The Worst Thing About Being A Cowboys Fan

Its not the hate. I know why we're hated - everybody else is just jealous, I get that.

The absolute worst thing about being a Cowboys fans is we get compared to the Yankees, Celtics or Lakers, and Montreal Canadiens. And we get all the front runners on our band wagon.

We are not like the Yankees in any way shape or form IMO. The Skankees have a fan base of idiots like no other, well except maybe the Red Sox. Cowboys fans are some of the classiest most decent people among fans of all sports teams. That can never be said about Yankee fans! The Yankees always seem to get the calls in their favor. MLB favors the Yankees. The NFL has never favored the Cowboys in the same regard.

We arent like the Celtics or Lakers.

We arent like the Montreal Canadiens.

And I hate being associated with the front runner fans that follow those other teams.

At this time, I would say our GM. He's single-handedly given us years of misery. I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel so I'll just be a disgruntled fan. It's hard watching this thing unfold and people make excuses for it year after year.

I think we get lumped in together with all those teams because of the extreme sense of entitlement a lot of this teams fans show.

8-8 is considered terrible. (Not saying its great, but it can definitely be worse)

I sometimes secretly hope for some truly terrible Cowboy football if only to thin out the herd a bit.

But in reality that won't last because as soon as the Cowboys show any promise those front runners will be back again.

I don't think the Cowboys have the problem of front runner fans any longer. They would actually have to be at the front for that. If they win more games and are a serious threat for a Super Bowl, the front runner fans will return. Some of the old fans may start showing some interest as well.

I do not worry about journalists and their opinion. Be they real or ex-players.

I don't waste my time being concerned about band wagon fans. I have a life and their existence isn't even a blip on my radar.

I am amused by the fans of other teams, but realize, as jaded as they are about their team, I am the same way.

What does cause me some concern is being labeled by some here as a hater or pessimist. I suppose I should ignore that, but this is coming from people who I have a kinship with in regard to this team.

But I'll get over it.

The worst part about being a Cowboy fan is two-fold for me.

1. Seven months of no football in the off-season.

There is a feeling I cannot seem to put into words when the season ends. Especially the ones that send the team home. Winter seems a bit colder when the Cowboys have been eliminated.

2. The fact that this team was a rightful inclusion with the Lakers and Celtics and Yankees at one time.

Some here lecture about winning, and expectations as if a fan has no right to either. Others orate desir4e for a winning outcome is a sense of entitlement and shouldn't enter into being a fan of the team, the game itself should be enough.

I am old school and have been a fan since day one of this team. To me the team is like a brother. I can find fault with my brother and it end up in the dirt with fists and elbows flying.

But someone else make a remark about him and I rush to his defense.

My expectations are to win every year and I reserve the right to point out their shortcomings, no matter what player, coach, management, or front office personnel.

There used to be a silly expression once.

Time when you have weed will get you through times when you have no money better than the reverse.

I don't subscribe to the weed part, but the Cowboys have gotten me through some of the worst times in my life.

I want them to begin winning again, because it makes life much sweeter.

It absolutely does. The proof is that every year there's some poll trying to anoint some team (any team but Dallas) as America's Team. If the moniker didn't matter, the media and fans of other teams wouldn't be so damned obsessed with it.

I almost think its something that Cowboys fans just think exists, just to keep our spirits up in this era of sucking, even though it really doesn't make the much difference to most fans anymore.

I agree, that is far and away the worst thing about being a Cowboys fan. And of course, that argument makes no sense - the boys haven't been the frontrunner pick in nearly 20 years.

Also unlike those other franchises, this team truly is "America's Team". That's the brand.

I've never understood why people get so bent out of shape about "America's team". For the most part I see other fans purposely baiting Cowboys's fan by calling other teams that.

Again, the only way there is a connection between the two is in your head. The 'Dream Team' comment was clearly in reference to the old Olympic basketball teams.. not a rip against our Cowboy teams. That's exactly what i was talking about though. We, as Cowboy fans, sometimes are a bit egotistical in thinking that any comment made by another team must be directed at us in some way.

He was simply saying that he thought they had a really stacked team.. like the old Dream Teams.. that was pretty clear.

The main thing that bothers me about being mediocre is my youngest son. He LOVES the Cowboys and kids at school tease him. He's only in the 3rd grade and kids that age go with who's winning and Michael Vick for some reason. He wanted a Dez Bryant Jersey so I bought him one. I noticed he wasn't wearing it to school and found out why. The kids tease him when he wears it? I told him that when we start winning again those same kids will convert to Cowboys fans....God I hope we start winning again.......

C'mon man. We get it. You hate the 27-time world champion New York Yankees. Not all Yankees fans are front runners, just like not all Cowboys fans are moronic Romo-haters that post on internet message boards (not talking about you). Teams that have a rich history with multiple championships will always have tons of fans. Some are front-running jerks and others are not. That Yanks are losing tonight if that makes you feel any better. However, they're still in 1st place......
