And guys you know the reason why he was more feared earlier this decade.

Because we could afford to put him in those situations because we could put pressure on the QB consistantly and put him in situations where he was in better coverage need also. Since going to this 3-4 he's never been in the same sitations as often as he was before. Even the first year or two under Parcells when we ran the 4-3 he was still making plays more often. I think it may be more on switching to the 3-4 then anything. We don't have the linemen and LBs that can run the 3-4 effectively enough to put our DBs in good situations.

It does seem like he's been limited since we switched to the 3-4.

again i repeat yes RW was absolute garbage today and yes hes probably among the worst cover safeties in the NFL but look at the situation. with newman being out and Reeves gettin basically raped out there there was no choice but to put him back in coverage to help out. yes i know he didnt help but seriously was else could we have done??? once Newman gets back healthy we should see Roy more in the box where he is more effective

Roy always has 2-3 games in which he dominates. But at the same token, about 5-6 games he gives up the big play. The rest of the year hes pretty even. He was sloppy tonight and needs to step it up.

Roy led the team tonight in tackles with 8 tackles, all of them solo tackles. He also had a nice hit that broke up a pass. He also saved that first down at the end. Was it a great game? No. But he was nowhere near invisible. The problem is, we are used to Roy lighting people up every week and being the #1 spot on Jacked Up. When Newman returns, and they actually use Roy like they were planning on using him, I think a lot of you guys will be singing a different tune. Roy has made four straight Pro Bowls. You can't do that by being "the worst safety in the world."

Bradie James led our team in tackles last year too.

We need 3-4 guys that have actually proven they can play in the front 4. All of our front 7 are guys we drafted that haven't panned out or LBs switched from the 4-3. The only 3-4 guy is Ferguson and he's just a run stuffer. None of our LBs are good in the pass rush. And none of our ends do anything. When your front 7 sucks your defense sucks.

Wade Phillips' version of the 3-4 was supposed to allow RW to play close to the line of scrimmage and limit his isolation in man coverage. I think what we saw was that the injury to Newman devastated our scheme and left Williams even more exposed that he was in Parcells' defense. If he isn't one of the 4-6 players blitzing on a given play, he's asked to cover more ground and becomes even more vulnerable on late developing deep plays. I thought he covered poorly, but I was even more concerned with his lack of aggressiveness when tackling. I'd chalk that up to preoccupation with his coverage duties. IMO, An equally big issue is the team failure to recognize that CB depth is critical to the scheme given our current DB personnel.

nor we have darren woodson who was a GOD when it came to safeties. he was so good he moved from SS to FS to accomodate RW and still excelled. Roy was never a fast man and he may have lost a step too.

I noticed too that Roy doesn't seem to be as agile as he used to be. I remember times in his first 2-3 years in the league where he'd be off the screen and then all the sudden he'd fill a hole and destroy a runner in the backfield.

He's still one of the better SS's in the league, but I don't think he's an impact player anymore. He was just kind of 'eh' tonight.
That is the same way I see it. Roy does not hit like he used to and he still doesn't wrap up on his tackles. In years past he would take people down with the big hit so I didn't worry about him wraping up...but not anymore. Tonight I saw him hit some people clean and just bounce off. I really hope he can turn it back around.

Maybe he should dump that preacher who is leaching off of him and go back to Kelly Rowlins (sp?)

I was extremely angry when he didn't get deep enough on the burress TD that was clearly his fault.

However, all safeties get beat and i'm not going to start hating one of my favorite players for not making any plays in one game.

Bradies James is a MLB, and they should always lead your team in tackles.

My post is a response to someone that said Roy was invisible tonight. I would hardly call 8 solo tackles, a pass break up, and a big save on 4th down invisible.

I think he made every play on that final 4 and out by the Giants. He made the tackle on 1st down. Knocked down the 2nd down pass. Hit Toomer on 3rd down. And tackled Lorenzo short of the first down. If it weren't for him New York may have scored and made the game really interesting.

Whatever you guys want to say...

Look at that game tonight, if you think Roy had a positive impact on that game for the Cowboys you're a blind Cowboy Homer.

That was quite possibly one of his worst games of his career, not only was he getting beat deep like the good ol days but he was also getting caught flat footed in the gaps and would just get pancaked or trucked over by Jacobs and the other Giants RB's. He was extremely in-effective when trying to blitz. And if all that wasnt bad enough he looked sluggish and slow out there.

With all that being said im not ready to give up on him, hes been a playmaker in our secondary over the past few years. Forcing key turnovers and making big hits. Lets hope for a better game from Roy next week.

All the people hating on him like theres no tommorow should get over it cause its not like he will be cut anytime soon or replaced for that matter.

You might want to see that again....Lorenzen was into his slide two yards before the marker....it had little to do with Roy turning him sideways.
