Thoughts and opinions about last night's Super Bowl!

-Thought the Chiefs were badly outcoached, more undisciplined team
-When a defense plays shell coverage, the way to beat it is to run the football against the light box, they ran the ball just 6 times in the 1st half.
-Chiefs playing their Guard at left tackle finally caught up to them, thought Josh Sweat was the best rusher on the night and earned a big payday this offseason.
-Did an excellent job containing Barkley, but allowed too many rushes to Hurts that got them out of long situations.
-Defensive penalties, ball 3 feet over the head and defender has to hit the guy in the head, Bolton with a personal foul when it's 2nd and 20.

-I think the media can now pipe down says Mahomes is the goat. Two terrible super bowl performances in similar fashion. Not sure many are old enough to have seen Montana, but he never lost, period, just like Jordan. I laugh at people who think Lebron is better, same goes with Brady. Montanta/Jordan never lost and were the reason why they won!!
- Reid abandoned the run early .. Chiefs don't have a staunched run game .. it's more methodical and grindy, but at least give Mahomes a leaning shoulder to cut the long yardage in half .
Reid had a porous re-shaped OL unit coming into the SB, and he's suffered a reg. game where he previously abandoned the run and almost got his QB killed, ..and in the most key game the usual stellar
HC didn't learn from it.

- Hurts also used the mass attention on Barkley to set up play action and got some huge downfield plays vs Spags secondary. -whether it was zone or man ...
- Kellen devised some designs vs KC Zone that created some confusion - ala LB Bolton vs wr A. brown en route to TD .

- I agree Philly coaches clearly outdid Reid & Spags... - (and take no credit away from QB Hurts), ..and DC Vic Fangio and that incredible Philly defense !!

- And remember when their Howie led front office management wheeled and dealt to acquire extra 1st round picks that led to stud DT Jalen Carter ..?
- Why cant we have a stellar front office of our own that can do so as well..?

- And what was the key to those 2 terrible Mahomes SB performances ? TRENCH WARS .!! ..
-
when Mahomes has performed badly, it's clearly been behind very suspect OL unit that has harassed and drilled him unmercifullly silly !
- Their OTs have been absolutely hideous in 2024thus the OG to LT change, and up to SB, Chiefs " hid" it effectively. ** Philly flat exposed and exploited it !

As a closing thought I thought it was one of the least competitive SB’s since Dallas 52 Buffalo 17 . Chiefs overload exposure despise Eagles and to cap it off the halftime show resembled a funeral procession . Other than that ….

This Super Bowl was a lot like the Chiefs/Buccaneers one. The Bucs' D-line dominated the Chiefs' O-line, and that was the major difference. The same thing happened on Sunday. Mahommes is a great quarterback, but even he can't do well when linemen are constantly in his face.

Chris Simms said it well yesterday: this was like one of those SuperBowls we got used to in the 80s, where this AFC team with a great QB (Elway, Marino, etc) would drag their average team single handedly to a SuperBowl, only to get obliterated by an NFC team that had a good-not-great QB but an absolutely loaded team.

Simms, Hostetter, Rypien, even Aikman weren't Elway or Marino. They were real good, but they couldn't single handedly take so so teams to the SB like Elway and Marino did. Didn't matter though...because they were surrounded by all stars.

Hurts is very good... the team is outstanding though. Pretty much unanimously considered the best roster in the post cap era. A team of just their 2nd stringers woulda gone 9-8 and competed for a wildcard. Crazy

What really helped the Eagles was hitting on Hurts and able to get value for trading away Wentz. They took a season to reset their books and clear out cap space. They smartly used their extra picks and got more with future trades. The Jones family is unwilling to have a reset season and don’t want to affect their cap situation.

Dak struggled badly against this same defensive scheme under Fangio with the 49ers. All we heard how bad a qb Dak is, who Mahomes looked no better.

This debate is better saved for the future, like if Dak can ever manage to get out of the wildcard round, something we all know will never happen. So let's pick on a 3 time champion who has played in 5 straight AFCCG's instead..

Mahomes had a bad game, sure, but name 1 Cowboys fan on the planet who wouldn't trade Dak for Mahomes. I would do it without blinking an eye.
Ripping on Mahomes is so stupid! Mahomes played poorly, but every QB plays poorly when they have no time to pass!!!
Mahomes has played exceptional in the playoffs in order to play in 5 Superbowls in 7 years.

We have Dak who may never win a divisional round playoff game.

Now we are comparing Mahomes to Dak!
LOL!

I guess I would bang Taylor if she begged me to.

Wouldn't you?

The halftime show had double the viewers than the game. That tells you just how interested nfl fans werent

My one big thought is GMs matter. Philly is stacked. Hit on draft choices and free agents and coaching. Our GM is playing using a checkboard that was built in 1995. Their GM is playing 3 dimensional chess. GMs matter.
That’s what stood out to me too.

The Eagles were already a good team.

But the additions they made last year were just incredible.

Changed out both coordinators.

Had a great draft.

And had hit after hit after hit in free agency and trades.

An incredible accomplishment worthy of praise.

No qb without an OL..without legit OTS, to help him is gonna look better...

just like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tom brady super bowl vs Mahomes...no OTs, no OL , in the chiefs backfield all game long creating havoc leading to sacks , pressures , turnovers...

Eagles.were not always hitting on draft picks...OT Andre Dillard and WR Jaylen Reagor were 1st round busts...but philly kept pecking at personnel moves, in all three phases..draft, trades, free agency..dealing n wheeling to get future 1st round picks...while we seem content with just moving back to acquire mid round picks.

No, they definitely missed. Sometimes big.

But unlike the Joneses, they realized their mistakes and acted quickly to correct them.

Jerry and Stephen Jones double down on their mistakes, and waste decades trying to prove themselves right.

KC was dominated on both side of the line of scrimmage. Philly defense was able to get pressure and sacks using 4 man front, never blitzed one yet was constantly in the face of Mahomes. Offensively KC was able to contain Barkley but Hurts was able to come up with some big runs and hit some big passes. All in all Philly on this day played great and KC didn't. I know Reid has caught heat for lack of adjustment but hard to adjust when you are getting beat at the line of scrimmage

OL, especially their tackles were their weakness throughout the season. I thought they could of tried to run the football more or perhaps use a short passing game to methodically move the football.

DC's have adjusted to this modern passing game as we now are seeing a return of the running game. Shell coverage, keep everything in front of you and force a team to sustain long drives while tighten up in the red zone. When a team is able to hold up against the run and generate a rush without the blitz, it is difficult for any QB to be successful, including Mahomes. I am glad, the Cowboys appear finally ready to fix their run game schematically for this new hires.

You are right, but give Dak the Eagles' weapons and support from the Eagles' defense and he wins that game last night too.

Not taking anything away from Hurts, he played a more than solid game, but the depth of Philly's roster top to bottom is what I noticed the most.
Hurts had a couple of key runs that Dak could never do anymore.

I learned that Dallas isn't the only team that uses garbage points...

In literally the last 3 minutes for the game for the Chiefs, the chiefs scored 16 points and took the score to 40-20 instead of 40-6. Heck, I didn't even notice when Pickett came into the game.

Only if I could watch TV and eat a sandwich while I did it
