Just remember you said that when he is lighting up the NFL years from now, like A. Rodgers is.

Good player. but he is no Matt Barkley. Barkley will turn out to be a great NFL QB.he will be the A. Rodgers of this draft 2 years from now. the teams that pass on him will be kicking themselves. mark my word. if the Cowboys pass, it will be a big mistake.

No offense, but your comparison to Roger is absurd. Rodgers was viewed as a guy with a huge arm. Barkley couldn't even hit his throws during his pro day. I'm my opinion, Barkley is a terrible pro prospect and will have a career similar to Colt McCoy and Trent Edwards.

Did you think A. Rodgers was worth the 20th pick(where we drafted Marcus spears) how did that turn out for us?

Are you making this thread because 8 years later you see Rodgers owning the league or did you think on draft day in 2005 that we made a horrible mistake? I am thinking this is soley based on what you know now. You had no idea that Rodgers would turn out to be a stud and that Spears would be considered ineffective for us. Not to mention, Rodgers would have been thrown to the wolves with us. He sat on the bench for years holding a clipboard for Brett Favre.

Lemme put it this way. The odds of us drafting Matt Barkley this year are just about the same as THIS GUY winning the starting Free Safety gig for us,........and he's DEAD! :D

Not too worried about us drafting Barkley.

Also I clearly remember how several mocks had Rogers rated #1 overall right up to the draft that week. There are pretty much 0 people saying that about Barkley now. Even last year it was not as discussed as Rogers was in the past.

Do you think Matt Leinart was worth the 10th pick? Would you have drafted him at 18?

Do you think Mark Sanchez was worth the 5th pick? Would you have drafted him at 69?

To me, that door kinda swings both ways when your talking about USC QBs. I mean, there is a really long list of guys who came from USC to play QB in the NFL that have just not panned out.

Mark Sanchez
John David Booty
Matt Leinart
Matt Cassel
Carson Palmer
Kyle Wackholtz
Rob Johnson
Todd Marinavich
Pat O'Hare
Rodney Pete
Paul McDonald

Now, that goes back over 30 years, to 1980. Of that list, how many of those guys can we say have actually turned out to be great QBs?

Carson Palmer is probably the closest I think but can we really say he was Great? Maybe pretty good? Rob Johnson and Rodney Pete, maybe good?

Has ANYONE besides you claimed that a USC QB surrounded by arguably the best talent in college football- at least on offense- is in any way shape or form COMPARABLE to Rogers?

Dude, hindsight is 20/20 and you could say that about so many past draft picks, you are never wrong looking back and change draft picks...stay current, in this draft and right now no, Barkley isn't worth 18th overall pick.

barkley reminds me of sanchez but with a better arm. i would not take barkley until the bottom first or top second. i do not think that barkley would work with garretts offense we have to many deep patterns that barkley struggles with.

Im reading all you naysayers on Barkley. im taking your names so when i turn out right about this, you can not say you said no to drafting him. A. Rodgers was drafted in the 20's which is a joke. and he did not have a rep of a strong arm.thats why the 49ers took Alex Smith instead of him. bad mistake by the 49ers, but they have overcame it.we can't overcome it if we screw up again.

Maybe if we drafted Barkley FOR ANOTHER TEAM and they picked a player for us, and we worked out a trade and we get another of their picks or something. Think that's been done before.

This is not true. When Rogers came out, the book on him was that he came from a Jeff Telford so he was well coached and had a Pro Arm. Could make all the throws. The knock on him was that he was a bit immature, which I think was true, and that he was a bit undersized at 6'2" 210 lbs. (and there were rumors that he he might even be shorter, like 6'0. Also, that he came from a Telford offense and in those were thought to be QB friendly systems. Lots of QB prospects had posted huge numbers but they didn't pan out in the NFL.

The 9ers didn't really want to take a QB 1st. They tried to trade out but they could not. They were forced to take a QB and Smith was the best fit for them and their WC, which is what they ran at the time. For all we know, he might have but the coaching changed and the offensive scheme changed and as a result, Smith also had to change.

That is not how i remember it. i remember people saying Rodgers did not have the arm. and everyone thought he was a west coast offense QB.let's not rework history.

He will not be there in the 2nd round.we either get him in the first, or we don't get him.

I wouldn't even want his noodle arm in the 2nd much less at #18

I actually think Barkley will be fine with a decent O Line and running game in a WCO. He is smart, RKG, and a student of the game. I just have my eye on bigger fish. The comparisons to other USC QBs are dumb. Leinart loved the NFL life and not the game. Not a Sanchez fan but had no receivers last year and I dont think the guys around him played hard when the wheels started coming off.

Here are the QB matches I hear most often from NFL sources: Bills-Geno, AZ-Glennon, JAX-Nassib, PHI-Manuel…for what it's worth.

One other QB note-- I'll be surprised if Arizona QB Matt Scott makes it out of the 3rd round. He has several teams interested.
