Yes, it was a mistake because it was all for flash and splash while bobbing around on the ocean, it was a pick for applause. It was all luxury for a team deep in needs.

The case some make is the value of Lamb at 17. Was he not a value at 16, 15, 14, 13? Why did those GM's pass on him? Because they're GM's with their jobs on the line to improve the team, not take a bow for a draft pick.

Another case is what D player was worth that pick? Chaisson? The answer is any D player that could help the worst D in the league and worst in Cowboys history. He didn't have to be a world beater, just a player they could count on to be 1 of the 11.

1 of 11. How many do they have now? If they'd used that on a D player, might they be closer than they are now? And what if he doesn't work out? Then they'd know and keep going back to the well.

I saw all of the celebrating here when they took Lamb and few asking why was he available? Partly because most GM's were trying to fill needs and partly because they didn't have him at 6th on their board.

He was the Cowboys first pick and led them in drops and was 2nd in the league in drops but his fans here will make excuses for him. And WR is the most plentiful position in the league.

This draft should be the easiest for the Cowboys, if they go D as they should have last year. Their needs are plenty and the only position they don't need with that first pick is DE.

The Lamb pick was a mistake and I had 0 doubt about that then or now. However, my greatest doubt about this team remains the same, they're just not good at talent evaluation and compound that by doubling down on some of their selections because they look at it from an ego standpoint. If it is mine, it must be good.

Lamb? No thank you, give me the beef!

What most of y’all are forgetting or not wanting to talk about is that Jerry and Steven, and probably Willy also, all thought this was the best Cowboys roster in the past 15-20 years. They all thought Lamb would put them over the top because we didn’t really have a weak spot on the team. Listen to them speak, they “loved their guys”. Y’all out to much thought into this. The Jones Boys, accompanied by the most over rated FO guy in NFL history (McCkay), are the worst at their positions in all of pro sports. They will never do what it takes to build a winning team.

Did I mumble? I thought I typed clearly.

I really don't care where my opinion falls, it is still my opinion and many here are acting as if Lamb was the draft pick of a lifetime. If you watched him play his college ball then you would know he was good at college open and breaking tackles with Big 12 DB's, see many of those broken tackles and that RAC this season?

In the long run, I will take Jeudy, Jefferson and Ruggs over Lamb and those comments about just wait until he's the #1WR, I will bring that back when he is because he's not going to be playing against the Big 12 or have Cooper and Gallup on the team. Lamb was not the opposing D's primary concern this season, that would be Cooper.
Well aside from the"word" mumble, my reply stands. Not sure where the suttle dislike for Lamb stems from, whether it be not liking the college he comes from or maybe you publicly stated you didn't like the pick up front and now you have to eat crow for it, not sure. You may wait til he is the #1 on the team but by then many factors come into play as to being better or worse so we go by the present.
Hopefully next year we trade down in first round for more picks and go all defense.

Hope you don't get upset when the boys take Patrick Surtain.

Nope. You're absolutely wrong, CC ol' buddy.

CeeDee Lamb is a generational player who the Cowboys lucked out he fell right into their lap. Cowboys had no choice but to take CeeDee. No other Defensive player available at that #17th spot was worth picking over CeeDee Lamb. None were generational talents like CeeDee is.

Ooh. Excuses.
Jefferson is clearly the better WR right now.
Sorry. He just is. Jefferson was the best player at that pick and his incredible rookie season proves that.
But, but, but Dak!!! LOL.
Yeah, I guess CD would have some more garbage time yards from “Stats” if he hadn’t broken his ankle.
Too bad CD dropped that pass WIDE OPEN with just a minute to go in the game yesterday.....
But he’s the best WR though....
LOL

Jefferson never dropped any passes right? As I recall he didn't light up Dallas when they played this year. I along with alot of fans are happy with the pick of CDL and if you like go cheer for the Vikings during their playoff push this year oh wait they didn't make it....so Jeffersons big stat year meant squat just garbage stats on a crappy team who didn't have four different QBs throwing the ball to him.

