They need to double the salary cap so Jerry can have room to pay his players. It's a conspiracy.

In all serious though it is getting a bit out of hand. You drafted a good QB, you get to pay him about 60 million of the cap which is about 23%, you draft a good WR? that's another 12%, you draft one of the best defensive players like Parsons? Another 13%. That's nearly 50% of your salary cap on 3 players as your reward for drafting well.

What amazes me is Jerry is a brilliant businessman. Could sell sand in the desert. But when it comes to strategic cap management, he and his #1 son are clearly not good at strategic cap management that leads to playoff wins.
Is he? Or did he just get lucky with oil speculation, and then successfully marketed the biggest name in sports in the US, which was the case before he bought the team. The team maintained that notoriety thanks to the success of Jimmy’s teams and then they reminded relevant thanks to the internet and the accessibility of modern media.

Umm they did change their perspective. they caved to Dak last time. That is how he got top dollar, a shorter deal and a no trade clause.

they did not run teh same line with Diggs recent deal so there is reason to believe that Dak is being handled differently from the rest of the roster which he should be.

I am 100% behind taking a hard line with Prescott.

It's Stephen running the show, and the results aren't the best.

They drag on most players, until they hold out or hit free agency(Cooper), and the player still gets what they wanted.
yep. it has actually gotten worse as Cap Boy has taken over. I'd prefer ol gamblin' Jerry.

Bob if it’s you would you sign now or wait and see the market as price increases every year, any agent worth his salt isn’t agreeing to anything less that resetting the market.
If I was a GM, I would have a decisive strategic plan in place BEFORE free agency and the draft. That plan would absolutely start with who I want on the team and what I would be willing to pay for any player on this team or any free agent available.

We already know what the market is for the top WRs, QBs and defensive stars are. There is zero mystery. Waiting to sign a guy you know you want to keep is foolish. Period. If you don’t want a player, seek a trade and make some other bold moves to make your team better. This “hedging strategy” is stupid. How do I know that? Look at the great GMs who don’t do that.

Btw, if I was GM, I would not pay $30 mil a year for a WR with all the gaping holes this team has. Lamb has earned that market rate and I really like him aas a player. But I would seek to trade him while his value is top of the market. I might also consider that with Parsons too. And see if Dak was open to a trade to Denver, the raiders or the saints who all need a QB.

Why would I do that? Signing those guys won’t make us immediate contenders anyway. This team has done almost nothing in the playoffs with those guys. I would love to see a complete rebuild including hiring a young, strong and talented head coach too.

None of those things will happen though as long as Jerry is alive.

Wait until Jerry is no longer here. He is terrible as a GM, but players loved him and he loved the big splashes. Whether they were warranted is another question. But players like Jerry. They are going to hate Stephen. If you think it can't get worse...just wait.

Who is to say they did not have a plan? I am sure that you have heard the cliches about all plans being good until first contact with the enemy.

And given the top WR in the market has yet to sign the WR market is not set. Frankly I do not see any sense in your logic. We shouldn't pay elite players unless we are contenders?

I would think keeping as much talent as possible should be the goal.

As new contracts for Lamb, Parsons and probably Dak lay ahead, this front office never seems to learn from their past mistakes. Delaying signing guys like Lamb and Parsons costs more in the long run. Unless you plan on trading them for picks, which we all know they don’t.

Their inaction with these players is just stupid. In the modern cap era, waiting and doing nothing is almost always a stupid move.

If the Cowboys don’t want to pay Cedee Lamb what he deserves, and that will be - at minimum - $30 mil a year right now, then trade him while his value is high. He isn’t going to get cheaper. Same with Parsons. He’s going to get more expensive, not less. Waiting is losing. With Dak, they waited two years in signing him, then caved for more money than they would have paid originally.

This is not “3 dimensional chess”. This is cap stupidity. Over and over.

Hit the nail on the head. I wish someone would tack this to Jerry’s forehead!!!

Sure keeping talent is good as long as that talent is giving you playoff success.

And…What great strategic plan have the Jones boys followed in the past that has produced great playoff results? What roster plan have they followed besides just hoping the draft works out and to pay a few “stars” regardless of results?

Hey I would be willing to be patient if I had not seen this movie and 27 other sequels afterward. Honestly, I do not believe this front office has a clue on how to build a post-cap roster that is capable of winning multiple playoff games.

Asking this fan base to be patient with this front office is not fair in my opinion. The Jerry-Stephen front office combo has had more chances than any front office in pro football history to show us more than an occasional wild card win and they just can’t do it.

So yeah, until proven otherwise, these guys don‘t know how to get it done in the cap era. I’ll believe it when it happens.

I don't know what their strategic plan actually is/was. I do think that they have been making changes every year and it as not been a static situation. This offseason is much different than really any offseason we have ever had. Dumping Prescott would be extremely business not as usual.

Of course there is no reason to have faith in the front office after the eggs they have laid but different action do result in different outcomes.

I disagree. It makes clear that a player like Lamb, who led the league in receptions last year is not going to go down in value. The market has already been set. DaVante Adams got $28 mil year last year so there is no way Lamb will get even that- he will get more.

It makes zero sense to not sign a guy you want long term unless you just don’t want to pay a WR that much. Btw, I’m not that big on paying any WR that much but Jerry loves his WRs so I will be shocked if he doesn’t sign Lamb. But waiting means it will cost more.
The only reason for waiting or letting it play out is to try and influence public perception.

I believe they waited for two years with Prescott hoping we’d have more success in playoffs before caving in.

This is a pattern Jethro has been in. Like he’s waiting for more team success to justify caving in.

No doubt . Spot on as usual Bob. But maybe this is as good as it gets or we can hope with our dysfunctional ownership being an early exit playoff team .

It’s really amazing they’re able to put together a competitive team at all. They probably pinch themselves just winning division and making the playoffs. They always look like they’re very pleased with themselves. Lol

In regards to CD it means they don't really want him at that value. They would prefer to pay him his 5th year option, then potentially tag him.

Only option he has is to hold out or play out his 5th season.

Why extend CD to a huge contract with no QB in place for 2025?
