He missed 5 kicks last year. He’s not ideal but he can make clutch kicks. This is ridiculous we are in this position year after year.
Rumor was he had a degenerative issue in his knee that required some comprehensive babysitting throughout the season and for games. Seemed fairly clear he was done when this was discussed months ago!

Liked what i saw on Overshown and Vaughn....the two i really believe can make the step into the NFL this year. Bass looked great out there for his first time. Better than some of the 2nd team guys. He may also make an impact if someone goes down.

Those who still think Vaughn is a gadget type player or a feel good story only should have seen for themselves he is the real deal and are just talking out of the wrong end. He looked like the best back out there on the field. I can see MM using him out in space to get him the ball but PS is not the time to show everything. He is a combination of Sproles and BSanders.
I mentioned this in the game day thread. I swear, I watched a lot of Emmitt and Barry Sanders back in the day, and he reminded me of Barry Sanders. Not saying he's Barry Sander's but his cuts and agility and burst reminded me of Barry. You have to give this kid reps, just let him loose. Even Barry was stopped behind the line a million times, but when he found a seem, look out.

I’m not sure why they went out and got Schoonmaker. Fergs is fully capable of being the #1 TE. The kid is pretty darn good and feisty.

Totally agree about the LB’s. They looked really good. Clark looked night and day from last season. Love this!

As usual the Oline is scary.

Vaughan will be playing a lot. He’s too explosive to not get him on the field. His size is actually a gift. Most defenders hate going that low to tackle.

They have to bring in Gould at kicker. He’s the most consistent one out there currently.
Aside from not getting an offensive lineman in the 2nd round, I think Schoonmaker is a good add because he’s a good blocker and that allows you more flex at the position. Because your #1 and #2 TEs are both good blockers, it frees you to carry He see shot and Stephens as redzone targets if you desire

Any differences in offense from Moore to MM?
It's preseason so we can't look too much into it, but it seems the running backs will be more involved as pass catchers. RB's had ten receptions last night. Of course that could also have been a result of all the pressure Rush and Grier were under. Interior o-line depth is scary bad, in a bad way.

I believe they drafted and traded for another. Think biggest issue is that he cannot kickoff which makes it difficult to carry multiple kickers
Actually if you have a good kickoff return team and a kicker who kicks the ball just short of the goal line you have a good opportunity to pin the other team inside the 20 yard line. Let’s see Bones and his Kickoff team earn their money. Most teams don’t want to return kickoffs. They want the ball at the 25 yard line. The don’t want to take the chance of a holding penalty either.

I was not happy we drafted a TE in the 2nd rd. I felt that we hd seen more than enough from both Ferguson and Hendershot last year to have faith that they could take over the TE position. That is why you draft kids....... we could have used that 2nd somewhere else. I felt Ferguson showed again yesterday... he is going to be fine.

I didn’t like the Schoon pick too, just a little high on what the media scouts we’re projecting, but he does have elite traits that Ferguson just doesn’t possess, we need to be a little patient as he is just returning from injury. As for Risner, Bronco fans said he was terrible, not sure he is the answer
what "Elite," traits does Schoonmaker have that Ferguson doesnt?

I didn't get to watch much so I went back and saw highlights but I wouldn't expect to see much in the first pre season.

It will be in the regular season - when the change from what Moore's approach to handling the offense each game - to how McCarthy goes about going against each opponent (in weekly collaboration with new OC Schottenheimer).

Much rather give the ball at the 25, then to give a team to chance a long return

It’s funny as I am reading the board and watching YouTube videos of Cowboys stock up/down fans still have agendas. Don’t get me wrong, I like what I saw from Duece but he played against Jacksonville’s scrubs. Let’s see what he does against the second team guys against Seattle next week. Ferguson is another guy getting hype. Played well yesterday fans are saying he is a tight end 1 or now better then Shultz ever was. Let’s see Ferguson play with the first team offense before we declare he is the next Kelce.
On the negative side I see everyone jumping on the kicker because he missed the extra point. Do fans realize he missed the kick because of a bad hold? People just want to complain about the Cowboys not bringing in a proven guy so no matter what the kicker does it’s not good enough. The Michigan rookies fit the agenda argument to a tee. Fans that don’t like the picks cherry pick certain plays. Mazi was outstanding against the first team of Jacksonville but wore down as the game went on. There is a reason why Overshown and Clark were freed up early in the game. Some yahoo cherry picked the late 3rd quarter quarterback sneak to call him a scrub. Schoonmaker is being criticized because he was the third string tight end after he just started practicing Monday. He made two devastating blocks that freed up Duece. I see the agenda guys think a 6th round tight end could that. It’s actually easier to catch the football than block. Look at John Stephens, if he was Schoon I guess then the second round pick would be worth it.

Nice to hear so many good things bout Clark. His scouting report made it feel like he was going to have a learning curve in the NFL. Very excited about Overshown though, looks like we have the potential for another underrated small guy.

Reminds me of "90 '91 with a ton of young talent ready to make their mark. Drafting has improved in the past 5 seasons.

Bull crap to the Jaguars, it's one thing to play your 1s it's another to blitz them in game 1.

Early for evaluations, coaches are looking for certain things not necessarily winning the play.
The announcers were talking about Mike McCarthy being extremely excited about this draft. I don’t know if they were just doing a TV thing or they really meant Big Mac felt it was one of his best talent drafts. I don’t want to jump the gun, because I am the first one to homer out about rookies but I am excited. Does feel like some of the early 70s, early 90s and early 00’s drafts when we were finding talent all over and in late rounds.
