Think there's any possible way the Cowboys could trade up for Matt Leinart next year?

Matty will go to Cleveland book it. Also Drew Brees is your next QB for the Dallas Cowboys.

Maybei FF, Rivers would come here before Brees does

I have heard some things that indicate that personality wise Leinart has some questions. I am thinking he could be the next Ryan Leaf.

No way trade up for Leinert. The Cowboys need alot more help on the OL then at QB or any position. We need to draft a top Center. Since we will probaly pick #20 or later there is a good chance we will get that done.

I know using a 1st rounder on OL is not as fun. We have fixed the DL and now the OL needs it. We improve the OL like we did the DL then we control the line on both sides and thats what we need.

I have said it before. I will be very happy with a draft if BP ends up taking 2 offensive linemen on day 1 of the draft.

Now if a steal at LB or FS should fall to us then I say go for that.

As for QB. Give Henson another year or 2.

I like what Henson has over Leinart. Henson is stronger and more athletic. Leinart has a ok to maybe good arm but there are throws Henson can make that Leinart never will make. Leinarts arm strength is not even close to Hensons. When Henson finally comes around he will be a very good QB.

Ever hear of Drew Henson... ? What do you think we're doing with him? Sitting Him... Drew H didn't have to come in and automatically be a Roger Staubach, or Troy Aikman... Hell Delhomme sat for four years didn't he... Todd Bouman played some good minutes in Cleveland I think, maybe Minnesota... now he's second string in NO... Geez I don't want a QB yet people... You ready to cast away Bledsoe after he threw 3 TDs last week... Remember NFC offensive player of the week??? :star:
First, nice avatar.

Second, that's a great post. Too often overlooked. Impatience, what can I tell you?

As much as I would love to have Matt Leinart I gotta say that unless we totally tank this season I don't want us to get him.

I think he'll be a great QB, but paying too high a price is just dumb. Look at the Commanders. I like Jason Campbell as a QB but the price they paid is just stupid. They should have waited to take him in the 2nd round and if he happened to have gone so what. He was not the only QB they could have drafted who would help them.

I am pretty sure the top 10 draft pick they gave up in 2006 would help them. That doesn't even take into account the 2005 picks they gave up.

Essentially we'd be doing something similar and it would be just as stupid. He's a great player. I'd love to have him. No player is so valuable that price doesn't matter.

Okay, lets say we finsh 10-6 and that lands us a pick at say...22.

To get to #1 it would take our ENTIRE DRAFT plus a #1 next year at least!

Let's destroy two drafts for a guy that is just as likely to be Leaf as he is Manning, plus the impact on the cap would limit any big name FA, unless we want to start playing cap roulette again.

We are another year away from even considering taking a QB in round one, much less trading away two drafts to get him.

At least?

I think someone's exaggerating a wee bit.

the thing that impressed me about Leinert is that he plays in a pro-style offense, under an old pro coach, but his READS BEFORE THE SNAP set him apart from his peers.
Yes we need to see what Henson has and he needs at least another year,
yes we need OL help in the very near future,
but I think Leinert is about as close to a sure thing at QB as you can get. Dude just wins at a big time program under the big lights in the big game EVERYTIME.
Is there a price too high for a franchise QB? We could've put our '92-95 teams around any of our last 7 QBs and been lucky to make the playoffs. I can think of a stack of teams right now that without their QB, they're not playoff teams.

As for future, no thanks to McNeal, how many big games has he won? How does A&M's passing scheme rate compared to other big program passing schemes? Its pretty simple. He's a good college player but I don't see him as anything more than an NFL backup.
Vince Young, he better stay in school. He's a freak athlete, with a great arm, makes a good amount of good throws, but he turns the ball over and over and over either fumbling or tossing it up for grabs. I don't see his ability to read defenses being in the same universe as Leinert's. Texas and its coaches just try to outmuscle people with bigger and better athletes. Works fairly well in college. Doesn't seem like UT has the passing scheme to get Vince's pocket skills to the next level though I'm sure some team will snatch him up early when he does come out.
Brady Quinn is the dude, esp with another year under the new coach. Maybe in '07. Kid's got moxie.

#1 pick is worth 3,000 points, picking at #22 our entire draft is worth 1476.

600 for 2007 #1 we are still 1,000 short.;)

The 20's to #1 is a 3 first round draft pick move AT LEAST.:D

Sorry, I was thinking more along real world scenarios.

Hey, I think I could Minnesota 2nd pick of my next litter for Duante Culpepper right now.

So was I, unless we earn the #1 pick ourselves no trade up is ever going to happen.

349 passing yards
5 TDs
100 rushing yards
1 TD
No turnovers

The man is faster than Mike Vick (yes, he is faster than Mike Vick) and has an NFL arm.

Dont i remember you wanting Omar Jacobs? Then i said i wanted McNeal but wanted mind Jacobs, then you was like id be happy with McNeal also but i would rater have Jacobs and how McNeal isnt as polished. Ive been preaching McNeal up for awhile now, please bring him in, even though i doubt we will, we wont draft a QB for as long as Parcells is here.

I want either one, but so far this year McNeal looks much better than Jacobs

7 total TDs and almost 750 yards of total offense through 2 games is simply amazing

I don't think that was the question posed.

Interesting question TB. I don't know what to think about our QB position at this point--- I really don't. I don't know how Bledsoe is going to make out this year. Don't know the real potential of Henson or even Romo for that matter.

The asking price would be incredibly high and I'm quite frankly still scarred from the whole "Joey Galloway" fiasco. I think when you "have" to get a guy you're setting yourself up for some bigtime hurt.

This team isn't far from being a legit SB contender. Give the kids on defense some time to figure it out. And some consistent play out of QB and we're close. But we still lack quality depth at several positions and others are getting old. I would just as soon use our first three picks in next year's draft to shore up those potentially weak areas and let the draft "come to us" as opposed to forcing anything.
I like your thinking! The greater the hype on players, the greater the bust. That said I like Matt Leinert alot but also do not want to give up the farm to get him.
