Yes, I played it .. the original UO was a lot of fun back then.
It was awesome until they started adding insurance and blessed everything and ninjas and all that stuff.

I posted this in the "Interesting Sites" thread, but thought it would be good to post here as well.
I found that site long ago when I was looking for a way to play an old Windows game where my original copy would not work on Windows 10, and I was able to find a workable version on that site.
Just started Outer Worlds and this thing is great. I didn't realize it was the Fallout people making it but this is legit. Dark humor, good gun mechanics, rpg a mili, great env. Kinda Bioshock vibe to it. I like that in this env, the morality pays off to be devious/selfish instead of having to hold a good moral standing to succeed. Turned the morality thing it on its head and it works, actually makes the decisions feel interesting in dialogue options.
I was still at Origin in the early days of UO but I didn't actually work on it. I was on the teams making Wing Commander and the flight sims that came out of that studio. UO was definitely groundbreaking at the time.Since there seem to be many old school gamers on this site.
Including some old school MMORPG gamers.
Did anybody here used to play Ultimate Online?
I used to LOVE playing UO. One of the first fully online MMORPG’s. You could own your own house, there were dungeons. You could be a thief and steal from other players or be a murderer.
I remember having multiple characters. A warrior. A Mage, a tamer who has dragons and a Murderer character.
I also remember saving up to buy my own house bear one of the dungeons, named Despise. I would use my murderer to attack and kill people who were going through the dungeon and then loot all of their belongings.
I know UO is still around but it’s nothing like what if once was with all the changes they’ve made.

Thanks, man. It has been quite the ride. I know the guys who worked on that were super dedicated to making something new. I worked on the old single-player Ultima games and wanted to work on that one. Just didn't work out that way. That’s awesome man. Such a cool job you have.
They definitely laid a foundation for MMORPG’s with that game. It’s one of my favorites of all time.
I would actually love to play it again, if they created a couple of servers with the original style rules and gameplay.

There are many UO private servers that are free to join and play here are just a couple among many.

Best of all they are free and you don't have to pay any sub to EA/Broadsword.
There is also a game called Legends of Aria which is highly moddable, a group of developers started their own server called Legends of Ultima, I believe everything is in place except the original map which is being developed.
I already owned 3 (installed but haven't played it yet) but I bought 1 and 2 over the holidays heavily discounted so I may dive into that series soon when time permits.Love the Witcher series,
Finished the 1st one.
Played thru the 2nd a couple of times and still have my special edition box with map and all sorts of goodies.
Am ashamed to say though I still haven't completed the 3rd.

Good to hear there's a future for us
I remember in my 20s playing MMOs with a couple of guild members in their 60s which was really shocking to find out.A couple of buddies I play PUBG with are 50+ years of age. Despite all our experience we still can match the skill of those Chinese hackers.
Also met a couple of people playing RTS games that were in their 60s and 70s respectively.

These days, I just assume most people playing MMOs are 30+ year old gamers
I am directly responsible for some of this. I was 48 in 2016 and 51 in 2019.

Some of the people in some FB/Wow/other MMOs groups I belong to look to be over 50 years old, idk maybe they have just aged horribly.
Ever heard of the older lady that plays Skyrim and has become somewhat of a celebrity among fans. Good for her I say, do what makes you happy regardless of age.
