The O-line hasn't played consistently well all season. They've had drives where they looked dominant but they've also been dominated a lot. I don't know what the issue is exactly. We're missing Leary and Martin has been banged up. Maybe it will get better. We'll see. But we need the best O-line in football if we want to have a chance.
Our offensive strategy has been different and it hasn't been that great. We haven't been running it as much as we have, and we've been relying on a lot of dink and dunk passes. This wasn't so bad with Romo because he go pick a defense apart when they needed him to (see final drive of Giants game), but this safe strategy keeps us from blowing teams out (like New England does).
We need to establish a running game. Throwing to Dunbar out wide does not count as a running game. It just hasn't been there. It comes in spurts. Randle starts games well but doesn't do much of anything after the first quarter. McFadden usually has one decent drive after the defense is already worn out. We don't have a RB that consistently gashes the defense and gets better as the game goes on. Randle had 85 yards on his first 3 carries and 2 yards on his next 11.
The secondary looked great the first few games but it hadn't really been tested. Julio tore us apart. We won't face another Julio this season but we do have Gronk and Jimmy Graham coming to town soon.
Sean Lee is really the heart of the defense. If he goes down, we fall apart. Hopefully he stays healthy and Rolando can take some pressure off of him.
The D-line got destroyed today but it's hard to blame them considering almost everyone was out. Let's hope Hardy is how he was in Carolina and that Gregory is the prodigy he appeared to be. Mincey is a solid player but not a star, Lawrence is young and still hasn't proven himself yet, T. Crawford is good but no Aaron Donald. Let's see how good this D-line is when everyone is healthy.
This season (even when Romo comes back) really rests on how good our O-line and D-line can be. Both looked awful today. D-line had their excuse but O-line didn't. It's gonna be a tough 7 games before Romo comes back. We need 3-4 wins if we want to still have a shot at winning the division. A Brees-less Saints and Bucs games should be winnable.
