They cannot make the Lamb mistake again

Well, I can tell you what I'd be doing if I was the GM, I'd be fielding calls for not only Lamb or Gallup but every player on this team.

Does anyone here think the nucleus is here? Me neither, so everybody is on the trade table including the QB and I'd start over. The team is coming off, arguably, their worst season in history and with what that D did, it is the most embarrassing season.

If there ever was a time to blow it up and start all over again, this time couldn't be better. There are quite a few players that I'd like to see gone as I've had a really hard time liking many of these players.

I felt like Fisher did watching them celebrating while losing the game and it wasn't just that clown Smith, it was too many of them. It's not just this season that leaves that bitter taste in my mouth, it's this team.

Well, the nucleus appears to be there on offense. Perhaps a little tweak on OL pending their health. Defensively is looking like where a big influx of talent and perhaps better or at least new coaching and or schemes is needed.

But DE looks pretty good with DLaw and Gregory. Gallimore came on. Tristen could possibly still make an impact TBD. So DT is prob one of the needs.

LB with Jaylen is a question mark and Van Esch. Can he stay on the field and can Lee still contribute. I’d say LB another need. Secondary is also questionable with no real Safety in place. Diggs looks like a keeper but Awuzzie prob won’t be resigned . So CB also a need.

That’s 3 critical needs on defense which will be difficult to land in one draft but must start somewhere.

I’d also note that if the DL is fixed first then it could aide the secondary with lesser talent by causing more disruption and havoc at LOS.

Ultimately the defense is more of the start over scenario. I think I’d start with coaching first.

So what's wrong with going quantity in a deep draft and trading out since some other team might do you a solid to get that player.

One thing for sure, the D is not going to get any better until it is addressed.

The Cowboys did exactly what you describe in the 1998 Draft..... drafted Greg Ellis instead of Randy Moss. One is Hall of Fame WR and the other was JAG. You take CD Lamb 10 out 10 times. The Cowboys had a great 2020 draft

This is like the old Coryell teams in SD with Fouts and all stars at WR's, fun to watch but didn't get any trophies.

What some don't realize that what was considered the best offense in the game, The Greatest Show on Turf, had the #1 D the year they won the SB and it was the unraveling of that D that began their decline and Martz wanted his stars.

What other team does this bring to mind? Oh yeah, the 92 Cowboys with the Triplets and the #1D in the league with nary a pber on it. They were able to not only keep it together but add to it and win 3 out of 4 because they had that D. That vaunted Triplets offense didn't even lead the league in offense.

The difference Johnson would have made is that he would have never allowed the O to rule over the D on his team. That was the struggle he had in MIA, the best D killing QB of all time was Marino. He was a pick 6 waiting to happen and Johnson would have loved to have traded him but he was royalty.

The one and "ONLY" SB trophy hoisted by this current HC actually had a Defensive Player of the Year(Clay Matthews) leading an opportunistic defense that led the league in turnovers to FINALLY support all the heroics that Rodgers had been doing previously to support a one dimensional team.

After that ONE year, this HC NEVER fielded a defensive team that was even average. His team defenses were pathetic. Marinelli level playoff performance awful.

This HC wouldn't know what a good defense or a good coordinator looks like if it hit him in the face. And this Fantasy Football Front Office likes trying to play copycat offense to the latest sizzle trends.

Coach Jerry thinks Dak is Pat Mahommes Light. Remember Quincy was his next Michael Vick?

It will all come full circle once Moore is promoted. Moore is his McVay. Or his saving face Garrett Part II experiment.

I think when your team needs on defense are so plentiful, a fan's criticism of going WR with their first round pick is justifiable. Lamb is a great player, but it seems we are farther away from a championship team now than we were at this time last year.

He was a luxury, but there wasn't a defensive prospect there that was near Lambs talent.

Not a fair comparison since Moss had baggage that the Cowboys couldn't take on. And Ellis played and started for quite a few years, he became too much of a whiner but I wouldn't call him a JAG.

Grades don't matter, players that can help the team matter. And those grades are wrong every year.

When you combine the Lamb pick last year with the Amari Cooper trade for a 2019 first round pick, we essentially drafted WRs in the first round in back to back drafts. The problem isn’t that Cooper or Lamb aren’t talented. The problem is a fundamental misunderstanding at the top of this organization about how to build a roster.

Lamb is a super talented player no doubt. It’s just that his talent (as well as Cooper and Gallup) is squandered because their defense is so untalented and inept, it cancels out the value of having loads of talent at WR. TEAMS WIN, not individual players. That simple truth has escaped the Jones cartel for nearly three decades.

The 2 years before that the Cowboys drafted defensive players in the 1st (Taco and Vander Esch). The Cowboys need to get better on defense but to pigeonhole yourself to get defense no matter what isn't going to help. That being said at 10 we should be able to get one of the top corners. I wouldn't take any dline or lb prospects at 10 though.

I was thrilled the Cowboys got Lamb when they did. Truthfully though, I was disappointed they didn't move up to get Brown or Kinlaw. I know the many arguments against trading multiple draft picks to move up, but I was hoping for one of those two DT's early and often.

The case some make is the value of Lamb at 17. Was he not a value at 16, 15, 14, 13? Why did those GM's pass on him? Because they're GM's with their jobs on the line to improve the team, not take a bow for a draft pick.

Another case is what D player was worth that pick? Chaisson? The answer is any D player that could help the worst D in the league and worst in Cowboys history. He didn't have to be a world beater, just a player they could count on to be 1 of the 11.

1 of 11. How many do they have now? If they'd used that on a D player, might they be closer than they are now? And what if he doesn't work out? Then they'd know and keep going back to the well.

I saw all of the celebrating here when they took Lamb and few asking why was he available? Partly because most GM's were trying to fill needs and partly because they didn't have him at 6th on their board.

He was the Cowboys first pick and led them in drops and was 2nd in the league in drops but his fans here will make excuses for him. And WR is the most plentiful position in the league.

This draft should be the easiest for the Cowboys, if they go D as they should have last year. Their needs are plenty and the only position they don't need with that first pick is DE.

However, my greatest doubt about this team remains the same, they're just not good at talent evaluation and compound that by doubling down on some of their selections because they look at it from an ego standpoint. Sorry, and respect your opinion but overall BPA when he’s a top guy on your board is always the best move. It stops all the Tacos/LVEs of the world. Wound I take a WR in the top 10 if one shows up this year..no. But lower half of draft they needed talent. We need D and right now I take BPA on D..LB, DL, CB...anywhere. Lamb was an easy pick. He was a top player in the class playing with a backup QB most of season
