Garrett is going to know most defenses in the league since he goes against them. But he's not going to know all the ins and outs. I applaud his willingness to get the whole enchilada.

Only in Dallas do we applaud people that do their jobs the "right way". I mean come on, really?

How in the world can Jason not know his own defensive coverages?

Some red flags:
- Switched schemes from 34 to 4-3 because it would be "easier" to learn - does this not include coaches too?
- Jerry has multiple times publicy addressed the fact that Jason needs to be a walk around HC, including spending more time with the defense...what happened to that 2 seasons ago?

No wonder we Red has issues with adjustments after half time, he can't read a defense...haha. What a joke, stop making excuses for this bum.

I'm just going to throw this out there.

Maybe the Owner shouldn't tell the head coach how to do his job. Maybe that's the actual problem in Dallas.

No doubt, but at any level of play any HC should know their own defense.

Yes. Rod is the only one to go 0-16.

Tell me, if Rod was coaching the Commanders defense would you be taking about how you saw some relic coach go 0-fer and turn out okay or would you simply be laughing that the 0-16 Detroit loser is in D.C.?

I don't think the Marinelli team that went 0-16 has anything to do with our team first. And no I wouldn't laugh at Marinelli if he were in DC. I leave that crap for others.

Maybe he does and you merely think what you do because.......

Not every nuance unless that's his thing which it ain't for Garrett. That's why there are experts on both sides of the ball.

Odd for someone that is a stickler for details.

...but that's none of my business.

What doesnt give me hope about the eagles is they kicked the bears butt and gave the saints a game in the playoffs. Granted brees played like crap but still. Those 2 teams embarassed dallas.

I was trying to convey that if this year is not a success....I think some hailing marinelli now will be ready to remember 0-16. He is an easier scapegoat than houck Ryan,Callahan, or kiffen

I don't have a problem with that. I think a lot of people will be nominated for scapegoat. I don't think anyone is safe.

I don't think many have ever known both sides of the ball that well. Landry is the exception. Maybe we're thinking different degrees of knowledge.

Good post, I expect the defense to be better than most folks expect.

There's no reason to believe that Garrett's any worse defensively than other coaches are at their off sides of the ball. It's not about being a stickler for details.

Say again? Maybe he does what?

Or did you mean maybe he doesn't? In that case, Jerry has openly talked about his hands on management with his head coach. He's a lunatic. He has to micromanage everything.

Whether Jerry meddles with every aspect of this team isn't up for debate on any Cowboys forum that wants to be taken seriously.

Anyone who makes a statement like this that if you oppose their view you aren't quite right is dealing in oppositional thinking, splitting, 'all or nothing' thinking and dichotomous thinking.

Whether or not Jerry is a micromanager doesn't really have anything to do with Garrett's knowledge of the defense or the defense outside the talent on the team Jerry is responsible for. So not buying into the strawman argument. I'm not interested in how much Jerry gets into areas he should be less involved with nor how much or how often he does it. I don't really know nor do you. I think he meddles too much but I only think that when some one brings it up. But that's not the topic of debate.

He was the Head Coach under a GM that used three consecutive 1st round picks on WRs and 4 total 1st round picks on WRs.

Here are Millen's drafts during Marinelli's tenure:
(I think the only defensive players that remained with the Lions a couple of years after Millen was gone are Avril and Fluellen.)

2008
Cherilus, Gosder (from Min through KC) OT
Dizon, Jordon LB
Smith, Kevin(from Mia) RB
Fluellen, Andre(from Cle) DT
Avril, Cliff(from Dal) DE
Moore, Kenneth(from Mia through KC) WR/PR
Felton, Jerome(from NO) FB
Cohen, Landon DT
Campbell, Caleb(from NO) LB
2007
Johnson, Calvin WR
Choice to Buf
Stanton, Drew(from Buf) QB
Alama-Francis, Ikaika(from NO) DE
Alexander, Gerald(from Bal) S
Choice to NO
Choice to Bal
Choice to Jax thru Bal
Davis, A.J.(Choice from Arz thru Oak) CB
Ramirez, Manny G
Choice to StL
Choice to NO
