I think is the fans that are making him play bad.

The guy has got some talent thats going to waste. I never see Wade discussing anything with him, trying to settle him down, ect. Maybe the camera's dont show that. All I see after a mistake is him setting down with Garret looking at pictures of what happened or just by himself.

He needs a real head coach to keep his oops from overshadowing his ups.

Fine so he's Randall Cunningham or Jim Everett, a loser with stats.

Or Marino, or Kelly, or Dan Fouts, or......whats the point?
Romo has a higher winning percentage than all of them and i higher QB rating...... but i guess you will define winner by superbowls right?

Well how many of the greats won a superbowl in their first 2.5 years?
Elway, Aikman, Young, Montana?

But yea he must be over rated because you say so.

I honestly don't think he has the mental toughness to make it as a championship QB.

He has some of the worst body language I have ever seen in an NFL signal caller when he is struggling.

I'm also wondering if he hasn't developed a bit of a mental barrier that he's going to have to knock down. I'm not ready to give up on him though.

Jimmy Johnson always said that a player becomes what he is told that he is. This is the problem with Romo. Everyone keeps calling him a choker and he is becoming that now. Everyone started calling Ben Roethlisberger clutch starting last year and he has become that. I think the media is most definitely in Romo's head.

If the media can completely ruin him, he's not fit to be QB of the Dallas Cowboys. It's a high pressure position and going into a slump when people are down on you just won't cut it here. It just won't.

I sure as hell hope that isn't it.

Switching his foot mechanics last season to mimic Brady when he was likely coached to switch his reads at every step pair. Even though it wouldn't limit his ability to read a defense quickly, he could still be stuck in the habit of switching the read at every step pair, and combined with calming his feet, he unintentionally slowed down the speed at which he scans through all his progressions.

But only the coaches would know how he's being coached... obviously.

We are a slant passing team now. Watch the games over.

Parcells loved to throw it deep. Loved the 5 and 7 step drops.

Romo is shook, that's not a good thing.

Whatever it is, he's clearly regressed. I saw it at the end of last season, thought it may have gone away with preseason and the Bucs game, but saw it reappear in the NYG game. I highly doubt he gets it back, but people want to blame Garrett or the WR's (guys were open today, Romo didn't see them or threw a bad pass) or the defense, and not admit that they were wrong about him.

I think the Cowboys have to ask themselves 'has Tony Romo regressed and if so, how much has he regressed?' From what I see he has regressed a lot and I don't see him getting it back and I think they need to try and find a suitable replacement for him. YAKUZA

Can anyone here recall another QB that this happened to? I'm not talking about a hot QB that got injured and never regained form(Dante Culpepper, Jake Delhomme) I'm talking about a super star QB who had thrown for a ton of TD's early in his career only to see him lose all confidence and become a shadow of his former self. I cant think of any right now off hand.

Drew Bledsoe.

Sadly.

The rumor is that Romo is dating someone locally and she and her brother were at the game last week in which the Cowboys won, so again his poor play has nothing to do with who or who he is not dating.

Because it's unlikely to happen. Needs to be a catalyst. Injury or seriously deminished surrounding talent.

Who knows, maybe he's suffering some from both right now. Romo may turns things around quickly, or he may not. Even if this years goes south, it dosen't mean he couldn't bounce back strong in 2010.

Not sure what to think right now.

I agree with this statement 100%.

He needs to stop reading the papers and watching TV as well for he's trying so hard to keep from making the bad throw that he's trying to be too perfect. Watch the pass in which he got Roy lit up. In the replay, they show his eyes. Right after he releases the ball he looks to see where the safety is like he's expecting something bad to happen. If he has another bad game next week it will look like he's got the "Steve Sax syndrome".

I don't know what it is, but I do miss the Romo that we all fell in love with. The gunslinger with the incredible improvisational skills. Has he been overcoached? Is is his finger? Is it the receivers? Or the O-line?

I don't know exactly, but I still have faith in the guy. I really think he can play, and I still believe that he is the quarterback for this franchise. There is nobody else out there (that is readily available) that gives us a better chance of winning. He can be frustrating as hell sometimes but I still think he can get it done for us.

This post pretty much sums up my thoughts. The dude hasn't looked great so far this season, but I have seen too much from him in the past to give up on him like some on here seem to. I think this talk of "making no mistakes EVER!!" might be in his head. He just needs to go out there and play his game.

in no, particular order

A.) wrong offensive system...

Romo is a guy with a very, quick release, I remember Parcells' last year here, before Romo was entered in for Drew Bledsoe, how in the offseason, when they brought out the stop-watch, Romo was consistently getting the ball off around 3 seconds, while they had to hurry Drew Bledsoe

this system calls for alot of 5 step drops, waiting on long, developing pass routes, and barely any quick throws like slants

which brings me to

B.) his pointer finger...

this offense calls for a lot of touch passes, because timing is involved in every throw, I think Romo's finger is hindering his ability to make touch throws, as he can't get a good grip on the ball

C.) sloppy mechanics...

he throws off his back foot a lot, that leads to a lot of balls sailing

D.) tunnel vision...

I had it in basketball, my coach was constantly getting on me when I brought the ball up the court, where I would be so focused on getting to the basket, or getting the ball to the post, that I would miss a lot of open guys on the wing

seems Romo likes to zone in on certain receivers, and forgets to scan the field

E.) happy feet...

Romo has it in bunches, I think it's affecting the touch he puts on his throws, that if he took an extra half-second, or slowed his body just a little bit, he would be more accurate

I don't think ability has anything to do with his struggles at all, he's a supreme athlete, NBA baller Caron Butler raved about his basketball skills

I don't want to say he's stupid either, Bill Parcells said he is a very, bright guy

I think the solution is completely revamping the whole, offensive system:

more roll outs, more bootlegs, more running the football (even if it's not successful, hell, it seems like Red is looking for any excuse to start flinging the ball), more play action, more slants, more drag routes, take advantage of what Romo does best, which is get the football out there quickly, and have the D go one way, while he goes another with the football.

discuss

You are 100% correct. I just don't understand how an NFL coaching staff doesn't see it the same way most of us do.

Romo has never been a good pocket passer, Romo earned his fame, avoiding the rush, rolling out, extending plays, basically backyard football. Now Garrett has him trying to be Tom Brady like, and Romo does not have the experience at reading defenses like a Brady, or Brees. Romo is best when he is on the run, he has to be moving to make plays, more like a Steve Young type.

Romo is not playing Romo type football...

THIS!!!!!!!!! We need to give up on trying to make Romo a drop back pocket passer because he AIN'T that. He is what he is and since the Boys settled on him as their QB, they need to let him play to his strengths and deploy an offense that allows him to do so. We just have to take the risks that his type of play brings, along with the rewards. If not, why keep him?
