Cooper Rush took his job
Outside of 8 months (May - December 2020) Cooper Rush has been the defacto Cowboys backup for 7 years.
Trey Lance has been with the Cowboys 7 months (August 26th, 2023).
Do better.

And if your comment was an attempt at sarcasm - do better at that too.

He was never a blue chipper.
Yeah you're wrong. You don't get drafted that high if teams don't think of you that way. It's fine to have a strong opinion, don't change facts.

No sarcasm...Lance was the #3 overall pick. Isn't he a phenom? Don't you think he should have been able to beat out a 7-year backup?
Come on man..Lance needs to play in the USFL or Arena for a few years.

Lance was an erroneous, fallacious reach by the Forty-niners' FO.
They were enthralled by that one-and-done season he put up as the North Dakota State University won their THIRD CONSECUTIVE national title.
Hindsight...Lance was a raw, but super talented QB that succeeded in that program - which has been a top 5 NCAA FCS football powerhouse during the 2010s decade- and continues to be in the 2020s.

He broke his hand and then his leg.
Did Purdy get hurt???

Why do you think they wanted Sam Darnold as the back up? They did not know how Purdy was going to respond and needed a legit back up.

Not Trance.

SF GM wanted to trade Lance that Spring.

Also, JimmyG left.

Except he was named the 2022 starter over JimmyG.

In training camp.

By default he was awarded the position by his draft status, to only be replaced by Mr. Irrelevant.

Sounds like Trance was the one that was irrelevant after training camp and traded away.
