Tiger Woods "presser" is ridiculous

The way some of you guys hang on to athletes...

Pull your skirts down ladies.

This.

When I have children, one of the first lessons I will impart to them is celebrities are not role models. Examine their lives critically before you decide they're worthy of emulation.

This.

When I have kids, I will do the same exact thing.

Honestly, I think the entity that may have been hurt the worst is "golf".

I just don't think many young people are totally bummed out that Tiger Woods cheated on his wife.

The main reason a celebrity's endorsement deals take a hit is because "mock outrage" from adults, there is no way kids are sending angry emails and picketing business.

Young people of today would probably be surprised that an athlete isn't cheating.

Cheated on his wife, wasnt the first, wont be the last. Everybody needs to just move on. I love the sponsers who are backing away. Without Tiger golf is a non news item and few watch, so there isnt much to sponsor.

How many African Americans are avid golf fans pre-Tiger versus now? How many young African Americans took up golf because of Tiger? Did you know several of the most prestigious country clubs in America did not allow African American membership until he actually burst onto the scene and they wanted him to play their courses?

I'm sorry, but Tiger Woods has had a huge impact. You don't get gigantic endorsement deals by being someone who does not stir the drink.

I don't doubt Tiger Woods has affected the lives of people, but that wasn't really my point.

I'm not arguing that celebrities don't influence the lives of people. I'm debating whether or not they should have such influence solely because they're celebrities.

I share Troy Aikman's sentiments on this issue of celebrity role models.

surely people didn't see him and think oh he's not white and neither am i. maybe i should take up golf since he's playing it.
also i refuse to believe that golf clubs, what ten years ago?, could get away with being openly racist.

i'm not saying tiger hasn't had an impact on some level but i'd certainly like to think that people aren't as sheeplike and your country as backward as you make out with that comment.

Tiger hasn't affected people's lives. No one betters themselves by picking up a golf club.

If you go back and look, you will see that the poster you responded to by saying "this" was asking about the influence he has had.

I too share the notion that athletes are not necessarily role models. I do not agree with the notion that Tiger Woods has had little impact other than winning golf.

I bet Viagara has called his agent or at least thought aboot it...:laugh2:

All of this is a non issue the next Major golf tournament he dominates. The sponsors will come running back. The media will come running back. The fans will come running back.

He is the most compelling story and athlete in the sport.

Kobe issued an apology. Whenever one of the most recognizable athletes does something like this, they apologize. I'm not saying he had to, but its common practice. Tiger is/was the most recognizable athletes in the world and he wanted the world to know he was sorry.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that I'm sorry, too... :D

He has to follow Kobe's lead? Ridiculous. Charlie Sheen has had just as many dalliances with women (not to mention scrapes with the law), but I don't remember any public mea culpas from him.

I just talked to Charlie, he said he was sorry too...

Absofrickinglutely he is. Far more people watch primetime programs like "Two and a Half Men"

That's what he's sorry about... he said he really, really needed the money, that was the only excuse he has...

Oh, he's sorry about those Hanes commercials, too... said Jordan never did give back his cell phone... and he wanted me to let everybody know that he really doesn't like Thai barbeque...

Why? He comes from a famous acting family and has been in the public eye for like 20+ years.

First you said "recognizable," and then you switched to "influential." Please make up your mind. BTW, Sheen has done PSAs for the Wounded Warrior Project and colon cancer screening, so let's stop pretending that a banger like Kobe has a monopoly on virtue.

I did first say recognizable. I ALSO said influential. And you refuted both of this statements;

and then I came back and said;

I was talking about both the whole time. Your the one that needs to learn how to follow the conversation.

Generally, I don't indulge simpletons who need 24 hours to come up with a response. Sorry.
