This year we should be prepared for the hardest sales pitch we've ever seen

We all know Jerry Jones could sell sand in the desert. There is no doubt he is as gifted a businessman and salesman there is. But his playoff record also shows he is not a GM who understands how to put a championship roster together in the salary cap era. We have receipts.

The 28 straight seasons with not even a divisional playoff win and somehow JJ is still running this team with a tight grip has decreased fan base optimism like never before.

Don’t take my word for, there is a recent fan base survey that shows exactly that. A survey conducted this summer by the pay site The Athletic (why I can’t link it) shows that only 19.9% of Cowboys fans are optimistic about the 2024 season. That’s 31st in the league, only behind giants fans. Wow! So JJ and SJ clearly know after the most embarrassing playoff loss in team history last January, and the evidence in this survey that this Cowboys fan base is as angry and frustrated as I have ever seen it.

Here is a link to a Sports Illustrated article that is free on this topic: https://www.si.com/nfl/cowboys/news/dallas-cowboys-fans-pessimistic-entering-season-opener#:~:text=Despite%20winning%2036%20regular%20season,%2DO%2DMeter'%20poll.

As a result, we have seen and will continue to see a full court sales press by Jerry and Stephen. It’s one reason why JJ sat down for a long interview with Stephen A Smith. It’s why Stephen Jones is already carnival barking on his weekly radio show. He says the same things every year, he’s just using all the sales talking points earlier than usual. Expect the sales pitch to reach fever pitch early this season. I actually think JJ and SJ know the fans are fed up with them and that their credibility is on thinner ice than ever before.

Some will call this “pessimistic” or a downer, or “whining” but it’s just the reality of being a Cowboys fan right now. All this can change very quickly if the Cowboys have great season that includes winning at least a couple of playoff games. As a 60 year Cowboys fan, that’s what I deeply want.

Winning, especially in the playoffs, cures all ills. So advice to JJ and SJ: The only sales pitch that will work now is playoff wins (plural)
The adage is, that winning cures everything. Forgiveness starts with action, not words.

They have a good team and have built a winner. Yes, the Cowboys are a contender. 12 win teams are a contender
no teams that actually "contend" are contenders.
Dallas hasnt contended in the last 3 12 win years.

Weven been talking on these forums for a long time. I appreciate the time and thought you put into your posts. BUT.... damn, can you even look forward to this weekend, or do you have a big poster on your door as you enter your house each day with a huge 28 on the door? Just to remind you to not ever get a smile on your face?

Serious question. Are you excited about Sunday?
Not as excited as used to be . I still get excited about the NFL and football season in general as I watch 4-6 games at a time on Sat and 3 on Sunday afternoon in my sports cave . About 25-30 hours a week from Thur-Mon. Nothing I enjoy more than football season.

I’ll be attending Friday Night Lights following my Alma Mater and a few other key matchups. And I already have some College Football trips planned and my Alma Mater as well but attending Cowboy games isn’t a pursuit I can get excited about anymore. While I still watch every game and root us on its more of an Apathetic mode as Jethro has burned my passion almost to the ground .

It’s definitely a mixed bag of feelings as I look around my sports cave marveling at a lifetime of sports passion with memorabilia dominated by the Cowboys which they were the center of for most of my life. But not anymore. I’m much more excited about the rest of games I’ll be watching. Sad but It is what it is .

Jethro has ruined my Cowboys experience which I worshiped and planned my life around for over 4 decades as a season ticket holder and member of Dallas Cowboys Travel Club attending close to 400 games including playoffs and Super Bowl.

I still have hope we’ll get lucky one season but there is some consolation if he never achieves it this era. A double edged sword of sorts. Something Couch Coach and I used to talk about. My greatest hope is out living the old #ucker. That’s when our greatest hope for a new era will begin.

And yes , it will be different. For those who aren’t old enough to recall the class franchise we were for our first 29 years. Yes, the old fool brought us some glory with Jimmy. We appreciate that. And if he’d continue that role he could have been a great owner. But no one gets a pass for life. And no fans I know personally including opposing fans would want him as an owner this era.

Part of being a dedicated and loyal fan much like being a good caring and responsible citizen is speaking out against those leaders which aren’t providing the direction which is in our best interest.I’ll always be proud of standing firm with thousands of former season ticket holders from Texas Stadium who refused to make the move. And why I originally joined Dallascowboys.com 17 years ago to speak out against our owner encouraging fans not to buy season tickets and PSL’s. And everything since has pretty much transpired as we were concerned about.

It sickens me that we still have some fans who defend or support him. And we can continue supporting the players and team while calling him out. Much like we can support our servicemen and love our country while not supporting our leadership, policies or direction.

