Because in the grand scheme taking on the 30 other owners and the commish could have been more costly than the penalties.

Not to mention it has nothing at all to do with this ruling
Looks to me the biggest part of this ruling is about the process laid out under the CBA
The CBA is the groundwork of the relationship between players and owners not owners and the league
That's not to say they couldn't have went to court, just simply that this ruling has nothing to do with the relationship between teams and the league itself

And has a Super Bowl ring to show for it.........

If your not cheating...your not trying!!! Open season on cheating has now been declared....Anyway...anyhow to get the prize is now acceptable....as long as you don't get caught.

The problem is that the NFL couldn't prove the cheating. Even in a private entity like the NFL, you still have to have some burden of proof to act as you act. Further, the judge appears to have used the NFLs previous stance on situations like this against them, citing the Vikes/Panthers ball heating incident.

Why didn't the Commanders and Cowboys go this route in dealing with Goddellwhen dealing with the bogus cap penalties?

Goddell is such a joke. Wonder how much **** he has to suck to keep his job.

Most owners don't want to sue themselves.

The funny thing is, people get convicted of crimes with circumstantial evidence all the time. Brady was clearly hiding something by destroying his phone. This judge is without question bias.

I don't understand why anyone would really be too surprised by this. People should have pretty much expected that by the end of this that Brady would get off completely for his cheating. They were never really going to let the Golden Boy go down for any amount of time for cheating.

it would be interesting to see how many cases this judge has had involving unions and how many he ruled in favor of the unions.

Who is "they"? Brady is the golden boy to the federal judge here?

The NFL wanted him suspended.

I wouldn't hand over my cell phone to my boss either. This was a bunch of crap from the start with stupid rules about air in footballs.

LOL. The Pats get away with everything.

Spygate happens. The NFL burns the evidence like the cheating never happened.

Deflategate happens. There's no "clear" evidence of that Brady cheating and that he had anything to do with deflating the balls a judge rules <roll my eyes> or something like that even though arbitration shows that it is entirely probable he did.

I've never seen such arbitrary BS when it comes to one organization.

But that's not right. People convicted on circumstantial evidence probably shouldn't have been. The judge was right in his ruling. You can't assume he cheated just because he destroyed a phone. Further, as noted earlier, the judge also pointed out that the league didn't follow on precedent in matters like this. The league warned the Vikes and Panthers when they were tampering with balls during a game last year. You can't then turn around and throw this punishment at the Pats and Brady and expect it would hold up.

I wonder how players truly feel about this. They know he did it, too.

I bet most don't give a **** because things like this are more rampant than people want to believe.

LOL. A league run arbitration. You know, the organization who wanted him suspended to begin with. That's the other part of the problem here. You can't have the league be the prosecutor, investigator, punisher and then arbitrator. They continue to act like that and they'll keep getting slapped down in court.

Anyone.

Goodell wanted him suspended.

I'm guessing the NFLPA certainly weren't okay with it.

The Patriots and the NFLPA were never going to allow their Golden Boy to take responsibility for his actions.

lol....right.

Brady cheats, gets punished to harshly I guess for the cheaters of the world, but Goodell is the one who needs real integrity and a true sense of fair play.

Recall Goodell didn't have evidence to prove his case but he was demanding a confession from Brady during the appeal. When dealing with a "more likely than not" standard, the possibility that the person is innocent is part of the equation, and Goodell failed to acknowledge it. It wasn't really an arbitration, it was an inquisition - implement the penalty and demand a confession to stop the pain.

They cared enough to complain about it in the first place.

This ruling does not make me happy or angry. Since they are going to track the PSI this year I'm waiting for the numbers when the weather turns cold before I form any conclusions.