Was Lamb the right pick? Yes.
Did picking Lamb really hurt us this year? Also yes.

huh? Grades matter on the context of who they would’ve likely drafted in lieu of Lamb. Diggs sounds like he would’ve been in the mix. So could’ve drafted him in the first and who knows in the 2nd.
That might have been better depending on who they picked in the 2nd.

I don't dislike Lamb at all, he was one of my favorite players to watch in college. It wasn't a mistake with the player as much as the position.

If they're going to take a complimentary WR, Jefferson was a better choice. Lamb is Gallup. What I think happened is Booger sees the 6th player on their board slipping and starts getting wide eyed.

The best thing about the pick are the options this presents down the road with the WR's. They could keep either Cooper or Gallup along with Lamb but if that was me, I'd be checking the trade temp on Lamb. He had a good showing as the 3rd WR on a crummy team. Might there be a team willing to part with their #1 that is in need of a WR?

Who would you have taken who could have been as equal of an impact
Chaisson sure hasn’t been so far
Lamb was the right move
Passing a much more talented player to fill a need is why much of the top 10 teams picking each year remain the same for years

Say it loud for the folks in the cheap seats!!

Ok. Interesting stuff. But if you look at the most recent 3 drafts, it tells a different story. In 2017, our draft ranks 18th. In 2018, our draft ranked 9th, and in 2019 we ranked 27th. Those are hugely important b/c that shows you the quality of the guys working on rookie contracts which are the NFL's most valuable commodity. If you have quality starters working on rookie wages, that frees the cap up to invest in better players elsewhere. The cowboys have been duds in free agency so they didn't capitalize on the good drafting.
How much different would the 2019 draft grade look if they factored Cooper as a 1st round pick?

i am all for drafting for needs but you can not pass of talented players at other positions if they fall in the draft to your spot. lamb will be a need because in two more years gallup and cooper will not be affordable to keep so lamb will be the number one receiver and h will not cost alot for atleast three more season a win to me.

Lamb was by far BPA and value over the pick. If you look beyond one year's need, Lamb lets us wave goodbye to Gallup and maybe Cooper in 2022 with a legit WR#1. That's a big deal. We made the right pick.

Any analysis of the Lamb pick that only talks about 2020 is unserious.

1 of 11. Just better than what we had is just not nearly good enough to spend a 1st round pick on. If you want to argue against the Lamb pick, argue for taking the trade downs we were offered. At least that hypothetically could have been a better deal.

Wasn't any value there even close on defense. I wanted a top DT *worth* the pick. There wasn't one. Even worse this year.

Picking defense where we were at made no sense. Taking Lamb made lots of sense.

For you too young to remember the GREAT JERRY RICE dropped passes left and right his rookie season.

The 49ers, fresh off a victory in Super Bowl XIX, were 6-5 and fighting for their playoff lives. Joe Montana's passing numbers were off. Rice, the team's top draft pick, had 26 receptions in 11 games, but he also dropped 10 balls, some of them at the worst possible times. He was coming off a game in which he dropped two passes, fumbled once, and caught just one pass. Niners fans booed the rookie; local columnists made him the butt of jokes. Freddie Solomon, a respected veteran who caught touchdown passes in 10 straight games in 1984, had become the invisible man in the Niners offense while Montana and Rice played pitch 'n' drop.
But Walsh held his ground, supported Rice, and kept him in the weekly gameplan. "At some point, the boos will turn to cheers," predicted Walsh during a press conference on November 18th, 1985.

Some times, players just need time.

Cee Dee Lamb will be MUCH better next season. Watch!

a mistake is your opinion and very few agree anywhere..you can keep saying it it wont make it true..

no way you over pick Diggs in the first and see what happens in the second, you got major value at both picks..no way ONE different defender made difference this year over lamb.,

we got hit with the worst injurys bug ive ever seen watching the dallas cowboys since 1980..you cant cover that up with one player the season was lost once all that happened..

I think it's safe to say most posters disagree with your opinion.

The great thing about sites like this is we can all come together and discuss our favorite team.

The bad thing about site like this is we obsess about preconceived notions on how to make the team better. Some of us do it way too often. Sit back and enjoy the good things -- as limited as they were -- your team accomplished, such as drafting Lamb.
