Theories regarding Romo

I haven't lost all hope in Romo by any means. He frusturates me, without a doubt, but a big part of his problem is a piss poor coaching staff that doesn't do him any favors.

As has been said many times on here, Romo is playing not to make mistakes. He can't do that. That's not him. His style of play is risky, but also rewarding. He isn't Aikman or Brady and never will be. He's Favre. That's good and bad, but it's what he is and it can't be changed. When our coaching staff figures this out (damn, I could tell them this for a lot less money than they make), our offense might get back to being productive. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for running the ball and running it a lot, but when we do pass, we need to allow Romo to be Romo.

Romo has never been a good pocket passer, Romo earned his fame, avoiding the rush, rolling out, extending plays, basically backyard football. Now Garrett has him trying to be Tom Brady like, and Romo does not have the experience at reading defenses like a Brady, or Brees. Romo is best when he is on the run, he has to be moving to make plays, more like a Steve Young type.

THIS!!!!!!!!! We need to give up on trying to make Romo a drop back pocket passer because he AIN'T that. He is what he is and since the Boys settled on him as their QB, they need to let him play to his strengths and deploy an offense that allows him to do so. We just have to take the risks that his type of play brings, along with the rewards. If not, why keep him?

Yes! He became Tony Romo the NFL quarterback by being very risky...if he's a good backyard football player, then let's let him play backyard football.

But in that situation, a smart QB would see that the safety moved up to the LOS. That sack was totally on Romo. He HAS to identify where the safety's are, and he failed to do so.

Maybe he felt Flo or a RB would chip the guy. He ran a long way to get to Romo.

Nope. He walked up to the defensive right as Choice went in motion.

There was no TE on that side and the safety moved up when Choice went in motion to that side of the field. It was an empty backfield.

Not one for starting new threads after a loss, so I'll just plant this little rant in the dirt and move on with my life.

Denver focused on taking away Witten and the run and gambled correctly that Romo couldn't beat their secondary with our WRs. Not thrilled about the prospect of even more talented defenses piling onto the gameplan Denver mapped out today.

Curse you, Parcells, for still being in my brain. After four games, we are what we are. Jerry Jones would say we've lost two games to undefeated teams. Randy Galloway would say we've only beaten two winless teams. Either way, we're 2-2. Average, in a division where average is not good.

As for Romo's mediocre play through four games, I think it is a combination of two things. First, Romo is throwing like he's got an injured hand. I have no proof, it just looks that way to me sometimes. He's always been prone to throwing off his back foot, across his body, varied arm trajectories, etc. What made him successful in the past was that he did these things with accuracy. He's been erratic with his accuracy in every game this year compared to years past. But its more than that.

The second factor impacting his effectiveness is that our receivers are below average. Roy Williams is not a big-time playmaker. He hasn't made the type of catch and run Brandon Marshall made today (and when you're jealous of Brandon Marshall, you've got problems). Crayton is a JAG and Hurd and Austin need to step it up just to become JAGs. They struggle to get open consistently and appear to cross Romo up on enough routes that I don't think he has any faith in them. At least two of his four picks are on them.

I personally don't read anything into the faces Romo makes on the sidelines or his somewhat muted and cerebral approach to his own play when interviewed. To me, he's simply not on the same page with his marginally talented receiver corps and has missed too many passes on his own to carry the offense through the air when needed. He's been inaccurate and his receivers have done little to bail him out on anything but perfect passes.

Regardless, I'm thinking I need to lower my expectations for this team, which, to me, is much worse than the feeling I had when we lost a close game to the Giants.

Totally agree, it happens to all QB, But if he was rolling out of the pocket, or in a scramble mode... Romo would not be a sitting duck....

We don't need a theory to understand why Romo has not performed this year...all we need to understand is that "He fails under pressure - period!!!"

He makes the dumbest plays at the wrong times to give away games. Someone said their theory was "He Sucks"....well can't argue against that today.

I think he might be injured, but I dont think it just happened. His accuracy has been off since the season opener. I've never seen him miss this many open guys, at least not since his first training camp here. And he's missed alot of open guys in every regular season game.
