The Walking Dead-Season 8, Episodes 1-8

I like the show as I really don't watch much series tv just this and Vikings.
But I get all the criticism lately I mean not only did Rick walk in and threaten the garbage pail kids but he also told Jadis that the sanctuary was surrounded by walkers and his people were on the outside waiting to finish them. I mean now Jadis can go and kill ricks people and free the saviors. That is freaking terrible writing if it goes down that way.
Think about the fact that they made Rick so concerned about the saviors workers so he goes and gets his own people killed.
Just plain dumb.

Certainly the writing has been a big problem over the last couple seasons.

The sequence with Carl just plowing into that mini-hoard of zombies with his new friend was just so stupid.

And the sequence of Daryl just arriving in time to crash the garbage truck in the pickup truck loaded with speakers... Come'on!

Should have been a bus! :muttley:

The plan has to be to lure the garbage pail kids out in the open at the sanctuary. The title of the episode even refers to Negan wanting him alive and brought to him.

If that's true then I'm good with that.
The fight between Rick and Daryl was also stupid I mean they wanted that 50 cal gone but what a dumb way to do it.
Also like I said above the fact that Rick would be worried about the saviors workers is ridiculous.
In there world time it has not been very long since Negan smashed Glenns face off with Lucille.
I do like the show but sometimes I think they are way off the mark with the writing.

I get a TV show needs a certain amount of "close calls" in order to maintain excitement but this show seems to go overboard.

And yes, I'll still watch the show. :)

It's been two "nick of time" situations in the past two or three shows. The garbage truck and before that, Rick and Darryl to the rescue when Carol had her brain fart and failed to get that gun.

And here's a question, how could they have possibly known who was driving that truck before they smashed into it?

Loud noise attracts walkers. I would not have cared who was in the truck and would have rammed them just the same. I would have cussed whoever was behind the wheel after ramming them. "Hey Rick! Wassup with the boom boxes? My bad." lol.

And this painfully decompressed storytelling! Ugh! Are the so completely out of ideas that they have to drag this "War" out for the entire season?

Is the well of ideas truly that dry? If so, it's time to hire some new people before it's too late and this show never recovers. Of course, maybe it already is?

My personal opinion...they've moved through the story way to fast and they're quickly approaching getting beyond the comic. I feel that's the biggest reason they're dragging The War story line out as long as they've been. They're honestly not terribly far behind the comic now and could easily pass them by the end of next season, especially if they had finished The War up quickly this season.

I get the argument cause I personally would not care about anyone under Negan's watch but we have to remember the workers have zero to do with what Negan does. They're basically slaves. They're treated as nothing more then labor by The Saviors.

Rick at times goes out of his way to show people, probably even to convince himself, that he's not like Negan.

I think they're going to slow it down in season 9 by showing some things that occurred in the "time jump" after the conclusion of AOW.

Thank you for mentioning that point, it is, in fact, something I was thinking about. I was wondering if it was a factor in what feels apparent to me to be decompressed storytelling in a blatant effort to stretch things out.

Anyone familiar with the comic writer Brian Michael Bendis? That guy was famous for telling a story in 6 issues instead of two! Drove me crazy!

If, as you've said, they're "caught up" with the comic, this can go one of two ways - very good, or very bad.

Good in the sense of new, unexpected directions, and bad if, as it appears, the TV writers don't have any good ideas of their own.

Whatever they do, it needs to be something BIG. This scrounging around with minor skirmishes in the woods is beyond old and stale.

There needs to be a bigger picture and higher level thinking.

Maybe trim down the bloated cast and have a smaller group set off on a quest to actually try to find out what happened and what's going on in what should be a much bigger world?

I remember virtually those same "people" who lived in Woodbury under the Governor. After their "saving" by Rick and Co, they were quickly and conveniently disapatched during that "virus" storyline. Get out that eraser!

LOL!

I was thinking... Where ever Rick shows up carnage and death soon follows...

-The quarry outside Atlanta
-Hershel's farm
-The prison
-Woodbury
-Alexandria

Heck just look at Alexandria... There are only a few folks left alive that were there when he originally arrived.

"Slow it down" even more? Yikes!

Count me out if that happens!

What I mean by that is I think the TV will deviate from the graphic novel and have a couple short arcs that occur during the graphic novel's time jump. Which I would be OK with.

One of the big disappointments for me is that you flip a page and suddenly we're so far into the future and stuff has gone on that we never see.

No kidding! Even Woodbury! Remember how calm and peaceful those places were before? Rick is the real plague!

Oh, OK. I have no frame of reference to what goes on in the comic book.

But as a fan, I need to see bigger picture things start to happen or I'll be checking out soon.

I do too. I think it's going to fill in a lot of the time jump stuff that the comic leaves out. It's their only true way to put some distance between themselves and the comic at this point so that they're not getting ahead of the comic and potentially ruining comic stories with spoilers.

Excellent points.

They haven't quite caught up to the comic but they're honestly not very far behind. They could easily catch it in a season to a season and a half if they were so inclined to do so. The next major thing in the comic really didn't last that terribly long, to be quite honest.

It would be good if they got ahead and just went a totally different path from the comics. That would be a very good thing. My guess is, however, that you're right and they don't know where to go really without the template from the comic that they can go off and tweak so they're going to sacrifice some time this season, and probably next, slowing things down to let the comic get out ahead of them more and give them more story to work with.

The group needs to be down sized for the TV show. I completely agree with that. There simply isn't enough time or episodes to develop that amount of characters to any real degree, or give them proper show time. They've got far to many players in this group and it needs to be dwindled down to make it easier to give the characters more time, and more meaningful situations.
