Think Pollard stays on as 2?

Has any team won the SB in the salary cap era because they went all in at the RB position? The Cowboys sure haven't. Hard choices with the roster have to be made in the near future. I think you make a respectable offer to Pollard relative to your system and RB workload and prepare to move on from him. The team that makes him the feature back may experience a quick and steady decline in his production over the course of a few years. He has the perfect situation in Dallas and can play into his 30s at a high level barring injury in that system.

Pollard, Diggs, Parsons are the next big contracts I think are key. I'm an adovcate of the let RBs go and draft replacements, but I think I'd resign Pollard and cut Zeke I'd let Schultz walk, get a nice pick. I'd cut Zeke (the fans love him, so I'm leaning him staying in Jerryworld), but I think Davis or someone signed in the 3-4th rounds can replace Zeke on the cheap. I'd like to see Tyron stay, but I'd work hard at restructuring him with a more time played incentive based structure. Resign Maher.

4.8 cap savings - not my money on the cash side!
So you sink another 11 million down the drain? Makes zero sense to me. If you don't like the taste of your medicine do you just roll over and die?

I don’t think he stays anymore than Alvin Harper would have.

No position is more 2nd contract dependent than RB.

Pollard has a lot of light shining on him with more likely to come. And the RB role has increased in the NFL, his shot at the brass ring and he deserves that.

They would have to flip the order to keep Pollard and I do not see the GM doing that so it is back to the draft for a RB.
As long as he has mouths to feed he's leaving for more money.

I think he'll be looking for a payday, and I don't blame him. On the bright side, Malik Davis shows signs of being an adequate replacement, though with a different running style.

I think Pollard will be the price for signing OBJ.
I don't see us paying that much for OBJ. I could be wrong, but I think they let him go somewhere else if he wants more than he's worth.

That said, I'm not sure that leaves us enough to keep Pollard and take care of everyone else we need to take care of.

One thing working in the Cowboys' (and Zeke's favor) is he is not married yet. Typically when a guy gets married the wife starts spending every dime that comes into the joint bank account. And a lot of times she can't condition herself to spend less when the paychecks shrink. She's the one that gets in his ear and says: "Don't let them disrespect you like that, Baby!" She's the one that wants the bigger house.. the bigger diamonds.. and so on and so on. Guys want toys, but our toys typically don't cost millions of dollars like them big diamonds do. I know it's a sexist view.. but it's also an unfortunate reality.

Plus Zeke clearly comes from a family that laid a good foundation in him. His dad is still on the OSU staff and if you've ever heard him speak about the game you see where Zeke gets his attitude about it. And if you follow his mom on Twitter you can clearly see she's a smart lady too. I think Zeke will be t hat rare athlete who realizes that 50-60 million dollars is enough.. He's already got more money than he will spend in this lifetime.. Now it's time to go get some jewelry.. and I aint talkin about engagement rings.

I think I will not be concerned with this until late February or early March.

I am just focused on winning games.

But I have a feeling Zeke will restructure, take less $$$ and move some of that to Tony's contract to keep him.
Depending how successful in the playoffs also. Otherwise, wait until the time comes for me.
That's good, you focus on winning games. That's exactly what we need you for! :muttley:

..depending how the season ends. You know, the lasting taste of things.

Should Dallas go one and done in playoffs. I feel they let TP go, and groom Malik Davis.

In saying this, Zeke will have his situation restructured. I dont see him going anywhere

Should Dallas go deep, NFCCG Or SB.

I believe they pony up money to TP and keep the Tandem Duo. You know, Jones want that good lasting flavor to endure.

Davis is very talented.. He's kind of a smaller version of Zeke or a slower version of Pollard if you squint just right. But he's small by NFL RB standards. He was often hurt in college and at 205 pounds I don't see that getting any better in the pros.. He's got to put on some man muscle over the next couple of seasons before I would trust him to play extended snaps. I would say at least 10 more pounds..

Yes, the Cowboys have. Emmitt Smith was signed to - at the time - a massive extension in 1993, the very first year of NFL free agency.

Since when does ego not come into play?

Pollard started over Elliott Sunday and Booger had to make it about a disciplinary action with Elliott, not based on Pollard’s merit. Think Pollard is OK with that?

Pollard was a RB2 at Memphis and then Dallas, I think he has his eye on RB1.
I think Pollard is fine with that. They have a system, where Zeke starts the game and Tony changes things up, and it works well that way. As long as they don't insult him in the contract negotiations, I think Pollard would be satisfied with things the way they are.

NO he hasnt, not a heavy volume back or player..

so NO, I saw Kamara and Cmac which is Pollard's comp decline after they got paid and are not as explosive or the same player they were when they split time with other backs. so if Pollards splitting time, hes not a 12m $ back and from Hs thought the NFL never had a heavy load or been starting RB sorry man.. care more.12m is mistake IMOP..you use him up FT him , use Malik and draft another RB.. I luv the guy but not at 12m.. Maybe 10m is fair but hey IM not the FO..you can draft him to your FF and use him on Madden, in the real world of the cap i cant see him making 12m.esepcially with KM as our OC..

Ill leave that up to the FO. that my thoughts and wont debate further.
Wrong comps those are$15-16M RBs CMC n Kamara...see that's why I don't care what somebody like you says. Aaron Jones is Pollard's comp, Playmaking RB not asked to carry the load...there's a place for that type type of player. Lastly, there is no debate cause you don't know what your talking about...I'm educating ignorance.

Yeah Emmitt was made the highest paid RB in NFL history on that 1993 contract.. after which the Cowboys won two more Super Bowls..

I should also mention that the guy who Emmitt passed as the highest paid RB in the league that time, Thurman Thomas, went to four straight Super Bowls.

But no one is talking about "going all in at the running back position anyway." Most logical fans acknowledge that it doesn't make sense to pay both backs 12 million a year. And the Cowboys won't have to. I suspect they can get Zeke to restructure to somewhere in the 7-8 range and can sign Pollard to a 4 year deal that averages out to something which will set him up for life as well. Zeke has already gotten his "bag" and nothing I have seen from him the last four years suggests that he would begrudge TP getting his. If they keep both guys for a cap number under 20 million a year to me that's a win. Besides, by the time Pollard's contract talks heat up the Cowboys might be in the middle of parade planning..

Wouldn’t you be saying all the rights things playing for the 2nd contract?

The owner has to give his blessing for a changing of the guard at RB. Usually, the HC makes that call.
Heck yeah I would be saying all the right things:muttley:

Zeke will restructure, Tony will stay. Its working great right now and should extend both of their careers if they play it right...

I don't care about what the zone narrative is. TP is more than a RB he's a Playmaker. Pollard hasn't carried the team this year? Do you need opportunity to show you can carry a team? Are you doubting one of the Top 3 explosive RBs in the league with very little tread?

I'm not hearing it. $12M is reasonable for a Playmaker.
Also, he did carry the team while Zeke was out, and did an admirable job of it.
