture and it starts at the top.

Can any of us imagine what a locker room or plane ride home would have been like for a Jimmy Johnson team taking a beating like Sunday night? Someone would have been cut. A message would be sent. Jimmy would be testy with reporters. Players would be uncomfortable.

None of that happens here now. In fact a few years ago after an embarrassing loss, Jerry was asked by a reporter if he was embarrassed- his response- “Embarrassed? Have you seen this stadium?”

The root problem with this team? Sure we don’t have an “elite” QB. We don’t have the most innovative head coach, yada yada.
But my fellow fans

Since our last divisional playoff win, these are the coaches Jerry has anointed to lead us back to the promised land:
HEAD COACHES (6)
  • Chan Gailey
  • Dave Campo
  • Bill Parcells
  • Wade Phillips
  • Jason Garrett
  • Mike McCarthy
DEFENSIVE COORDINATORS (8)
  • Dave Campo
  • Mike Zimmer
  • Brian Stewart
  • Rob Ryan
  • Monte Kiffin
  • Rod Marinelli
  • Mike Nolan
  • Dan Quinn
OFFENSIVE COORDINATORS (8)
  • Jack Reilly
  • Bruce Coslet
  • Maurice Carthon
  • Jason Garrett
  • Bill Callahan
  • Scott Linehan
  • Kellen Moore
  • Brian Scottenheimer
GENERAL MANAGER (1)
  • Jerral Wayne Jones
Folks, without changes at the top of this organization and how it functions, hiring an innovative new head coach, acquiring a new “star” QB (which is extremely difficult for ANY organization) or hiring some hot shot coordinators are nothing more than a new coat of paint on the Titanic.

Without changes at the top, all we have is a desperate hope that a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut. Or Lady Luck feels sorry for us and we get lucky.
I agree, but I think the root problem for that general manager and his cronies is talent acquisition. In the early years after Jimmy, Jerry spent tons of money on free agents but treated the draft like an afterthought. Now, he figured out the importance of drafting from Parcells but got asinine about free agency, so the front office fails to supplement good drafting with topnotch FA signings.

It doesn't matter how good the coach and coordinators are or how great the QB is if you are handcuffing yourself on talent acquisition. Jimmy Johnson once said, “I think the No. 1, most important person in your entire organization is your talent evaluator, whoever that guy is.”

Too bad Dan Snyder didnt spill the dirt he had on Jerry on his way out the door. Might have been enough to end his ownership. My guess is all the owners decided to let Snyder keep the money he stole from them if he kept his mouth shut.
You're right but Snyder (FedEx) has more money than most of the ownership, minus Allen (Seattle) at the time he was an NFL owner.

It’s very troubling that we can never match San Francisco’s physicality. They flat out punished us on Sunday night. The gap between the Cowboys and the 49ers is growing wider each season.

2 college superstars (Jimmy, Barry)

2 up and coming coordinators (Gailey, Garrett - unless you want to count him as inside boy)
2 high experience, steady eddy coaches (Phillips, McCarthy)
1 HOF coach (Parcells)
If Big Mac doesn't make it, that means we're going either High Experience/Inside Boy (Quinn) or HOF Coach (Belichick after the Pats can him this year). :muttley:

The Joneses are not selling the team (just like a number of other NFL franchises that have family ownership far longer than the Cowboys).
The best fans can hope for is that after the current owner/GM no longer is in control, his oldest son relinquishes the football team operations to qualified candidates, and he joins his sister and brother in just running the business\entertainment\PR branches.

Until that happens, threads about 'the root problem' are ad nauseam.

Some of the resumes of the coaches Jerry hired were astounding such as Kiffen giving USC the worst defense in their history. That impressed Jerry so much that he hired him to do the same for the Cowboys, which Kiffen promptly did.

He hired 0-16 coaches, he hired coaches who averaged 6-10 records. Jerry loves failures because he is a football man!
