Stephen Jackson's numbers from yesterday: 18 for 58, longest 13.
Julius Jones: 16 for 66, longest 21.

Where are the draft comparisons today? :D

Yeah, Jackson's the elite back, but where's the elite performance?

I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'...

yeah, but Jackson had a monster year last year, so if he has a mediocre game its easier to overlook.

This is to all the people who claim that the "combo" of Julius and Barber works only because of Julius, and that Barber can't carry the load, and that we're better off with Julius starting and Barber getting a few touches in the "right situation".

Please, pay attention.

You'll notice who was in the game at the end of the game. You'll notice who was sparking the offense. You'll notice who was running over dudes when we needed the tough yards.

You'll also notice who was juking his way into defenders. Who was going down at first contact. Who was running the ball out of bounds to stop the clock, when we wanted to eat up the time.

Barber should be the starter, stop apologizing for Julius, he should be the one spotting Barber, not the other way around. The only time he sparkles is when there's no one in his way and he can outrun guys.

Barber can't carry the load. Jones is a necessary evil. To make Barber the full time back would just limit his effectiveness. Stop trying to shoot the Cowboys in the foot. Selfish greed is very unbecoming.

As they say, don't fix what isn't broken.

That's an eloquent double negative you have there.

With all due respect, If my residency training at the Foreign Service linguistics center does not fail me, that was a redundancy.

Yes, splittin' hairs, but I like my forum brothers to speak and write in proficient English instead of what passes for English these days in Farmers Branch and the rest of the nation.:)

JJ running out of bounds on that play in the fourth quarter was an absolute embarrassment. He should have been benched right there. Hell, he should have been cut right after that. That was SUCH a stupid play.

haha. only in la-la-land can someone compare a guy who doubled another players output and hold them to the same standard when they have a bad game. What people are saying about Julius is not based off 1 game. More like a couple seasons worth a games where he played like he did yesterday.

Yeah, it was a redundancy... but if you read it the way it was written, it has the same effect of a double negative.

In other words, your typical redundancy doesn't necessarily change the meaning of the sentence. But this redundancy changes a negative into a positive. If JJ's lack of performance were set to demise, I would expect him to be a better performer. ;)

JJ is just not what we thought he was going to be after his great rookie showing.

I see absolutely no change from last year to this year with his style, it's kinda hambrick like, fall down at first contact. The robot excuse kinda went out the window after watching an extension of last years style last night.

I'm not calling for Barber to start, I love the role he plays in the offense, but I do think we need to consider our options this next offseason. Draft or Free agency.

this thread would be entirely different if the Giants were able to tackle...or pursue on his TD

I also object to the notion that this RB rotation isn't broken.

It most certainly IS broken. About 30% of Jones' carries are simply wastes, as he runs right up the backs of his offensive linemen.

And as we all know, since RBs generally tend to get better the more carries they get, not giving the better back more carries is a double whammy.

Barber fights hard so that he's not wasting nearly as many carries as Jones does. Plus, more carries to Barber lets him get in a better rhythm and excel even more.

Barber should be gettin 20 carries per game.

Jones should get 5-8.

That's a rotation that's not broken.

I don't dislike Julius Jones at all. I suspect that some fans do. From where I sit, good kid with some talent. I can't knock him the way many do.

Marion Barber however, is exactly the kind of RB I love. He fights for every single yard and punishes would be tacklers. Last night on three occasions he had me out of my seat screaming. One was the TD, the other 2 were runs where he punctuated the end of the run by knocking a Giants defender backwards.

Julius is flashy. When he breaks one you just drop your jaw in amazement at the gracefulness. The problem for me is, I have never much cared for runners who were just flashy. It is exactly why I can't stand Barry Sanders as a RB. It doesn't seem personal enough to him. Barber wants that final yard even if he already has the first down.

I like the 2 back attack we use, but I personally would have no issue whatsoever with the opportunities being tilted the other way or with Barber being the guy.

It's nothing at all against Julius Jones. Great kid and I'm proud he's a Cowboy. I just like the warrior who wears #24. Best dreadlocks on the planet. Basically there's nothing about the kid that I don't love. He wants it. Every time, and he will make you pay for trying to take it away from him.

Good post. I just want to see more of him, i dont know why people get so upset when we call for "more barber". How can you not love watching him play. He continually amazes me, and that is why i watch football games, to watch players like him.

I think the problem is real simple. Troy Hambrick.

Filling in for Emmitt he averaged over 5 yards per carry and people felt it meant he should be the feature back. So Emmitt gets the gate, Hambrick becomes the guy and with teams keying on him he was horrid.

I just don't see how it's at all analogous to Marion Barber though. I really don't. His success is predicated on how he runs, not that he's filling in.

If anything, this is more proof as to why Barber should get his chance at being a feature back now, when we can still go back to Julius, rather than waiting till we don't have an option.

At this rate, we may never get to see what Marion has, especially if we have a shot at McFadden or if Jerry goes after some other RB in the first round. We could potentially save millions if we've already got a guy that can carry the load on the roster rather than trying to sign RB drafted early in the 1st.
