If you think Zeke will be on the opening day roster then you must believe the Jones boys cave and give Zeke his demands or Zeke caves and agrees to wait his turn to get paid. Which is it? I think we have a real standoff here and neither side is giving in. The running game will be greatly demished this season and I don't know that we can recover from that. Anyone that is hand wringing over this is rightly doing so. Nothing that is accomplished in training camp is more important to this team than getting Zeke back in the good graces of the Jones boys and back on the field. Or the Jones boys find a way to be fairly compensated for Zeke in a trade.

Well, let's play it out in the hypothetical exercise that's been going on in the thread thus far. Zeke holds out past Aug 6th this year and next. Dallas does not sign him, improbably they do not franchise him, and most impossibly they don't even trade him. Zeke becomes a restricted Free Agent.

In March of 2020, Ezekiel Elliot will be 25 years old. Leveon Bell was just offered a 4 year contract by the NYJ at the age of 27. Todd Gurley signed a deal from the LAR at nearly 15m$ per season.

Let's say Miami comes calling first, and they offer Zeke a 5 year deal, 82 m$ a year. That breaks 16m a year, making him the clear cut highest paid RB in football. Remember this is 2 years from now, so contract inflation to 16m isnt so crazy. Imagine if you're the Detroit Lions. You haven't had a good running game in 20 years! Literally Barry Sanders. All you have to do is tack on that final year on his deal and its set. You get Zeke for the next half decade plus on that one single action. Heck yes that'd be worth it. 6 years, 100m is 16.6 a year. His contract will end when he's the same age as Leveon will be at the end of his. Vikings signed AP at 26 to a 7 year deal. The length isnt unlikely, so it's a debate about how much per year Zeke could get in 2020 when a few more RBs would have likely signed and possible even upped the ceiling.

Man, The long ranging problem I'm seeing with this #21 sideshow Bob tantrum, JoeKing, Is that this pacifier effect of a "new" contract is only gonna placate the baby short term, as it's obviously inevitable ( to me anyway)he's gonna' hand grenade on us in an hamstringing fashion at probably the most inconvenient time imaginable.

I hope you are right about Zeke on opening day.
Do you think he's working out in San Cabo and will be ready to play without injury?
I also worry about his behavior in that great resort. Talk about an Ugly American ...

Zeke has had times when he was not in the greatest of shape and times when he worked out like a maniac. I think a massive contract is what motivates him, so I'm willing to bet he's working out like a madman right now drooling at the thought.

You mentioned Le’Veon Bell. He just signed a 4 year, $52.5 million contract. No way is Zeke getting almost double that, especially with his off-the-field issues and the continuing devaluation of the position.
