TJ Watt

It's so funny to me that we don't want Watt but won't get rid of Gregory lol. 252 pound guy vs 235 pounds.
What's even funnier is people assuming most "3-4" players dont spend a majority of downs in 4 man Nickle and Dime packages in the NFL. Its commonplace now for 3-4 teams to go into a 4-2 or 4-1 alignment in subs as opposed to a 3 man line like we used in the 3-4

It's all good. I want to watch a little more of his film to see the 3 pt stance rushes. If they are anything like his standup rushes I'm drafting him at 28. I was very impressed with his play vs the run

I hope that they get Watt. I think there is a good chance that he becomes a great player. He looks like he at least will be a good player. I think that he is worth it with their 1st pick. It would be awesome if they could trade back a little bit into the low 30s and get Watt and an extra pick.
That is what I was thinking. Trade back and pick up maybe an extra third. Use it to pick up maybe Rivers if he last that long.

I'm just very concerned with how high cut he is... and the fact he had 2 major knee injuries plays right into those concerns.

He may have tested well athletically, but the lower half functional strength and stiffness is worrisome on tape. I could see him being a solid 3-4 OLB, but we'd be drafting him to be that war daddy RE... something I highly doubt he ever delivers on.

I just see enough red flags that make me hesitant, and I don't believe the upside is enough to justify the risk. Let someone else figure it out.

I'll continue asking this. What was so great about Gregory coming out that people said he was a top 10 guy? Same skinny lower body, same stiffness. Only Watts upper body is much better and hand usage kills Gregory. Yet he was jerrys aar daddy. I don't get it

Gregory was on a different level in terms of his ability to capture the edge. Even though their testing numbers may be similar, anyone who watched Gregory play at Nebraska knows he was a special twitchy athlete off the edge.

And weight has relatively little to do with functional strength.

They could trade back and get Watt, or Kevin King, or C. Awuzie, or A. Jackson.

I don't agree at all. I wasn't impressed by Gregory's tape really. People can give him the ankle excuse but he played enough games to not finish his rookie year with zero sacks. It's laughable to think Watt would have a doughnut his rookie year based on hand usage alone.

Apparently, that "different level" was a lower one. Gregory never put up single season sack numbers like Watt just did. In his first year as the starter.

Yeah, who cares about "testing numbers" when we have "opinion"?

Yet another poor attempt to dismiss facts. Give up while you're behind. You're just digging the hole deeper.

Im right there with you.

He doesn't look like a fit for the Cowboys.

We've met the most with Watt, Takk and Obi. I think Watt is clearly BPA in that situation so, with the 28th pick............

The fact that 2016 was his first full year starting and he put up those numbers is pretty incredible.

The knee thing kinda bugs me, but i'm more confident in Watt being a centerpiece of our DL for the next 10 years than any other DL that will be there. I wasn't even really a fan of him at first, but he's won me over.

He's pretty much my #1 at 28 right now (if we're talking about guys realistically there). I'm hoping he doesn't get overdrafted because of his ability to play a number of positions.

I'd be happy with the pick. I do think that he would get some good coaching from a brother that's already done it.

Sources Tell Us
"He looked a lot stronger and a lot more confident on tape this year. He needs to get bigger, but he's already a strong guy. I can see him standing or playing base end for a 4-3 team. He's going to keep getting better." -- Midwest area scout for AFC team

NFL Comparison
Paul Kruger

Bottom Line
A long-limbed effort rusher who posted impressive numbers against the run and pass in just one year as a starter. He is a tireless worker who pursues from snap to whistle and his brother, J.J., will be a tremendous resource for technique and pass-rush plan. While he is unlikely to win a race to the edge, he's a plus run defender who can get to the quarterback with plus hand work and relentless effort.

Thanks for summing up my own thoughts better than I could, I'm right there with you!
