Come On Rick, you guys are real close to some bases
Go find some gear and vehicles, and if you happen to see any police officer, highway patrolman walkers kill them and take their body armor. Where did all the body armor go?

Kind of funny because they used all kinds of the body armor stuff while at the prison...have not seen a stitch of them using anything like that since.

There are 310 million firearms in the US not including the military ( more guns than people). If 90-95% of the population is now undead, why is the alexandrian gun closet so sparce ( maybe 100-200 weapons). Makes no sense.

I would think that constant raiding by everyone in a general region would greatly impact the current supply held by any individual community within that region. The initial raids collected firearms from stockpiles (gun stores, police departments, etc.). The raids that followed gathered firearms from former users, abandoned homes (treasure!), or other communities. Firearm supplies would likely increase and decrease accordingly. The Alexandrians' supply may be low now but successful raiding could turn the situation around fairly quickly.

Yep and just as Eugene has highlighted... The lack of firearms isn't as big a problem as a lack of ammunition.

Over the beginning of the outbreak there had to be a hellacious amount of ammunition burned through.

10 billion bullets are sold in the US each year. With the population of walkers around 250 million, and since there are tons of walkers still around wheres all the ammo. Sitting in someones car?

Thats 10 billion bullets each year. Suspension of belief is required. I should stop trying to apply logic to a ZA show. Also who has been mowing the sides of the highways the last 2-3 years

But ya gotta find'em.

All the obvious hiding spots probably disappeared early in the game.

And not only do you need to find'em, they need to be something that will work with the weapon you're holding.

Not to mention 95% of the ammo bought by the public is probably getting sent down a range. Very few people stockpile that much ammo. Even less people are accurate enough to precisely place a bullet in a walkers head so that initial stockpile people raid is going to go pretty quickly.

I think this is the biggest reasons you'd find that it would run out very quickly.

In the panic of the initial days, weeks, people would have burned through a ton of ammo like fools.

And everyone seems to forget that you're not simply driving all over the country to collect this stuff. You're going to be very centralized where you are because guess what you're going to run out of gas, probably faster than most people thing. Then if you're in say Georgia, without the benefit of driving around all over God's Green earth that means your walking.

That stockpile and Joe Average's house in Wisconsin? You're probably not going to be finding your way there to pick it up.

How long would the gas last? Doesn't it break down after a certain point? And there is no one making more.

not real sure but i have a gas can in my garage i found the other day i had back when i had a lawnmower (10 years?) and gas was still in there and i was able to use it as a solvent real quick. didn't put it in a car....

This is true. But the folks that do stockpile ammo tend to be the ones that are accurate enough to precisely place a bullet in a walkers head. Ammo hoarders don't waste ammo. A round spent should be spent well, that means putting holes where you want them to be with every shot possible. Also, ammo hoarders don't tend get their ammo at the retail price. Many have the proper licensing to make their own ammo. It's interesting to me that Rick's group is toying with that very idea of making their own ammo. IMO, a wise course of action in the world they live in.

About a year in the tank, 6-8 months in a sealed container, but can be used by adding a small amount of fuel stabilizer according to what I read on the web.

Why doesn't anyone go get an Abrams tank, I'm sure the walkers haven't eaten them lol. Drive that sucka right through Neagans base. 10,000 walkers couldn't stop a tank, it would smash them easily.

How bout a dump truck with railroad track clearers up front? I know the RV is cute and all but they have had time acquire much better vehicles.

And Ethanol gas breaks down even quicker and is hell on small engines over the winter.

Yep.

And you can forget about shotguns and all that ammo... Against the undead it's highly dangerous because you need to be so close to the target.

That depends on which type shell you use. You're right if you use birdshot, but if you use buckshot you've got a much greater distance to shoot a walker. Buckshot would become a rare commodity though.

But in herds the spread could take out multiple walkers, since it only takes piercing the brain to kill them.

You'd have to be close to that herd... and if it is a herd then you'd have a bunch of them. And if there weren't enough pellets penetrating the brain to put down the zombie, then they'd be on you pretty quickly.