The fans much like the people ultimately have the power to force change. Jethro has some concerns and why he continues blurting out his blatant rhetoric. The fact he says he’s the only one who can save us is a great example of his narcissistic mentality which up until now he’s successfully crammed down our throats. We can make the Cowboys great again but it will have to be without him.

Playoff wins = what matters.
That’s a big part of it. But it’s become more than that.

Even if we were to finally break thru one season it won’t forgive what he’s made of our once proud and respected football franchise.

its not optimism, its just not accepting as fact things you dont know. You talk of Jerry's micromanagement... but fish says Jerry isnt nearly as involved in the details as people think. All of you faughn over Will McClay..... but why? If Jerrry is such a micromanager, why would we care if we have will or not?
Will is nothing more than a gloried talent scout. He’s not making GM and personnel decisions.

It’s why he’s not interested in going anywhere to be a GM. He has no pressure or responsibility for the teams success. He’s just providing scouting reports and analysis for us to choose from. Helping keep us afloat.

While Jethro only has time to be a part time GM as most spend 70-80 hours a week doing it including watching film which our GM has admitted it’s not something he does much of . And his son basically handles managing the cap and contracts. And advising his dad .

We don’t really have a full time GM. I’m not even sure if Stephen is a full time VP. Our franchise is missing the type of leadership most teams operate by. It’s a tremendous disadvantage and obstacle to overcome.

To their credit they’ve had a couple Franchise QB’s which basically fell into their lap which has provided enough to build a relative and interesting team which can contend for playoffs but not enough to be more serious contenders . And Jethro has done an excellent job of hyping his iconic brand and selling hope .

But that’s waining finally. Unfortunately the fix is in with PSL’s and season tickets with nowhere to go but broker their seats out. And Jethro doesn’t appear to care if his stadium is filled with opposing fans .

I waved my white flag years ago. It’s gone exactly like we predicted with new stadium. There’s really no other way to bring about the change needed without empty seats at the stadium . Oh well. Like my mom used to say. We made our bed , we will have to sleep in it.

What does no SB in 28 years have to do with anything? Either you‘re a fan or not. They deserve criticism for sure but not 365x24x7. That’s the difference.
Where did I say they deserve criticism 24/7. I give them credit where due. I've given them credit for a lot of things this offseason even though I think they could have signed a major player t out them over the edge and didn't even attempt it and signing Zeke and doubling down on him as a quality #1 was ridiculous

Great post,as for me,I will be glad if we win, but also, knowing that whatever our record is it won't mean a damn thing come playoff time,if we even get there..this team has killed my enthusiasm and joy of being a cowboys fan.Never in my life would I have imagined me saying that... there's no joy in mudville.

The joke may be on you.
LoL, even if they will have some play off success the joke won't be on him. After almost 30 years of perfect clowsmanship one or two play off wins won't tell a different story. Only a Superbowl win would erase some of that.

Haze I want you to screenshot this that Coog said this, I've said it earlier in the summer we will be BETTER somehow than people think. We will be better with doing LESS than we've done. The football God's will be on our side I just see it for some reason. Record might not be 12 wins, but I think we will get more playoff wins/hell even win the Superbowl (Yes I said it, not being a homer) Yes I say what I say on here, but this is my gut feeling

That old fool knows how most fans feel about his failure to put a championship team together. Even he privately admits it but knows better than to hire a real competent GM and HC. His defenders amazingly still dumb enough to make excuses for him. Thinking that if miraculously the Cowboys win a SB now, it will validate this joker and his son.

Yeah right, this year is different …SMDH

I was face painted with two of my daughters at our last SB win. I was well aware this could be it for a while, so we went all out. I am well aware of the drought. BUT, even if we had won the SB last year, I would be no more excited for the start of this season than I am right now. I have been a lifelong Sixers fan(Dr J, what can OI say) and guess how long it has been since they have won a title? Since 1983, now I am not good with mat, but I think that is 41 years. And guess what??? They have had real people running that team.

I have been a lifelong Cincinnati Reds fan, and they havent won a title since 1990 (Chriso Sabo, We kicked their ***!!!) that is 34 years, and yes, they too have real people running the team.

For me, each season starts new. Last year doesnt matter. Its the ups and downs, the last second wins and losses that get the blood pumping. You dont get to be pessimistic all season, then they put a run on and win it and then get to go back and enjoy it.

You all make it like Jerry does a con job on us each season. Well guess what, when Jerry dies, you will still approach each season the exact same.

I can, I haven't forgotten about the dynasty in the 90s he helped give us.
No one has forgotten but there’s a reason we did. He stayed out of the way with Jimmy.

Jethro shouldn’t get a pass for life.
