Let‘s face it- the Cowboys front office has two very bad habits:
  • BAD HABIT #1. Over-valuing our own players.
    • Think about it. We have a whopping two wild card playoff wins with the “cornerstone” talent we’ve built with the best of our last 7 drafts. For years, our front office has looked at guys like Zeke, Dak, Cedee Lamb, Trevon Diggs, and several other players and thought, “We have to keep these guys because look at what we’ve accomplished with them.“
    • We haven’t accomplished that much with them.
    • I‘m not saying all of those guys should be traded or cut. But I am saying THEY AREN‘T ENOUGH.
  • BAD HABIT #2. Not being dissatisfied enough with lack of playoff results. The Jones boys apparently are satisfied enough with what they've been getting because if they weren’t satisfied, they would be more aggressive to make changes.
    • If you really want to win a championship, you look at your team with a critical eye, not just assume all the guys you think are good just need another year to “get lucky”.
    • SJ has been saying lately ad nauseum that we are “just a click away”, just need “little more juice”. He and Jerry both act like they haven’t sniffed a championship in 27 years because of “bad luck”.
In my eyes there is only ONE player on this team who is untouchable- Micah Parsons. Literally everyone else is available if by moving them we could get better.

Over-valuing talent means you don’t have the critical eye to see beyond what you like about any player’s past performance. And if you truly want to win a championship, you have to stop thinking, “We’re really close, we just need to get lucky”.
It all comes back to a lack of urgency. There is no pressure on the Jones boys to win a championship. They will do what makes them comfortable and hope it works.

Absolutely..

#2 has to do with them not wanting to take a risk and they like the perennial being in the hunt team that is no threat to a Super Bowl.

It’s unreal we couldn’t at the very least get to a nfc title game this year.

The NFC was down bigtime this year.
The 2 teams that finished ahead of us in SF and Phil made key moves in FA to take advantage of the conference being down.

Our leadership stayed put pretty much. And in the end we were not a better team than either.

I just have to note that the Cowboys had effectively wasted 10 years with Garrett. The guy is now out of the league.

I'll tack on people like Switzer, Dave Campo and some really bad coordinators.

This has to be on the list somewhere. Dallas simply doesn't like good coaching if it doesn't kowtow to Jerry. Recently its been better but a huge percentage of the past 25 years of futility were with questionable coaching.

And why should there be a sense of urgency when you’re the greatest show on turf.

Obviously the Cowboys fanbase continues sending the wrong message to our ownership.

Management is completely guilty of over-valuing their own players! Some of this is explained by their being burned by expensive FA signings in the past. Perhaps due to their own bad decision making regarding contracts, but they are playing scared now in free agency. I'm not sure they've been thrilled with some of the outcomes when trading for veteran players either. They seem gun-shy with respect to trading picks for vets. Management thinks they are being smart by avoiding "expensive" FA's and trades. They've over-corrected after their own blunders.

Bad Habit #1 - Nepotism. They have taken this to a ridiculous level and the reason companies do not allow nepotism is that it destroys accountability. And nepotism leads to #2

Bad Habit #2 - Too many yes people. The GM is one that does not like to admit he was wrong and is ego driven. There is one account of his son standing up to him, Manziel, but what about the injured and character issue picks in the 2nd round? Are they so great at drafting that the 2nd rounder can be a high risk player? Do you think McClay places them there?

Booger revealed some of himself on a call into 105.3 one morning several years back when they were questioning a decision that he'd made. He was livid to the point of apologizing after his tirade at the hosts. I know some of the guys on The Ticket and they expressed the same thing and were happy to lose the Cowboys, not a money maker anyway. They have set the record for radio flagships and part of this is the must highlight the GM and now, his son.

If he will lose it on a radio show, how do you think he is in the comfort of his own kingdom when questioned about anything? He is ego led and that is really the overall problem with this team. Everything must feed his ego.

We just won our first road playoff game in 30 years and our first back to back playoff appearances In 17 years....they are clearly doing the right things but as fans the frustration is getting higher and higher every year we don't get past the divisional round.

My one ask is to please use FRee agencie to fill gaps....we crush the draft and are good developing guys...that's the missing piece

Agree with #1 but don’t agree. With #2. They are more upset than any fan could be about not having much playoff success of late. They think they are doing everything necessary to get over the hump. They are just clueless on how to make that happen. Maybe this year woke them up? We will soon find out.

They need to approach their own players like they do outside free agents. They do a decent job of playing money ball with the outside free agents and if they did that with their own guys they drafted they wouldn't have such bloated contracts like dlaw, zeke, dak, jaylon who is finally off the books I think. Save the big money for the few guys you think are really worth it not just guys you like cause you drafted them.

The overvaluing of their own players is a big one. It's very strange that 31 other teams can't provide anything better! It's a terrible philosophy!

On Bad Habit #1
Jerry hates letting go of talent he selected even if they are not performing . He has a fear that they will blossom somewhere else and the reality of his difficiencies as a GM will be further exposed. He would rather stretch and suffer with talent he selected than be exposed as a bad GM , where a player takes off with another team. hence the Dak hangup. He fears dak can do much better or win a SB with another team. This happened with Demarcus Ware playindg with the broncos and winning a SB once he left Dallas.

OK counterpoint

some are still very upset Copper was cut and IMHO was the exact right move as he was being far overvalued at 22mil he was no longer fit as 1 paid lie 1 but a 2 in 21 heck Dalton was more productive in 21 , and IDC what you all THINK ABOUT THE DRAFT COMP, it was his $$$$$ and timing of guarantees that effected that.. they did no hold onto AC too long they let Cwill, jarwin, and colins plus didn't overvalue Ced everyone was screaming about that..in fact they cut zurlien and also ate Jaylons deal and cut him mid-season.. they are making moves. Overblown they hold onto out players too long, also finally gave up on romo, ware and others. they USED TOO do that, but some are hard to cut with the high cap hits but that coming soon with zeke.
Funny thing is, if they would have kept Cooper, you would be all on board with that. You are ok with anything the Jones boys do.

So true. Nepotism is poison to big organizations. It’s one thing to own a small family lumber business and the son or daughter is involved and eventually takes over. It’s a completely different situation in a complex operation like an NFL team. Nepotism is a cancer in the Cowboys organization.

There is a ton of scholarly research done the last 30-40 years showing how nepotism stunts the competitive performance of a company. Especially when the boss surrounds himself with family that cannot or will not speak the unvarnished truth to them.

And with SJ and JJ, they assume what they do is automatically good. Bill Parcells once said that Jerry had to be convinced to change his mind. Imagine a HOF HC having to convince the oil wildcatter that his football ideas aren’t correct.

Micah the Mouth will bolt to the Eagles when his rookie contract is up.
