This year's running game is better

"gazillion"....??? wow so now it is up that high ?? lol
it was fair market value, and less than what they paid crawford, who was the one overpaid.
Would rather have given that money to murray and replace crawford.

also had they kept murray romo would not have got hurt in philly.
The whole course of events would have been changed, so good chance romo makes it thru the year.

It took dallas half the season to find the right rb and get run game going good, that isnt good.

They should have signed murray, and signed dez back up in april, so they could keep him in shape and in all the activities etc, and maybe he
doesnt get hurt either.

Yes it's always better management to let an emerging 25 year old defensive tackle for a 28yo running back who is averaging a whopping 3.5 yds a pop this year.

NOPE!

And now the reality:

The Cowboys running game is finished by halftime, They lack the stamina, intensity, and power to impose their will on opponent defenses. Instead, they surrender.

This season the Cowboys are one of only two teams that have not scored a TD running the ball in the 2nd half.

One of the things the 7-game losing streak demonstrated was that your running game doesn't matter much if you can't pass.

And the running game won't help the pass if your among the last in the league in using play-action..

thing I don't get is why they are not using Turbin more he gets a first down with two carries ?

its got me baffled ?

today didn't help your theory
Unfortunately, your running game only complements your passing game, it can't rescue it. The last time we faced a defense comparable to Carolina's was the Lions in the playoffs last year. We didn't win that game by running the ball, and we weren't going to win this one that way either.

There will be even less play action with Cassel, if his four starts are any indication. Small samples, but his pass rating is 20 points lower with play action, Romo's was 35 points higher.

I believe last year, even with Romo, we were around 27. Prior to that, with Garrett in total control we were 31st.

So not only do we rarely create mis-matches via motion of our WRs we don't force the DBs to even hesitate on the routes with the threat of the run.

The three picks he threw in the opener against the 9ers were all off play action, then he ended up leading the league in passer rating, so that ranking was probably a good thing.

He threw some pretty awful picks last night and that 9ers game last year, he also didn't play training camp and came off that surgery. I'd attribute that more to rust than anything else.

I don't think Romo is that inept off throwing the ball off play-action, like that's his kryptonite.

During TOs incredible stretch run with Romo in 2007, TO was motioned everywhere. Then it essentially stopped and we haven't seen much motion at all since, 2008 and onwards even with guys like Dez.

I have stated many times over stats are cute little numbers that don't tell the whole story.

Again that point is made clear by this team's play.
Posts like that are as easy (and as inevitable) as sneezing, but know that a team's rushing numbers will never tell the whole story. You have to be able to pass and stop the pass to have success.

I don't think so either, but it's hard to complain about not enough play action passes when the guy wins a passing title.

Maybe you're right, and with more PA, he'd have won it going away.

Percy, you put in a lot of work on these stats. I know gathering them is a passion for you. But they NEVER tell the whole story. And in the running game issue, they are as out of step as they were defending Romo when he would throw critical and sometimes season ending interceptions a few years back.

There is always more to the story than a number.

I'm not complaining about Romo. I think it's just a testimony to his greatness that he's put up the numbers with such inept coaching and the "philosophical" approach he's had in the offense.

I trust my eyes more than gathered numbers. You can make numbers fit any agenda. Just gather the right ones and leave the others out.
