So, Rainbow Six Extraction is OK. I was kind of hoping for a campaign, but it's entirely a multiplayer shooter. I played a few "rounds" online, and while it wasn't necessarily bad, it just never pulled me in. I suppose if you were really into the Rainbow Six Siege game (I never was), you might really enjoy this. I'll most likely give it a few more chances, but it doesn't seem like a game I'm going to get lost in.

Good thing it was on Game Pass!

Gamepass was a major game changer that has freaked me out honestly with the amount of amazing and pretty much free content. And now with the new acquisitions Holy Garrappoli Cannoli! Man gaming is taking over. Horizon and Elden Soon........
They are buying up everything...if they wanted to start the exclusive march they would be cutting out Sony on a lot of IPs (I would). It's hard not to be jealous of game pass when we pay full price on the Sony end. It does feel like a Netflix long game where they plan to turn a profit down the road bc I can't imagine how much they are covering it at this rate tbh. See Sony is talking of introducing a Plus/Now combined membership to compete but unless we get full $60-70 games for free, I don't see how it even compares.

My only fear is that they are holding that ace for a later play.

From a business standpoint, if they started doing it every studio purchase, it would start creating more anger among gamers and eventually the media would start talking about it and then the government might get involved over anti-trust concerns.

If they wait until they buy all of the studios they want, then announce they are no longer going to add support for PlayStation in all games going forward, it would cause an uproar but it would be one battle to overcome rather than several building up over time.

I hope they never resort to that though as it already sucks that some games that look like they would be great are platform-locked to platforms I do not own nor want to have to buy for one or two games.

I didn't even think of the monopoly aspects that Microsoft is already very familiar with due to their foundation in the PC world. Very good point there, if anyone knows how to slowly buy up everything and skirt the law "legally" it would be them with their history with Windows software.

Now down the line, I can see their lobbyists starting to approach DC in ensuring that all in one streaming service becomes a "standard" that goes along with a cable type subscription; bundle bundle lol. Then come the subsidies! :D

But I also agree it would be bad for gaming in general, it should be about the system instead of "who you snagged" in terms of the games itself. Show me why your system is great, not by a defaulted game selection angle but then that's been going on since Nintendo vs Sega. I guess being on the Sony side of the exclusives, I'm being a bit hypocritical in hoping Microsoft wouldn't do the same after all that money being spent to buy up studios.

The problem is that the companies complaining would be Sony and Nintendo, which are Japanese companies, so in this case, anti-trust may not be given as much weight as it was during the days of the browser wars because it would just hurt the American-owned company and Sony and Nintendo are already platform-locking some of their games.

I forget that they are both based in Japan...and definitely went into exclusive hyperdrive in the PS4 era it seemed though there were still some Microsoft exclusives like Halo/Gears of War/Forza etc. Almost seems fitting they fight back a little at this point, but they are doing so with a different angle by buying the established game studios and making them exclusive as opposed to the old Unchartered vs Gears of War type of competitions.

For quality of life type things I don't like it, but can understand where Microsoft starts becoming the needed bad guy to shake things up for their sake. I can easily see now the love-hate relationship that would develop if they bought up From Software and made Elden Ring exclusive to Microsoft. I would buy their system, but hate them for it.

Appreciate the info and take!

I typically only play PC games, though I have owned different console systems from Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony in the past.

I have a Nintendo Switch that I have not yet opened due to being too busy that I mainly got for nostalgia reasons (N64 games) and a few Switch-only games like Zelda, Mario, etc.

If I buy another console it would be the PlayStation 5 but given how many games I already have that I have not played, I will probably wait until they release an updated version at some point before I seriously consider it.

For now, I have a great PC gaming setup that I am enjoying when time permits.

I’m simple… I like shooters and straight to the action; so basically COD resurgence then switch and do a little battlefield 2042, although that game needs a lot of fixing. I really hate that there’s no scoreboard and that you can’t search servers. I was a huge fan of battlefield 1 but then it kind of went to crap and currently I would say it’s a 5/10 game at best.

Of course you have fifa 2022.. very competitive in that game. Maybe a little to competitive.

I think there is a way to reach the scoreboard. Trying to think of how without having the game in front of me. lol I may have to report back to you.
