The execution argument should be taken away with good coaching. That alone defeats your last paragraph but commend you on the support. In all honesty, breaks SHOULD have gone JG's way to get him a couple of wins, even with his conservative gameplan. The problem, and has been for far too long, is he didn't adust. You adjust to not having your starting QB. You adjust to shorter, comfortable routes that should help the QB. We saw none of that in Romo's absences. Where was the short passing game scheme for Weeden to succeed? When he failed, where were the comfortable passes designed for a QB needing to get comfortable? We didn't see any of that. We saw run on 1 and 2 and hope for someone to make a play. Get out in front Garrett! You don't have to settle for that. How bout a motion flat to Beas that isn't on 3rd and short? A Dez rub against the middle? He had opps. He never took them You can't teach cojones.
I try not to get into the 'we don't make adjustments' debates, because we obviously do make adjustments just like very team in the league. What people are really saying is 'we don't make adjustments I want to see!' I don't think the issue with Garrett is that he's too conservative. I think he's conservative when he doesn't think he's got a personnel advantage. When he's got the matchup he wants, he (and Tony) will go for broke. When he thinks he's got the ability to man up and get a 3rd and short, he'll go for it. We saw it last year and everybody was going around saying how much he'd changed. Really, he's just built his philosophy around avoiding bad plays. If he doesn't think he's got an advantage, he's not taking the chance. Fans hate it, it makes for boring football when the team's not good enough, but he's not going to change. I don't like watching it, either, much, but I understand why he does it and I think he's probably right.
As for the rest of it, you know, if he's got players in position to win the games as it is and they're just not making the plays, I just can't put that on the coaches. I know they can do things like bench players for drops and the like, but again that gets hard to do when you're hit by a rash of injuries or have suspension issues. There are situations where it works, and then there are situations where you're just better off playing the personnel you've got because the drop-off is too significant. Leary, you can replace. Terrence Williams? Who you got?
